He stated this in a live programme with Ubi Franklin, stressing that he enjoyed an unusual relationship with D’Banj while they were together. He said: “The way I am with people in my company like myself and D’banj, money issues didn’t occur. POLITICO-Harvard poll: Stark partisan divide on reopening America

Americans overwhelmingly recognize the danger. Over three-fourths of Americans — including nearly two-thirds of Republicans and about 90 percent of Democrats — said they believe the coronavirus outbreak in their state is a “serious problem.” But two months into a startling economic collapse that’s left about 39 million Americans filing for unemployment, many of those hit hardest by closures are ready to begin recovery. Six in 10 owners or managers of small- or medium-sized businesses said nonessential businesses should reopen. Also in agreement were 52 percent of households where someone lost a job or went on forced unpaid leave, compared to 41 percent of those who haven’t lost income. “They’re basically saying they think the economic risk outweighs the health risk,” said Georges Ben...

It said that Oyema “Returned an adverse analytical finding for a prohibited substance in a urine sample provided on January 28, 2019 after competing at the Lagos International Para Powerlifting Competition in Nigeria last year”. “Consequently, the 38-year-old para powerlifter, who won gold at London 2012 Olympics in the women’s 48kg category, will be disqualified from all IPC’s competitions from May 3, 2019 to May 2, 2023.” The athletic body also stripped her of the gold medal which she won in the women’s 55kg competition in Lagos. “As...

Lagos conducts 16,000 coronavirus tests

The Lagos State Government says it has conducted about 16, 000 COVID-19 tests at a cost of N40, 000 to N50, 000 per test. Prof. Akin Abayomi, the state Commissioner for Health, made this known at the Lagos COVID-19 update on Thursday. Abayomi said that there were plans to ramp up testing capacity to about one thousand tests on a daily basis. He said that Lagos had conducted the highest number of COVID-19 tests in Nigeria, with four testing laboratories, and planned to increase the testing sites in the coming weeks. According to him, as the state ramps up its testing capacity, there will be need to subside the cost of the test, either through insurance or donor funds. “For now, the Lagos State Government is providing COVID-19 tests free of charge,” he said. The commissioner said that the st...

At least a quarter of the workforce is out of a job. How much worse will it get?

Here are some of the Q&As below, edited slightly for brevity and clarity. Where do you think our current situation will rank among the Great Depression and the Great Recession? In terms of depth, I think it will be as deep as even the Great Depression, way more than the Great Recession. But in my definition, the thing that makes it a depression is the collapse of the financial system and the extended/can’t escape nature of it. And for that, a virus recession hopefully will not have to follow the normal rules and [the economy] can come back at least much of the way back much more quickly. — Austan Goolsbee, economist, professor and former chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. How long will it take the U.S. economy to recover? It’s going to take some time to get back to ...

What Place Will Virtual Tipping Have in the Post-Pandemic Music Industry?

In China, virtual tipping provides a widespread, legitimate revenue stream for artists. Some think the pandemic will help (finally) normalize the practice Stateside. Andy Bothwell, a Brooklyn-based artist who performs under the moniker Astronautalis, has an online hub that lists links to his music, social media accounts and merch site. But after the coronavirus pandemic cut off the touring income he relies on to pay his bills, he added two new links to the top of the list: His Cash App and Venmo accounts, allowing fans to send him money directly. “I’m curious to see if I keep it there,” he says. His decision is more than a curiosity. As the pandemic has shut down economies across the globe, many artists are asking fans directly for cash — and music companies like SoundCloud and Spoti...

Live entertainment revenue at the German event producer fell 40.4% due to the suspension of concerts across Europe. Europe’s coronavirus crisis took a huge toll on German event producer CTS Eventim in the first quarter, leading to a 34.7% decline in revenue to €184.6 million ($202.1 million) and clouding the outlook for the remainder of 2020. Due to countries’ suspensions of concerts and other gatherings due to the coronavirus pandemic, CTS Eventim’s live entertainment revenue fell 40.4% to €108.6 million ($118.9 million) while ticketing revenue fell 24.4% to €79 million ($86.5 million). Trump administration cuts royalty payments for oil companies

“The Trump administration has provided virtually zero transparency on anything relating to bailouts of industry, and is deliberately resisting all efforts to bring sunlight to what is happening within Interior, Treasury and other agencies,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity, which filed a lawsuit this week week on separate issues to force Treasury to disclose the names of companies that have been given loans under the CARES Act. Oil and gas producers typically pay the federal government 12.5 percent of the revenues from onshore wells on federal land, but Interior has so far approved cut for more than 70 leases in Utah to between 2.5 and 5 percent, according to a database on BLM’s website. Interior in guidance earlier this month said it wou...

Clean energy backers’ anger grows as House ignores aid plea

Democratic lawmakers contend they haven’t forgotten renewable energy but say they are wrestling with an overwhelming number of sectors in dire financial need, and they expect it to be a pillar of forthcoming infrastructure legislation. Republicans have resisted further relief legislation to date. Rank-and-file Democrats in the House point out that Pelosi had said weeks ago that the HEROES Act which the chamber passed last week, would remain narrowly focused on coronavirus-related relief. However, the bill does include provisions on cannabis banking and direct relief for biofuels producers while offering nothing to clean energy, which industry groups estimated has lost nearly 600,000 jobs since the start of the pandemic. “It’s frustrating,” said Dylan Reed, legislative director at the trade...
