India’s Serum Institute seeks approval for COVID-19 vaccine

The Serum Institute of India, the world’s largest vaccine producer by volume, has sought government approval for emergency-use authorisation of the coronavirus vaccine that it has developed in partnership with the University of Oxford and British drugmaker AstraZeneca. “As promised, before the end of 2020, @SerumInstIndia has applied for emergency use authorisation for the first made-in-India vaccine, COVISHIELD,” the company CEO Adar Poonawalla tweeted on Monday. The experimental vaccine can be stored at two to eight degrees Celsius and can be distributed more easily in India, which has the world’s second-highest number of infections at 9.6 million. Security expert calls for 10,000 vigilantes to provide protection for Borno communities

Security expert, Dr Ona Ekhomu, has advised the Borno State government to immediately hire 10,000 Borno Youths into a robust vigilance force to defend the state alongside the military, the police, the paramilitary and the Civilian JTF. The absence of a capable guardian is what facilitated the Borno massacre that occurred last Saturday, he added. Declaring the results at Isi-Uzo council headquarters in Ikem, INEC Collation Officer for the bye-election, Chukwuemeka Nwachukwu, said that Mrs Ugwueze polled 11,041 votes to defeat her close rival, Ejiofor Okwor, candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 2,293 votes. Mr Nwachukwu said that the rest of the other seven political parties that contested in the bye-election scored less than 70 votes each. FRSC goes tough on motorists using phones on wheels

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command has warned motorists using phones on wheels or be arrested . The agency gave the warning on Sunday , saying that it has observed with dismay the rampant use of phone by motorists while driving on the road. In a statement by the Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi Sector Public Education Officer, he stated that the Sector Commander of FRSC, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, said the corps had noticed a rising disregard of traffic and safety regulations which forbid the use of phone behind wheels.
