Jaguar Land Rover is officially shifting gears with the reveal of the Range Rover GT prototype. Positioned as a sport-utility sedan, this new flagship marks a significant departure from the brand’s historical SUV roots. The vehicle utilizes a fastback silhouette and a noticeably lower ride height to merge the commanding presence of a traditional Range Rover with the sleek proportions of a grand tourer. Designed to deliver peerless long-haul comfort and effortless performance, the GT represents a new expression for the British marque. The prototype is currently undergoing global testing while wrapped in a bespoke topographic camouflage inspired by the landscape surrounding the automaker’s design headquarters in Gaydon.
Underneath its sweeping roofline, the Range Rover GT serves as the debut model for the brand’s new Electric Modular Architecture. The vehicle will initially launch as a battery-electric offering with an 800-volt charging system and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration. This setup guarantees the all-terrain capability consistent with the company’s reputation while pushing into a completely new aerodynamic space. Flexibility is built into the platform to accommodate hybrid variants later in the production lifecycle. Manufacturing will take place in Halewood, cementing a new era of electrification for the storied lineage.
Inside the cabin, designers adopted a strictly reductive approach to create a sanctuary of quiet modernity. Genuine leather and wood have been replaced by cutting-edge sustainable materials like Kvadrat wool blends and pliable synthetic textiles. The dashboard features a clean horizontal graphic anchored by a concealed air vent that spans the entire width of the interior. A sleek single-screen interface and a smaller ovoid steering wheel replace the usual clutter of physical buttons. Tech integration remains subtle, with speakers hidden behind woven fabric and a unique translucent plastic covering dual wireless charging pads on the center console.
This radical design pivot highlights a broader industry trend where traditional luxury automakers are redefining their heritage for an electric future. By introducing a car-like silhouette without sacrificing signature off-road readiness, Range Rover is challenging the conventional boundaries between sports sedans and utility vehicles. The interior also debuts a new inverted double-R logo on the center console to signal a subtle branding evolution. A full production reveal for the GT is slated for early 2027.
