How Bitcoin’s strong correlation to stocks could trigger a drop to $8,000

The Bitcoin (BTC) price chart from the past couple of months reflects nothing more than a bearish outlook and it’s no secret that the cryptocurrency has consistently made lower lows since breaching $48,000 in late March. Bitcoin price in USD. Source: TradingView Curiously, the difference in support levels has been getting wider as the correction continues to drain investor confidence and risk appetite. For example, the latest $19,000 baseline is almost $10,000 away from the previous support. So if the same movement is bound to happen, the next logical price level would be $8,000. Bitcoin not a currency? South Africa to regulate crypto as financial asset

The South African Reserve Bank is set to introduce regulations next year that will see cryptocurrencies classed and treated as financial assets to balance investor protection and innovation. Cryptocurrency use in South Africa is in a healthy space, with around 13% of the population estimated to own some form of cryptocurrency, according to research from global exchange Luno. With more than six million people in the country having cryptocurrency exposure, regulation of the space has long been a talking point. Companies or individuals looking to provide advice or intermediary services involving cryptocurrencies are currently required to be recognized as financial services providers. Liquidators can subpoena 3AC founders despite ‘tricky issues’ with crypto assets

A United States (U.S.) court has given liquidators permission to subpoena the founders of crypto investment firm Three Arrows Capital (3AC), including Su Zhu and Kyle Davies. According to a report by Law360 on July 12, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Martin Glenn issued an order on Tuesday allowing the subpoenas after being told by the counsel for the liquidators that the founders’ whereabouts are unknown and there were fears they could be selling off tens of millions in assets. The counsel, Adam Goldberg, said he didn’t know the current location of Zhu or Davies, alleging the duo have not provided “meaningful cooperation” with the liquidators. Goldberg raised concerns that 3AC may be selling assets by pointing to media reports that a Singapore property worth “tens of millions” was...

The Merge is a...

Why Coinbase is banning slide decks and ‘endless meetings’

Crypto exchange Coinbase is getting rid of slide decks and “endless meetings” as a way to improve productivity following the purge of roughly 18% of employees last month. In a July 13 blog post, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong noted that the company is currently focused on “driving more efficiency” as it continues to scale, pointing to a 200% year-on-year employee growth over 18 months that had started to put a strain on the firm’s organizational structure. He suggested that many major firms experiencing rapid growth generally end up becoming complacent and slowing down, while great companies do the opposite: “While this trajectory is natural, it is not inevitable. Every great company, from Amazon to Meta to Tesla, found ways to retain their founding energy in conjunction with appropriate con...
