2020 has been another massive year for beloved K-pop band BTS, what with their first-ever music Grammy nomination and history-making single “Dynamite”. But as any celebrity will attest, global domination can take a major mental and physical toll on you. That’s where BTS member Jin currently finds himself. Ahead of his 28th birthday, the Bangtan Boy has released a new solo single titled “Abyss”, inspired by his recent reflections on worldwide fame and the group’s loyal #BTSARMY. Jin explained on the BTS blog, writing, “Recently, in a press conference, I said: I don’t like to share my sad feelings with the fans. This is because I only want to show them the good things. However, I feel differently if it’s through music. I don’t like to share it through my everyday actions, but I think it woul...
La Chica is a French/Venezuelan singer, songwriter, and pianist who makes dazzling art-pop that feels like a living, breathing being. Today, she’s released one of these musical creatures, “La Loba”, which perfectly encapsulates the spine-tingling beauty of her work. The new song uses a combination of eerie piano and tense hand claps to create a mood that brings to mind Fiona Apple’s manic Fetch The Bolt Cutters and FKA twigs’ ghostly Magdalene. Most of the track is delivered in tongue-trilling Spanish, but the menacing phrase “I pick up the bones” come through in deadpanned English for pointed emphasis. Its accompanying video is similarly captivating, featuring shots of La Chica coated in blood while screaming, striking poses next to wolves, and lounging back in a chair to puff on a c...
Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Play | Stitcher | Radio Public | RSS Consequence of Sound and Sony present The Opus, an exploration of legendary albums and their ongoing legacy. For Season 11, host Jill Hopkins (The Moth Chicago, Making Beyoncé podcast) will conjure the enduring magic of Santana’s landmark Abraxas. For the second episode, The Opus is curious to know the stories behind the liner notes to Abraxas. Sure, Carlos Santana was the face and name of the band, but he wasn’t the voice and he didn’t make up the totality of their signature sound. Of course, a good bandleader knows it’s not always about them, and Santana was no exception to that rule. His crew of players were all virtuosos in reach of their respective areas, and together they cr...
After 24 years, Disney is pulling the plug on Radio Disney. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, both the primary outlet and Radio Disney Country will cease operations in early 2021. Radio Disney in Latin America will not be affected. The announcement comes as Disney continues a massive corporate restructuring begun last month. At the time, Gary Marsh was elevated from Disney Channel president to president and chief creative officer of Disney Branded Television. This is one of his first moves, and comes as his department shifts focus to producing more content for Disney+ and Disney Channels. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic also played a role in the decision. 36 Radio Disney employees will be laid off. Founded in 1996, Radio Disney provided a platform for some of the House of Mouse’s biggest s...

Someone needs to tell Baauer to take it easy. You’d think a Grammy nomination would be enough for him to take a break, but the renowned trap and bass music producer has just released an expansive mixtape that mutates the EDM genre into an experimental monster of Martian essence. Comprised of 19 beats that Baauer produced on Twitch, The Boptape picks up right where his alien-inspired PLANET’S MAD LP left off, at the intersection of audiovisual mastery and groundbreaking sound design. Highlights from The Boptape are aplenty, but a few of its songs are bona fide masterstrokes. The mixtape’s fourth track “Depop Damaga” samples Wildchild‘s classic house tune “Renegade Master,” using the timeless vocal to offer a ...
Ever since its release back in 2014, RL Grime‘s “Core” has remained a trap music classic. It is crystallized in the genre’s lore as one of its most groundbreaking and popular tracks, and one that still inspires artists to this day. “Core” has now received a monster live cover from drummer Calvin Kurt, who reworked the track with a raw and raucous flip. To add a little flair, Kurt also interlaced some spacey visuals to go along with his rendition, which is symbolic of an artist with a clear and unadulterated love of music. You can check out Kurt’s rendition of “Core” below and watch his many other covers via his YouTube channel. He has covered artists across the genre spectrum, but EDM seems to be a source of inspiration, evidenced by ra...
Darrell Taylor has the most Challenge wins of anyone vying for the Double Agents title, and the four-time champ knows this sets him apart from the rest of the Season 36 competitors. “I feel like it’s a big target on my back,” the Road Rules alum reveals in the clip above. “They’re going to be coming after me.” But the good guy (a nod to Inferno 2) isn’t the only veteran player returning to the unique game after several years. Theresa Jones is trying to secure her first W after last appearing on MTV back in 2015. “My life has changed tremendously. I now have two children,” the Fresh Meat 2 rookie turned Battle of the Exes 2 finalist divulges in the video. So how will she — and Darrell — form alliances with the people who have...
