Draymond Green has agreed to a one-year, $27.7 million USD contract to return to the Golden State Warriors. The deal keeps the four-time NBA champion in Golden State as he enters his 15th professional season with the franchise.
The $27.7 million USD figure matches the player option Green previously opted out of earlier this summer, a decision made to offer the Warriors financial flexibility during their pursuit of free-agent targets including LeBron James. Following James’ decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State locked in Green to preserve its veteran core under head coach Steve Kerr.
A cornerstone of the Warriors’ dynasty, Green enters the final year of his current contract alongside Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. Green averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists across 68 games last season, remaining one of the league’s premier defensive anchors with nine All-Defensive Team selections and the 2016–17 Defensive Player of the Year award. Appearing in 51 games this coming season will mark his 1,000th career contest with Golden State.
