Netflix Announces ‘LEGO One Piece’ Animated Special

Netflix Announces 'LEGO One Piece' Animated Special

Summary

  • Netflix expands its One Piece universe with a two-part LEGO animated special arriving in September 2026
  • The project is a collaboration between The LEGO Group, Shueisha, Tomorrow Studios, and Vancouver-based Atomic Cartoons
  • Narrated by Usopp, the special serves as a comedic retelling of the Straw Hat crew’s journey through the East Blue and Grand Line

Netflix and The LEGO Group have officially announced LEGO One Piece, an upcoming two-part animated special set to debut globally on the streaming platform. Serving as a creative bridge between the recently concluded live-action Season 2 and the upcoming Season 3, the special reimagines the high-seas adventure using the signature comedy and aesthetic of the LEGO animation style.

The special is produced in partnership with Japanese publisher Shueisha and Tomorrow Studios, with animation duties handled by Atomic Cartoons. Tom Hyndman, recognized for his work on Harley Quinn, serves as showrunner and writer. The narrative utilizes Usopp as an “unreliable narrator,” framing the retelling of Seasons 1 and 2 as exaggerated tales shared with the crew’s newest recruit, Tony Tony Chopper. This format allows the production to condense major story arcs from the East Blue and Grand Line into a family-friendly, high-stakes comedy.

Beyond the screen, the collaboration includes a major physical component with six new LEGO One Piece sets inspired by Season 2. Highlights of the toy lineup include a 1,705-piece Garp’s Marine Battleship, a Battle at Drum Castle set, and a specialized Tony Tony Chopper build. The announcement reinforces Netflix’s broader strategy to establish One Piece as a multi-format franchise, coinciding with the reveal of a new anime adaptation from WIT Studio and the confirmation of “The Battle of Alabasta” for the live-action series’ third season.

LEGO One Piece is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Netflix on September 29, 2026.
