This was a particularly memorable win in an unusual year. NBA titles are typically won in June. This is no typical year. After a long break due to the pandemic, the competition restarted in a special “bubble” built in Florida to keep teams and their staff healthy. James and Co. gave the Lakers their first championship since the late superstar Kobe Bryant won his fifth and final title a decade ago. After the game, The King and fellow star Anthony Davis dedicated the trophy to Bryant, who died January in a helicopter crash. The Lakers’ 17th title tie the Boston Celtics franchise for the all-time record. Lakers fans partied well into the night as fans from the music community and across the entertainment worlds shared their thoughts on this historic season. Check out reaction from Snoop Dogg,...
Jeremy Bolm has spent the past decade striving to live up to the example set by his own words. The music he makes with his band, Touché Amoré, compels guys with neck tattoos to spend a half hour irresponsibly slamming into fellow fans before they corner Bolm after the show and reveal how they felt truly seen by “And Now It’s Happening In Mine.” He’ll be the first to tell you about the ways he falls short: 2013’s Is Survived By explored Bolm’s struggles with the pressures of being in a profoundly impactful (but not famous) hardcore band, which brought even greater success and demands. Bolm missed his mother’s dying day because he was “on stage living the dream” at Fest in Florida. He atoned by making an entire album about her passing from stage 4 breast cancer. This entire history is summar...
It’s becoming increasingly evidence that Spider-Man 3 is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Flash is to the DC Extended Universe. We got our first real hint this was coming when it was revealed earlier this month that Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro from the non-MCU The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, another MCU character getting caught the tangled web of Spider-Man 3 all but confirms it, as Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly appearing as Doctor Strange. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Cumberbatch’s Strange will fill the mentor/adult role held by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the previous MCU Spidey films, Homecoming and Far From Home, respectively. But considering the upcoming Doctor Strange standalone sequel is enti...
From Princess Diana to the Queen of Egypt: Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot and director Petty Jenkins have re-teamed for the new historical epic Cleopatra. 2017’s Wonder Woman was the highest-grossing live action film ever directed by a woman. So, it’s no surprise Gadot and Jenkins’ latest collaborator attracted an army of deep-pocketed suitors; Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures won a “wild auction” that included Warner Bros., Universal, Netflix, and Apple. The movie follows Cleopatra VII, a Greek descendant of of one of Alexander the Great’s top generals. After her father’s death, she fought a brutal civil war against her brother for control of Egypt. Her victory came as part of a more-than-casual alliance with Julius Caesar, but it was her ill-fated rela...
Killer Mike is one of the founding members of the new Black-owned digital bank Greenwood. As CNN reports, the venture officially launches in January of 2021 but has already received “tens of thousands” of account requests. Greenwood is the brainchild of chairman Ryan Glover, the creator of Bounce TV. He co-founded the bank along with Killer Mike and Andrew Young, a Civil Rights icon who has served as a Georgia congressman, mayor of Atlanta, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The platform was then officially unveiled on Thursday, October 8th, and has already been flooded with account applications. “I will say we’re in the tens of thousands,” Glover said. “That number is increasing ...

The fully-charged Wolfgang Gartner cranked up the voltage for his funky new single “Electric Soul.” He states that the track is one of his favorites in a long time and it was premiered earlier in the month on Twitch. In addition to the single, Gartner released a visualizer video to accompany the new release. Like the other famous Wolfgang before him (no, not the chef, the other one), the song opens up with some impressive piano. While in the 1700s that would be the end of it, this only serves as Gartner’s introduction before distorted vocals lead into a precise yet high-powered beat. With funky vocals and a captivating groove, the end result is sure to spark movement from all of those who plug in. Back in July, fans of Gartner celebrated the release of his latest EP,...

Hunolt‘s appearance on EXODUS‘s next disc was revealed by EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt, who shared a short video of his former bandmate putting down his track in the studio. Holt wrote in an accompanying caption: “Rick Hunolt laying down a SICK guest solo on this record! Slash has recorded a version of the “Love Story” theme song, in honor of film producer Robert Evans, who died last year and was a good friend. The GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist discussed his “Love Story” rendition during an October 6 interview with WGN News while he was in Elk Grove Village, Illinois to promote the new GN’R pinball game he helped design with Jersey Jack Pinball. Speaking about how he has been spending his downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic, Slash said: “I’ve just been recording and writing, and doing other assorted odds and ends. But for the most part just writing and recording. It’s been a good creative period, I can say that much. “I’m pretty much a workaholic and a busybody, so [the pandemic] put me in a sit...
