After whipping it, dealing with their uncontrollable urges, and undergoing multiple costume changes, DEVO closed out their 2026 Coachella set with a pointed rendition of “Freedom of Choice.” Politically charged and energetically performed, it was a strong ending to a strong set from the energy dome-wearing icons.
After getting the crowd to clap along to an ominous beat, a sardonic version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” played over the loud speaker, setting the tone for their final song. Soon enough, the band launched into the opening power chords of “Freedom of Choice” as a video of a tattered American flag appeared behind them. Once the tune wrapped up, founding member Gerald Casale left the crowd with a final message: “Freedom of choice — use it or lose it. It’s going fast.”
All told, it was a very DEVO performance, meaning it was a little silly, a little charged, and fun as all hell. Check out the full setlist below.
DEVO took to the Mojave stage on day one (April 10th) of Coachella at 6:45 p.m. Check back in throughout the weekend for more of our Coachella 2026 coverage.
