Science SARU Opts for a Vibrant ‘90s Look for ‘THE GHOST IN THE SHELL’ Anime

Summary

  • Science SARU has revealed a new teaser for THE GHOST IN THE SHELL
  • The artistic style adopts a more vibrant and nostalgic look, departing from gritty look of Stand Alone Complex
  • The anime is slated for a July 2026 release

Science SARU has unveiled a new promotional teaser video for THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, offering a deeper look into the studio’s reinterpretation of Masamune Shirow’s iconic cyberpunk classic.

Released during AnimeJapan 2026, the 43-second teaser offers the most substantial look yet at the series’ kinetic animation and vivid ’90s-inspired color palette. The clip highlights a more expressive and diverse cast of Public Security Section 9 members, including a first look at the AI-equipped “Fuchikoma” think tanks in motion — a notable departure from the Tachikomas seen in previous adaptations like Stand Alone Complex.

Known for producing DAN DA DAN, the studio is lauded for its incredibly experimental, high-quality animation. For THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, it’s evident that the Science SARU is taking the more playful yet nostalgic approach to the art style — deviating from the dark and gritty look of Stand Alone Complex and re-establishing a more neon-tinted ’90s look that’s reminiscent of shojo classics like Sailor Moon and Revolutionary Girl Utena.

THE GHOST IN THE SHELL is scheduled to premiere in July 2026.
