SLAYER’s KERRY KING Has ‘More Than Two Records’ Worth Of Music’ For His Next Project

SLAYER guitarist Kerry King says that he has “more than two records’ worth of music” for his upcoming project. King is working on material for his first album since SLAYER‘s “Repentless”, which came out in 2015. “I’ve been very, very lucky with riffs in 2020,” Kerry told the Dean Guitars YouTube channel in a new interview (see video below). “Maybe because I can’t go anywhere — I don’t know — but riffs have certainly not been a problem. And looking forward into the future, what that means for me is I’m gonna be able to cherrypick the best stuff. And it’s good stuff. I’ve got more than two records’ worth of music, but to be able to go through that and cherrypick the best 11 or 12 [songs]… That fir...

Two Minutes To Late Night Shows Allyship With Rage Against the Machine Cover

Jordan Olds, host of Two Minutes to Late Night, dropped an explosive new cover. But unlike his previous collaborations, Olds took a step down from this one and handed the space over to musicians of color, who covered Rage Against the Machine’s 1992 protest song “Killing in the Name.” “Frick you, I won’t do what you tell me! We made a thrash metal cover of Rage Against the Machine and based on the subject matter of the song we wanted to feature only non-white performers. Defund the police,” said a caption on the video. The cover included: Aaron Heard, member of Nothing and leader of Jesus Piece; electro-rap artist Miss Eaves; Creeping Death guitarist Trey Pemberton; Fever333 guitarist Stephen Harrison; Fucked And Bound bassist Rah Davis; Spotlights drummer Chris Enriquez; and guitarist Izzy...

Thundercat Remixes “Dragonball Durag” with Smino and Guapdad 4000: Stream

Guapdad 4000 (photo by Paul Middleton), Thundercat (photo by Parker Day), Smino (photo by Heather Kaplan) Thundercat has shared a new remix of “Dragonball Durag” featuring underground king Smino and rising star Guapdad 4000. The song was already a highlight of It Is What It Is, one of our favorite albums of the year so far. The remix features more to love, with new verses to expand on the song’s effervescent charm. Smino is already well known in these parts, and for “Dragonball Durag” he busts out a funky flow that combines smooth syllables with staccato bursts of emphasis, as well as plenty of punchlines. As for Guapdad 4000, he’s spent the last year like a bomb in space, quietly blowing up. Along with Smino, he’s in the supergroup Zoink Gang with JID and Buddy, and his 2019 deb...

Ronnie James Dio’s Holy Diver Album Inspires Upcoming Graphic Novel

The Dio album Holy Diver is one of metal’s most iconic LPs, not just for its music but for its striking album cover. Now, thanks to a new graphic novel from Z2 comics, fans will finally find out why a priest was seemingly hurled into the ocean by the demonic figure Murray. Z2 Comics has tapped horror writer Steve Niles to tell the story leading up to the dramatic illustration on the cover of Holy Diver. Niles (Criminal Macabre, 30 Days of Night, October Faction) is being paired up with artist Scott Hampton (Gotham County Line) for the 120-page graphic novel. Ronnie James Dio’s widow, Wendy Dio, is fully on board with the project, stating, “Steve Niles tells the story behind the album cover Holy Diver, a story about how you can’t judge a picture by the way it appears, which is what Ronnie w...

The West Wing Cast to Reunite for One-Off HBO Max Special

Be still, my liberal heart. The cast of The West Wing is reuniting after 17 years for a one-off special on HBO Max later this year. Martin Sheen, Bradley Whitford, Allison Janney, Richard Schiff, Rob Lowe, Dulé Hill, and Janel Moloney, along with The West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin, will all come together for a special theatrical stage presentation of the season three episode “Hartsfield’s Landing”. The episode — which sees Josh (Whitford) obsess over the voting results in a small New Hampshire town — is an apt choice given the reason for this reunion. The special serves as a voter awareness campaign benefiting Michelle Obama’s When We All Vote non-profit, with the goal of increasing participation in the upcoming 2020 election. Obama herself will deliver a “special message” d...

In a social media post, he said that he “will keep working with Gizz putting out records but I will no longer be an active member or manager of the group.” While he didn’t give a reason, the band added that he plans “to focus solely on Flightless Records.” Moore was one of two drummers in the outfit, along with Michael Cavanagh. Moore founded Flightless in 2012 in Melbourne, Australia, shipping LPs in any old container, including pizza boxes. The label has since put out 18 releases by King Gizz, including their most recent effort Infest the Rats’ Nest, as well as albums by The Murlocs, Amyl and the Sniffers, and more. In his statement, Moore said, “I’m excited to keep growing the label and co...
