DEEP PURPLE’s STEVE MORSE: EDDIE VAN HALEN Was ‘One Of The Most Inventive Rhythm Players I’ve Ever Heard’

DEEP PURPLE guitarist Steve Morse has reflected on the passing of Eddie Van Halen, calling him ” one of the most inventive rhythm players” he has ever heard. The legendary VAN HALEN axeman died on October 6 at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer. Speaking to Everyone Loves Guitar, Morse said (see video below): “[Eddie] was a mighty guitarist and a mighty songwriter and one of the most inventive rhythm players I’ve ever heard. “I luckily got a chance to work with him for a few days,” he continued. “We were both endorsing Music Man, and Albert Lee, of course, also was. And we had a band called BIFF BABY’S ALLSTARS, started by Sterling Ball, and some of his brothers were playing and singing in the band originally. And John Ferraro and ...

Ariana Grande Announces Imminent Release of New Album

A new Ariana Grande album is imminent. The pop star coyly announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday, simply tweeting, “i can’t wait to give u my album this month.” Grande released her triumphant fourth album, Sweetener, in August 2018. Just six months later, she returned with its follow-up, the equally massive thank u, next, which ranked as our fifth favorite album in all of 2019. In the year-plus since then, she’s toured the world over, released a live album, and collaborated on tracks with Justin Bieber (“Stuck With U”) and Lady Gaga (“Rain on Me”). She most recently popped up at the MTV VMAs to perform “Rain on Me” with Gaga. Last month, Grande hinted at new music by posting a brief snippet of a vocal track to Twitter. In a subsequent tweet, she revealed she was “turning in these ...

43 Years After its Release, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors is Again a Top 10 Album

Ever since Nathan Apodaca jumped on his skateboard, with a jug of Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry in hand, and began singing along to Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”, the band’s music has been surging up the charts. Last week, “Dreams” re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 21, marking Fleetwood Mac’s first such appearance on the chart since 1977. And now, the album from which the singles comes from, Rumours, has climbed all the way into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 Album Charts. According to Billboard, Rumours earned 33,000 equivalent album units in the US in the week ending October 15, good enough for the No. 7 spot on this week’s charts. Upon its release in 1977, the album spent a record-setting 31 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but this marks Rumours’ first Top 10...

Beastie Boys License Music in Commercial for First Time

While other musical acts have been OK with licensing their music to advertisements, the Beastie Boys were the complete opposite — until now. The hip-hop group allowed the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris campaign to use a snippet of their 1994 track “Sabotage” in an ad that aired during the end of the Pittsburgh Steelers/Cleveland Browns football game yesterday (Oct. 18). Following the 2012 death of Adam Yauch, a clause in his will stated that none of the music he worked on or created would be used for advertising purposes. The group sued Monster Energy for using their song in summer 2012. And in 2013, there was a legal dispute over copyright infringement over their song “Girls,” which was used in a Goldiebox spot. While, again, it went against Yauch’s clause, the toy company actually sue...

Gordon Haskell, Ex-King Crimson Singer/Bassist, Dies at 74

Former King Crimson member Gordon Haskell has died at the age of 74. His death was announced in a brief statement on the musician’s Facebook page on Sunday. “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gordon, a great musician and a wonderful person who will be sadly missed by so many,” a statement read. The Official King Crimson page noted, “His time in KC wasn’t a particularly happy part of his long career but his work on In The Wake Of Poseidon [1970]and in particular, Lizard [1971] is much admired in the Crimson community. Haskell’s journey with the prog giants began even before the band formed; he was a school friend of guitarist, founder and longest-lasting member Robert Fripp and pre-Crimson, the two were in the group the League of Gentlemen in the mid-60s. Fripp’s...

Cardi B Deletes Her Twitter Account

“I’m so tired that because of y’all I’ve gotta continuously explain myself,” said Cardi, who recently reconciled with Offset after filing for divorce. “I didn’t put my divorce out there, a f—ing court clerk put it out there. And because people are making rumors up, ‘Oh, this guy has a girl pregnant,’ this and that, I have to address it.” Cardi then complained about comments her fans have left about Offset. “You guys want to be harassing this n—-. Bro, if I work things out, why are you going to this n—-‘s Twitter to harass him? That s— don’t make no f—ing sense,” she said. She also brought up remarks left about her recently being seen smoking a cigarette, clarifying that she was...

Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ Returns to Billboard 200 Top 10 — 42 Years Later

After a 42-year wait, Fleetwood Mac’s former Billboard 200 No. 1 album Rumours returns to the top 10 this week, as the set jumps 13-7. The album, released in 1977, is basking in the glow of sales and streaming increases spurred on by publicity generated from a viral TikTok video set to the album’s song “Dreams.” The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Oct. 24-dated chart (w...

Headie One and Internet Money Duel for U.K. Singles Chart Crown

Featuring AJ Tracey & Stormzy, “Ain’t It Different” last week improved to a peak of No. 2, and it’s poised to go one better. Nothing is guaranteed. U.S. rap collective Internet Money is close place behind with “Lemonade” featuring Gunna, Don Toliver & Nav. The margin after the weekend’s sales and streaming activity is just 123 combined sales. Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus’ “Midnight Sky” is set for a new chart peak, rising 6-3 on the chart blast. Further down the list, two songs are targeting some Top 20 action. Sam Smith’s “Diamonds” is up 23-15, and Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” improves 22-16. It’s early days, but the highest new entry could come belong to Justin Bieber and Benny Blanco, as their ballad “Lonely” starts at No. 19 on the First Look survey. The Official U.K. Singles Chart...

‘Listen all y’all, It’s a Sabotage’: Beastie Boys Get Behind Biden

“The Blind Pig” centers on the 42-year-old Ann Arbor, Michigan music venue which, like so many others, is financially crushed under Trump’s watch. Airing nationally during Sunday’s Steelers – Browns NFL game on CBS, the clip is voiced by co-owner Joe Malcoun, co-owner of the Blind Pig, and wraps with the punch of “Sabotage.” “A lot of restaurants and bars that have been mainstays for years will not make it through this — this is Donald Trump’s economy,” explains Malcoun. “My only hope, for my family and this business, and my community, is that Joe Biden wins this election.” With its iconic, Spike Jonze-directed “buddy cop” music video, “Sabotage” is one of trio’s best-known works. The song was introduced to a new generation of fans through its prominent placement in ...
