ANTHRAX’s SCOTT IAN Looks Back On The Day METALLICA Fired DAVE MUSTAINE

In a brand new interview with MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn‘s “No Fuckin’ Regrets With Robb Flynn” podcast, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian recalled being present at METALLICA‘s rehearsal studios in Jamaica, Queens, New York in April 1983 shortly after the James Hetfield fronted-act fired Dave Mustaine just days before METALLICA began recording its debut album. “They all drank, but Dave drank more than they did,” Scott recalled wit ha laugh (see video below). “And the difference with Dave was, from my memory of that time, ’cause we were there all the time — we were hanging out with them all the time — all those other guys would get drunk and it was always fun, and Dave was kind of the not-fun guy when he would get too drunk. I mean, ever...

MITCH HARRIS Opens Up About His Absence From NAPALM DEATH

NAPALM DEATH guitarist Mitch Harris, who has been taking a leave of absence from the band since late 2014 to focus on his family life, spoke to Heavy Culture about his involvement in NAPALM‘s new studio album, “Throes Of Joy In The Jaws Of Defeatism”. Harris, who lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, played guitar on the disc but is not part of the group’s touring lineup. Mitch discussed his status with NAPALM DEATH while promoting “Scarcity”, the debut album from his BRAVE THE COLD project, also featuring MEGADETH drummer Dirk Verbeuren. Asked why he hasn’t been part of NAPALM‘s touring lineup for almost six years, Harris said (see video below): “I finished the ‘Apex Predator’ recording, and my father was very sick in Las Vegas. I li...

ANVIL’s LIPS Says Being An Influence On METALLICA ‘Hasn’t Meant Much’: ‘That Doesn’t Even Get Me Into The Movie Theater’

In a new interview with Rocking With Jam Man, vocalist/guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow of Canadian metal legends ANVIL was asked to name his “dream tour.” He responded (see video below): “If I could get an opening slot for one of the major bands, it would be nice. It would be nice to go on tour with METALLICA — only because I’ve known ’em for many years, and we’ve never done it. There’s two good reasons. So that would be kind of a dream tour. We got to do one show with them [in August 2013 in Singapore], which was pretty cool, but it would be nice to do a whole tour. Why not?” When Jam Man pointed out to Lips that ANVIL influenced METALLICA in the beginning of the latter band’s career, Kudlow said: “Ultimately, I donR...

ROB HALFORD: JUDAS PRIEST Is ‘Still Putting Bits And Pieces Together’ For Next Album

JUDAS PRIEST frontman Rob Halford spoke to Andy Hall of the Des Moines, Iowa radio station Lazer 103.3 about the progress of the songwriting sessions for the follow-up to 2018’s “Firepower” album. He said (hear audio below): “We’ve already started work on it. We had some great writing sessions in the early part of this year until the world came to a stop in late March. I came back here [home] to Phoenix just to chill and relax for a bit and get ready for another writing session. ‘Cause that’s what we need to do as a band. You make a bunch of work and then you walk away from it and then you go back to it later and re-analyze it and continue the growth of the record. That’s what we were doing then, and we’re still doing it now — we’...

Moore Kismet Keeps the New Music Flowing With Latest Single, “You Should Run”

Moore Kismet is one of the busiest producers in the electronic world today, balancing their budding music career with all of the demands of high school. Even so, they have managed to keep their fans on their toes, releasing three new singles just this fall.  Out October 30th, “You Should Run” is the producer’s latest, marking their debut release on Night Mode. Featuring songwriter and vocalist Pauline Herr, the track surprises with its melodic drop and bright, radiant synth details, helping it stand out amongst Moore Kismet’s trap-dominated discography. In fact, with its hollowed out bass line and softer sonics, “You Should Run” couldn’t be further from the artist’s trap-minded origins. However, with its magnificently arra...

Shoot Your Shot: Barack Obama Hits Walk Off Jumper: “That’s What I Do!” [Video]

Source: Drew Angerer / Getty Barack Obama does everything better than that other guy. Our Forever President shared a video of himself hitting a jumper and walking off with a diddy bop saying, “That’s what I do!” After receiving a pass, and in dress shoes, Obama took one dribble and put up his left-handed jump shot. All net. The last real POTUS shared the clip yesterday (Oct. 31) on Twitter not just to brag but to encourage people to vote, if you haven’t already, with the caption, “Shoot your shot. http://iwillvote.com.” We can’t decide what was smoother, the jumper or being handed a cup while talking off and saying “That’s what I do.” He lowered his mask, for a moment, to say it again for emphasis. Presidential candidate Joe Biden was in the gym—the pair was stumping in Michigan—and approv...

Busta Rhymes Returns To Superior Form With ‘Extinction Level Event 2’ [Review]

Source: Jared Siskin / Getty Busta Rhymes could very easily rest on the heels of his past success, having cemented himself as one of the greats of not only his era but of all time, arguably. However, there’s plenty more left in the tank if the rapper’s latest set Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath Of God stands as an effective marker. The long-promised ELE2 has been lauded as a classic by those privileged to have heard earlier iterations of the body of work but the 10th studio album from the New York star never materialized until the end of October. The moments of promotion and anticipation leading up to ELE2‘s release gave off the air of this being an “event” album, a rare thing in Hip-Hop at a time when there are seemingly a string of lauded releases each week only to be forgotten by th...

Stevie Wonder Live Debuts New Songs at Joe Biden Rally

Yesterday, Stevie Wonder joined Joe Biden at a drive-in rally in Detroit, Michigan where he live-debuted two new songs he released last month: “Can’t Put It in the Hands of Fate” and “Where Is Our Love Song.” “The only way we’re going to win this fight, a fight against injustice, is by voting,” Wonder told the socially-distanced crowd. “We must vote justice in and injustice out.” “I feel this election here is the most important one of my lifetime,” the legendary pianist added. “When I’m in California hearing about a group of people that are trying to kidnap and murder the governor of this state, excuse my language, but that’s some bullshit. Unacceptable.” Wonder also suggested that instead of a Juneteenth official holiday, the president should give reparations “for the work that we’ve...

Lil Durk Drops New Song “Stay Down” Featuring Young Thug and 6LACK: Stream

Lil Durk has dropped his new song “Stay Down” featuring a hook from 6LACK and a guest verse from Young Thug. This is the second single from Durk’s forthcoming album The Voice. Produced by Metro Boomin and DY Krazy, “Stay Down” is all about priorities. Specifically, Durkio prioritizes sex and lots of money. With the aid of auto-tune, he raps “Only five star shit, ain’t no thots with us/ Chanel round shades like binoculars/ Diamond nose ring, they think Pac with us.” He’s got punchlines about The Proud Family (“I gave you every Penny like Oscar”), and shows off some non-English vocabulary to prove that women of other cultures and faiths are more than welcome in his bed. But the Chicago native’s line about going “from Harold’s Chicken to eating lobster,” is unlikely to win him many ...
