Minister: Nigeria working on plasma of recovered coronavirus patients for treatment

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, on Sunday said the Federal Government is working on research, using plasma from the blood of recovered Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients to treat people infected with the virus. Ehanire said this while answering questions from journalists in Abuja on the possibility of using plasma of recovered COVID-19 patients to treat serious cases. The minister, who spoke at a news conference to commemorate the World Blood Donor Day (WBDD), said some research institutes were already working on the new research. Suspected student lovers die in Imo after love making

The bodies of two lovers, Cynthia Obieshi, female, and Samuel Osuji, male, suspected to be students living around Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, at JMJ Bus Stop, have been found lifeless after the police broke into their room. The incident, which happened on Sunday, the police through the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Orlando Ikeokwu, in Owerri, said that following their preliminary investigation that the two lovers might have taken drugs. Police confirm three killed in suspected herdsmen attack in Benue

The Police Command in Benue, on Sunday, confirmed that suspected herdsmen attacked and killed three persons at Adama village in Agatu Local Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack in a statement in Makurdi. Anene described Adama village as a riverine community in Agatu with no motorable roads. He said that the Command has so far recovered three dead bodies, adding that more personnel had been deployed to the area to enforce law and order. Kano relaxes lockdown restriction on Mondays

Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has relaxed the restriction placed on Monday as a lockdown day in the state A statement signed on Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Malan Abba Anwar, said the additional day means that Kano State has a total of four free days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) as opposed to three free days that were previously approved. The statement added that the policy decision was to further cushion the effect and hardship caused by lockdown in the state as a result of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the state. “People are now free to move freely on Mondays within the stipulated time of 6am-6pm” said the statement. Lagos seals 56 illegal structures in Ikoyi, Banana Island

The Lagos State Government has asked 56 property owners sealed in Ikoyi and on the Banana Island axis to produce their building plan permits and evidence of stage certification. The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said this in a statement released to newsmen by Mr. Mukaila Sanusi, the spokesman of the ministry on Sunday. WHO: Africa’s coronavirus cases exceed 230,000

The UN health agency gave the update on its official twitter account @WHOAFRO on Sunday. It stated that “there are over 230,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent – with more than 105,000 recoveries and 6,200 deaths.” WHO also noted that South Africa, Nigeria, and Algeria had the highest reported cases on the continent. According to the organisation, South Africa has 65,736 cases and 1,423 deaths, followed by Nigeria with 15,181 confirmed cases and 399 deaths, while Algeria has 10,810 confirmed cases and 760 deaths.
