DJ and musician GDLK has been climbing the ranks within Denver’s bass music community and beyond with his genre-bending productions. Beyond just the music, however, he’s been hard at work bringing other elements into the fold. His latest album Catalyst and its accompanying video series combines music, alternate reality games (ARG), and hidden codes and cyphers to transport the listener into the GDLK story. Catalyst‘s video companion series has seen one new track released weekly. Together, the videos form a cohesive story about an alien called GDLK, who has taken human form and is on the lam from the SCP Foundation, a fictional body whose purpose is to “Secure, Contain, Protect” against scientific anomalies in user-generated horror and ...
After five years of throwing events in the Hollywood area dedicated to showcasing what’s new in the ever-evolving world of bass music, Space Yacht is officially launching a record label. The new division is a direct result of the organization’s efforts to continue championing underground talent even as live music shows presently remain on hold amid the pandemic. As life in quarantine set in, Space Yacht found new ways to engage with talent. They launched a regular Twitch series called Tune Reactor, and encouraged artists to submit unreleased music for live playback and feedback from their A&R team. Most of the initial releases from the new imprint will feature producers who were discovered on the program. According to Space Yacht’s founders, they’d been ap...
Hotfire reminisces on his early years in music while paying tribute to his best friend with his new EP, Think Back. The producer has released his second EP of 2020 as an ode to his former Hotfire sidekick, Eric Yandall, who passed away last year. Hotfire’s latest effort leans into experimental bass house, stylistically taking himself back in time to the roots of his career, which were spent making tracks in the garage with Yandall without a care in the world. Hotfire kicks things off with “Burn The Ground,” which boasts a weighty, gyrating bass lead. Broken up by ominous chords and sharp vocal chops, Hotfire leads things off with his heaviest flavors first. Things take a different turn however, with the EP’s title track, which takes to a more uplifting tone. W...
A show at Orlando’s Gilt Nightclub over the weekend is drawing the ire of the dance music community after footage from the event revealed a glaring disregard for social distancing. The concert, which featured Ghastly, occurred on Saturday, October 10th. The video below—shared by a Reddit user—shows a number of people in the crowd wearing masks while many are not. Social distancing, however, was largely ignored. It’s important to note that while the footage certainly looks damning for Ghastly, it is ultimately the venue’s responsibility to enforce rules and guidelines. Following the onset of the pandemic, Gilt Nightclub made headlines back in June 2020 for hosting a similar concert with dubstep artist Dirt Monkey. Following that show, a number of the nightclub’s...
Perhaps movie theaters in the Kingdom of Zamunda are open, but here in the States things are looking bleak. The lack of cinematic release options is the main reason why Eddie Murphy‘s new film Coming 2 America is emigrating from Paramount Pictures to Amazon Studios. The sequel to 1988’s Coming to America was originally slated to drop on August 7th, 2020, before going on standby until Christmas. Then the coronavirus happened, and blockbusters such as James Bond’s No Time to Die and Dune were pushed back to 2021. But Crown Prince Akeem Joffer won’t have to wait that long; as Variety reports, Amazon ponied up $125 million for the streaming rights. Now, Coming 2 America is expected to premiere on December 18th. Some details are still bein...

The sampler site offers films including Birdbox, Murder Mystery, and The Two Popes, as well as pilot episodes of Stranger Things, Love Is Blind, and When T...
Times are tough, and many of us have had to to rent out our ski chalets or let go of our backup pool boy (he was getting chunky anyway). Whether you’re on the upside or downside of this K-shaped recovery, you’ll have fresh opportunities to pleasure yourself with the property porn of MTV Cribs. Variety reports that new international episodes are coming October 26th, with a US edition premiering early next year. The first round of announced guests includes Caitlyn Jenner, former Glee star Kevin McHale, British singer Stefflon Don, reality-star/musician JoJo Siwa, and Selling Sunset’s Christine Quinn. A starry group, to be sure, though they’ll have a tough time living up to the bonkers excess of the original. The show debuted in 2000 and went on to run for 13 seasons. The appea...
It wouldn’t be a proper Fleetwood Mac challenge without Stevie Nicks, right? The longtime Fleetwood Mac singer joined her bandmate, Mick Fleetwood, on TikTok in order to recreate the viral “Dreams” moment started by Nathan Apodaca. Sitting by a piano, Nicks laced up a pair of rollerskates with the Fleetwood Mac tune blaring in the background. As undoubtedly the most qualified person to do so, Nicks busted out a quick verse (in 15 seconds, of course). You can watch it below. @stevienicksAfternoon vibe. Lace ‘em up! ##Dreams ##FleetwoodMac ##CranberryDreams @420doggface208♬ Dreams (2004 Remaster) – Fleetwood Mac The “Dreams” moment turned Apodaca into a star. Following Fleetwood’s recreation of the moment, the two actually spoke virtually on a BBC News broadcast. “One, we owe you,” Flee...
(Like all of Jonah’s articles, there is a corresponding Spotify playlist of all the bands he mentions. Feel free to immerse yourself and listen while reading. Imagine that, a feast for yer eyes and ears at the SAME TIME.) “Close Personal Friend Of Al” was the name of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s fan club. As a kid who was a fan, I was always very close to sending in my membership application but never did. I was 1.) Afraid of putting effort into something that might get lost in the mail and 2.) I knew it was just a clever name for a fan club and wasn’t an actual invitation to what I REALLY wanted as a kid: to be a close, personal friend of Al. “Weird Al” never played a show where I grew up and I was slightly insulted as he wore “Hawaiian” shirts but never played Hawaii. If he had played, would I ...
Artist x Artist. So simple, but so telling. When you put two creative minds together for a conversation, it can go literally in every direction. This happens on-stage during a show, it happens backstage, it happens at parties and it happens during great hangs. SPIN’s new series aims to capture the essence of what makes artists tick. Here, we’re going to connect old friends, people who have never met before or those who loosely know of each other’s existence for an unfiltered conversation that is intended to the proverbial fly-on-the-wall as this conversation takes place. We don’t know where it will go or have a set agenda. The goal is to capture the true essence of these behind-the-scenes conversations. We’re excited to launch the series with comedian/musician/SPIN contributor Jonah R...
