The highly anticipated sequel to A Quiet Place still has yet to be released, but that’s not stopping Paramount Pictures from anticipating what should follow it. According to Deadline, the studio has reportedly chosen Jeff Nichols (Mud, Midnight Special) to write and direct a third movie for the franchise. A Quiet Place 3 — a stand-in for the actual title, which has not been announced — is currently scheduled for a 2022 release date. Luckily, Nichols has a lot of options when it comes to riffing on John Krasinski’s original idea, considering the first movie introduced a desolate, frightening, post-apocalyptic version of the modern world but offered no explanations as to how it got that way. Plus, we never learned how the hearing-sensitive monsters came to be either. Nichols w...
Next month, Frightened Rabbit will reissue The Winter of Mixed Drinks in honor of its 10th anniversary. The vinyl-only release will consist of a 12-inch containing the group’s original third album and a 7-inch featuring two live versions of songs from the LP. The first, “The Wrestle”, was taken from a 2010 concert at Cleveland’s Grog Shop. Meanwhile, “Things” was recorded at The Roundhouse in London in 2016. In a statement on Twitter, the Scottish indie rockers said, “The Winter of Mixed Drinks, now 10 years old, is a cocktail of emotions for us,” adding, “Perhaps through it we will all find a little lightness to help us through one of the darkest winters.” Speaking about the included 7-inch, Frightened Rabbit said they chose the two live recordings to “reflect the time we are all in ...
It was a massive week for David Guetta. In addition to his crowing as DJ Mag‘s #1 DJ in the publication’s dubious yearly “Top 100 DJs” rankings, he also won the award for “Best Electronic” at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards. To commemorate his EMA win, the barnstorming “Titanium” hit-maker performed live from Budapest’s Széchenyi Bath, the largest medicinal bath in Europe. The EMA production team pulled out all the stops for the momentous performance, as they constructed a festival-grade stage decked to the nines with lasers. For his performance of “Let’s Love,” his recent collaborative track with Sia, Guetta tapped fast-rising British vocalist RAYE, who delivered a dynamic performance of the 80-inspire...
As the live music industry continues its manic spiral into the virtual concert space thanks to the impact of COVID-19, the prospect of physical shows remains dubious. A decade ago, Alex Trebek had been hosting Jeopardy! for 26 years, a full six longer than I’d even been alive. I had no car or job, and it was summer vacation, so I began watching the show as something to do, a way to kill 30 minutes between dinner and whatever suburban sojourn I’d scuttle off to that night. But it quickly grew into a disciplined routine. I’d keep a spreadsheet tracking how many answers I got right as I watched at home, hoping to impress my family (and myself) with my vast knowledge of global geography and classical literature; after a few weeks, I realized I wanted to impress Trebek, too, should I ever make it onto the show as a contestant. He had become a fixture in my life, a steady presence whose warm wit made a trivia game show feel like a nightly fireside chat. Trebe...
Christmas is only 46 days away, but luckily, you won’t have to wait that long for a gift from Lil Nas X. Yes, the “Old Town Road” artist and chart-history maker is back, and this time, he’s got more than just the horses in the back. If the trailer for his upcoming new single “Holiday” is any indication, this time, he’s got just about every present in the world, as well as whatever else fits in Santa’s sleigh. Like Tim Allen popping out a jolly Kris Kringle gut in The Santa Clause, Lil Nas X marks the trailer by adopting a long beard, a trademark red-and-white hat, and those tiny bifocals before hopping on St. Nick’s sled, guided by his reindeer. But where’s Santa himself? Unfortunately, the big man’s been tossed out of an Ol...
