Much of the rapper Cardi B’s early success might be traced to the VH1 reality series Love & Hip Hop: New York. Her drive and undeniable flow have brought from that point to the top of the charts, nailing hit after hit, from “Bodak Yellow” to the slickest song of the summer, “WAP.” Now, at the height of her game, she’s making her return to the small screen — the smallest screen, in fact. Cardi B launched her new, eight-episode reality series Cardi Tries on Wednesday (December 17). As its title suggests, the show will follow the rap star as she challenges herself Simple Life-style with sports, stunt car racing, sushi-slinging — basically, anything she hasn’t tried before. The first episode takes Cardi to a dance school helmed by the legendary actress and choreographer Debbie Allen, where...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. Many artists do both, but not all DJs produce music and not all music producers DJ. Producers create the music that a DJ will then play out to crowds—it’s an important distinction that eludes many. Like a sleek Lamborghini driving from one coast to another, the art of DJing is a stylish means to an end. And music production is the engine that powers it. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagin...

Carnage is officially back. The famed electronic producer touched down in Thailand’s Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden last week for a monster performance at dance music festival RARE Thailand. The festival, which went down on Friday, December 11th, functioned as the country’s first normalized concert since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. It seemed to be a cathartic experience for Carnage, who, like most DJs, have been itching to get back to their normal touring routines in the absence of live shows. “I just threw a party with 10,000 of my friends in a Covid free country,” he wrote in a tweet, which features a clip from RARE. Check out the video below. It’s important to note Thailand’s progress in terms of the country’s C...
HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale spoke to “The MetalSucks Podcast” about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band’s follow-up to 2018’s “Vicious” album. She said (hear audio below): “We started demoing for this record in the middle of our last record cycle, when we were still on tour. I was in our practice room every day on tour, with my amps and everything, I would just force myself to write something every day. So, when we finally got to the point where we were, like, ‘Okay, let’s see what we’ve got,’ we all sit down and [go], ‘That one beats that one.’ It’s very much like having this thousand-piece puzzle, and you dump it all out. And you’re, like, ‘Okay, I know it all goes togethe...

SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian has confirmed to Rolling Stone that his previously announced solo collection of rock songs, “Elasticity”, will finally be released in February. The EP will arrive three months after the release of “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz”, SYSTEM OF A DOWN‘s first new songs in 15 years. Speaking about how “Elasticity” came about, Serj said (see video below): “‘Elasticity’, the songs on that EP were written many years back. When I wrote them, the original concept, for me, was, ...
In a new interview with Rob’s School Of Music, Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitar shredder for the ALICE COOPER band, was asked if she had any tips for young female musicians stepping out into the male-dominated music world. She responded (see video below): “Honestly, my advice for girls is the same as my advice for young dudes — it really is. And it holds true for both. So I’m just gonna give it for both, but it really, really applies for both. And that’s there are always gonna be people that doubt you, no matter who you are, no matter where you live, no matter how great you are. “I was just having this conversation this morning with [longtime boyfriend and manager] Josh [Villalta]. You take a band like METALLICA — we were just talking about METALLICA...
