Local Natives will return next week with a new EP titled Sour Lemon. Out through Loma Vista Recordings, it’s being teased today with the almost-title track “Lemon”, a collaboration with Sharon Van Etten. The upcoming EP comes a little over a year after Local Natives’ 2019 album, Violet Street. In a statement, the California indie rockers talked about how the effort’s four tracks materialized in their own time, and separate from a proper album cycle. “There’s something freeing about writing without the goal of an album in mind. It feels like waking up for class only to realize that it’s Saturday and you can sleep in as long as you want,” they remarked. “The songs on Sour Lemon each have their own long histories but they all finally decided to arrive at the same time. Rather than waitin...

Source: Ubisoft / Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the next installment in Ubisoft’s famed Assassin’s Creed franchise, is about to drop in about under a month. I had a chance to experience a whopping 6 hours of gameplay of the game in an exclusive preview, which left me feeling very optimistic about the forthcoming title. Pre-COVID-19, Ubisoft would have invited us out to get hands-on with the game, but they had to improvise like every other industry and company. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to play due to hardware limitations, but Ubisoft set it up where I had my own personal “tour guide” for 6 hours to show me a sizeable chunk of the game before it launches. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, we are transported to the lush world of ninth-century England, ditching the bright...

In a new interview with the Phoenix New Times, JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford spoke about the impact the coronavirus-related shutdown has had on his and other musicians’ creativity. “I think the most profound thing for me with this pandemic has been the level of human consciousness, the way that we’re all connecting in a way that we’re probably never aware about,” he said. “That someone in Japan or South America is feeling the same way I do — that is a really important analysis. Each of the respective countries are going through the horrible political dissection of what we’re all suffering. And everyone has lost people. It’s one thing I’ve learned about human compassion and empathy. As far as making it work through creativity and art, ...
MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has told Stereogum that he is not a huge fan of the band’s third album, 1985’s “Theatre Of Pain”. “There’s parts I love, and parts that I don’t,” he said. “I can’t say it’s my least favorite, because there’s some great stuff on it. But as a band, we were still trying to figure out what it is that we all collectively did. I was just coming into the picture with songwriting, and we were in this headspace where we loved David Bowie. Every time you saw him, he had changed into something different. We liked that, so that’s why around ‘Theatre Of Pain’ we really glammed it out — super-bright colors, more makeup. Then we went for a different look on the next record. We were alwa...
California metallers ATREYU have surprise-released a new song called “Save Us”. It is the first taste of the band’s music since last month’s departure of vocalist Alex Varkatzas. ATREYU‘s current lineup features drummer Brandon Saller focusing completely on singing after previously sharing lead vocals with Varkatzas for most of the band’s two-decade-plus existence. Sitting behind the kit is Saller‘s HELL OR HIGHWATER bandmate Kyle Rosa, who had filled in for Saller on drums last year after Varkatzas bowed out of the band’s European tour while dealing with serious back and hernia issues. Speaking to “Cutter’s Rockcast” about the singer change, Brandon said (hear audio below): “I think people see things on the Internet, ...
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has released the third official video from its current album, “F8”, for the track “Living The Dream”, which is currently climbing the rock charts. Shot in Los Angeles, California last month, the clip is rife with symbolism and implicit social commentary. Having conceptualized the tongue-in-cheek idea for the video, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory explains: “America is a beautiful idea that draws immigrants like myself from all over the world to the promised land of equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This idea is now under siege and certain events are starting to remind me of the things many of us came here to escape… It’s not a ‘left against right’ problem but an evolutionary ...
Thanks to the unrelenting wrath of COVID-19, the road to ADE 2020 has been a rocky one. After cancelling the in-person iteration due to the impact of the virus and announcing a virtual edition, the organizers of the prestigious electronic music conference have unveiled the programming schedule for the brand’s first-ever digital event. Dubbed “ADE Online,” the conference is a free, immersive virtual conference featuring livestreamed performances, interactive workshops, masterclasses, DJ sets, films and documentaries, and shows from the ADE Specials arm. In early September, ADE announced that it was moving forward with a number of “Covid-proof seated concerts” to flesh out the ADE Specials program, including shows at Bimhuis, Concertgebouw, Melkweg, Pa...
With Ty Dolla $ign’s appropriately titled upcoming record, Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, dropping next week, the singer decided to give fans a taste of the record before its ‘featured’ presentation. Ty’s latest single, “By Yourself,” hit streaming services on Friday in advance of his third solo studio album. The track has the vocalist linking with fellow R&B star Jhené Aiko and, once again, with his tag-team partner Mustard. The world knows the two best for their years of collaborations, including “Down On Me” and the breakout smash “Paranoid.” As for the new track, Dolla $ign wants to make sure it uplifts fans before the album is released. He also hopes it serves as an ode to women everywhere — single women especially — who are doing their thing. “One of my favorite parts of maki...
Local Natives have shared a new collaboration with Sharon Van Etten, and its timing is quite good. “Lemon,” out now, tackles themes of longing for connection in a world of isolation, something most listeners can get behind right now. And its gentle acoustic instrumental and duet-style delivery mesh well with the Kenny Laubbacher-directed video, which takes place at the L.A. River. “From the time we started writing to recording to shooting the video, I have moved to L.A., Taylor [Rice] had a child who is now 10 1/2 months, and Ryan is now engaged,” Van Etten said in a statement. “I connected with the song at each stage: collaborating and getting to know each other, receiving their openness and generosity, recording the song and feeling the camaraderie and accepted as a part ...
