Lil Wayne Drops Appropriately Titled Thursday Night Football Anthem ‘NFL’

Lil Wayne fans have waited years to find out what the “F” in “Weezy F. Baby” really stands for. But apparently it’s… football? Lil Wayne got his head in the game Monday with the release of his new single “NFL,” which is set to be the soundtrack for this season’s Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video. The track features Wayne disciples Gudda Gudda and Hoodybaby and will first air during this Thursday’s game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears. On the track, Wayne and his peers rap about playing in the big leagues and not messing with women who “kiss and tell” over a breezy trap beat. The song’s animated lyric video shows the guys calling their own plays with Wayne appropriately rocking some glittery grillz, which probably aren’t the best for the hi...

Phoebe Bridgers Now Has Her Own Record Label

Phoebe Bridgers has had an impressive 2020. There have been plenty of accolades and now you can add label boss to her impressive resume. Called Saddest Factory, it is a partnership with Bridgers’ current label, Dead Oceans. “The vision of the label is simple: good songs, regardless of genre,” Bridgers said in a statement. In an interview with Billboard, she detailed her plans, including the imminent release of the first artist on her label. She also explained the reasons why she formed her own label, including her “frustration” with signing a record deal when she was a teenager and detailed the various obstacles that have been put in front of her (“tweet more seriously,” unfair deal points). However, Bridgers told the publication that she’s excited to have her own label — especia...

Led Zeppelin Copyright Suit Won’t Be Heard By the Supreme Court

The contentious back-and-forth suit between Led Zeppelin and the estate of songwriter Randy California won’t be going to the U.S. Supreme Court. On Monday, the Court said that it won’t be hearing the case, leaving in place the March ruling that said that Zeppelin didn’t infringe upon “Taurus,” California’s 1967 song with his band Spirit. The original suit claimed that the intro to Zeppelin’s iconic “Stairway to Heaven” stole from “Taurus.” California, whose real last name was Wolfe, passed away in 1997 and had no hand in the lawsuit. The original lawsuit was filed by journalist Michael Skidmore on behalf of the Randy Craige Wolfe Trust. The Supreme Court didn’t give a reason as to why it was not taking on the case (which is generally pretty normal). The ruling written by the 9th Circu...

New AC/DC Album Will Include Malcolm Young’s Song Contributions

While AC/DC fans are still awaiting the official announcement about the band’s new album, the group’s longtime recording engineer, Mike Fraser, offered some new details about the upcoming project that confirms song contributions from the late Malcolm Young. Fraser told the AC/DCFans.Net podcast: Angus kinda came into this with a lot of ideas and riffs and not too many completed songs. But that was similar on [2014’s] Rock Or Bust. Because him and Malcolm [Young] had written tons of songs before Mal got sick and eventually passed away. So he’s got a whole treasure trove of ideas and riffs and all that. So he’s probably spent a few years before we came in to do this record pooling ideas together and all that, and then when he came into the studio here, he just sat down with a whole suit...

Phoebe Bridgers Launches Saddest Factory Label With Dead Oceans: Exclusive

That dream comes to fruition today with the launch of Bridgers’ own Dead Oceans imprint, Saddest Factory. The name is a tongue-in-cheek mispronunciation of the word “satisfactory” — which also happens to be a term used frequently in record deals — that was originally made on Twitter by her former Sloppy Jane bandmate Haley Dahl. “It’s always been a dream of mine to have a label, because I’m also such a music fan,” says Bridgers. She says she has been essentially pitching artists to Dead Oceans for years, and finally decided to ask Secretly for a label of her own when indie band Bright Eyes announced their signing to Dead Oceans in February — a deal that came together after Bright Eyes frontman Conor Oberst and Bridgers formed the indie-rock du...

GEDDY LEE Says ‘There Are Really No Unreleased RUSH Songs That Were Worth A Damn’

RUSH bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee discussed the band’s longevity in a new interview with Canada’s National Post. “We had a long career; we always went our own way; we weren’t afraid to laugh at ourselves — that sense of humour was definitely something we made sure was present in our live shows,” he said. “I think the camaraderie we had for so many years — we really were very close friends. Alex [Lifeson, RUSH guitarist] and I still are. I think that struck home with a lot of fans. People like to see long marriages and long relationships, people who work together without acrimony. Maintaining that civility and friendship, I think appealed to people because everyone wishes to be in that kind of situation.” Lee also talked about the possibility of new m...

Guitarist, songwriter, singer, producer, and owner of Gratitude Sound, Bryan Porter Hinkley will release his debut solo EP, “We Live Through It”, on October 16. The EP features Jean-Paul Gaster (CLUTCH) alongside Hinkley. Recorded in Hinkley‘s home during quarantine (with Gaster‘s parts recorded in Maryland), it was mixed by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak and mastered by Jeff Lipton and Maria Rice at Peerless — all in the artist’s hometown of Boston. “We Live Through It” is a three-song EP primarily written and recorded in a makeshift home studio during the spring and summer of 2020. It features three frenetic, upbeat, catchy and danceable tunes played on an acoustic guitar (a first for Hinkley) and anchored by the propulsive groove of Jean-Paul Gaster...
