World Mental Health Day: Camila Cabello Lists the Things That Have Helped Her Deal With Anxiety

She went on to detail her experience practicing mindfulness, committing to movement, adjusting the way she talks to herself, learning to be grateful for the little things every day and more. “I committed to 10 minutes of mindfulness every day, at least,” she explained. “I started just every day for a year and a half. Haven’t skipped a day of mindfulness because it lets me focus on my breath, it lets me look at my thoughts from a more objective perspective as opposed to believing everything I think is true, which was, I think, a big source of my anxiety. Meditation was definitely, probably number one. It was a huge part. Also, really 10 minutes of meditating is 10 minutes of training your mind and body to concentrate on being present. Anxiety is really focusing on th...

Song of the Week: Stevie Nicks Lends Her Voice to the Fight on “Show Them the Way”

Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify New Sounds playlist. There are no shortage of voices being raised across America today. It’s a sign of the times. Politicians, activists, artists, and everyday people look around and sense that something is terribly wrong — and, more troubling yet, that it’s only going to get worse without an immediate change in course. Presidential candidate Joe Biden, as you’ve probably heard him tell it, came out of political retirement to run for office after he saw neo-Nazis and white supremacist groups marching and stirring up violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. We’ve seen children-turned-activists like Emma Gonzalez and Greta Thunberg sound the warning alarm ...

SNL Still Isn’t Sure How to Satirize Wokeness

When Saturday Night Live has a genuine stand-up comedian as a host, it can shift the whole structure of the show, which is what happened last week, with Chris Rock, and this week, with less famous comedian Bill Burr. Combined with the season’s endless debate sketches, a longer stand-up-based monologue can reduce the amount of airtime available for actual sketches. Unlike Rock’s gig, the Burr-hosted episode seemed to take some of its cues from Burr’s stand-up material — and with so few sketches making it to air, it only takes a few with common ground to make an episode feel more thematically unified than usual. In his monologue, Burr poked fun at notions of wokeness and allyship, making his case that white women have hijacked national conversations about equality and that a longer, warmer g...

FKA Twigs Is Finishing a New Album in Quarantine

While quarantine has halted the writing process for some artists, it’s sparked creativity for others. During a recent virtual interview for the Grammy Museum’s Programs at Home series, FKA Twigs revealed that she’s nearly done with an album that she wrote primarily in lockdown. “It was one-third of the way through and I just said, ‘You know what, I’m just going to make an album,’ and I just went and did it,” she said. “I’m just sort of finishing it now.” The project follows Twigs’ sophomore effort, 2019’s Magdalene, and was co-written with Spanish producer El Guincho, as well as songwriters Billy Walsh and Ali Tamposi — none of whom the singer-songwriter has met in person. “I was working with people I’d never met in real life and we were doing the whole thing over FaceT...

Disclosure Created a Song Sampling the Man Who Claimed “House Music is the Worst Songwriting”

A news program in the UK has drawn criticism from artists and fans alike after a critic said that “…house music is the worst songwriting.” On Friday, Calvin Harris clapped back at the critic by sharing an Instagram post emphasizing how the genre affected his career and helped him win a songwriting award. Taking things the next level with their response to the commenter, Disclosure used the critic’s words to create a new house song. On Twitter, they shared a video showing the statement alongside one-half of the duo, Guy Lawrence, producing the track. In the video, you can see Lawrence formulating the tune and incorporating the vocal snippet. While it may be short, Disclosure’s impressive songwriting skills are on full display and fans have already beg...
