Hot, heavy and head-banging, “Dubstep Never Die,” the latest release from WHISKERS and BLAQOUT, is a force to be reckoned with. Released today via WaterShip Recs, a burgeoning label that WHISKERS spearheads, “Dubstep Never Die” stays true to its name, wasting no time before launching into dynamic, powerful bass and a face-melting, wub-laden drop. This track is certainly not for the lighthearted, making it sure to please trap and bass music fans seeking their next aural fix. It is the first release of 2020 for WHISKERS following his August 2020 label relaunch, which included a name change from WaterShip. You can check out “Dubstep Never Die” below. According to a press release, the track will be supported by a live tour booked through Prysm Talent Ag...
Having accrued an encyclopedic knowledge of dance music over the years, Laidback Luke has harnessed his arsenal of production techniques to develop a new DJ training course. He teamed up with online DJ school Digital DJ Tips to release the course, which aims to teach aspiring DJs and producers how to make bootlegs, mashups, and re-edits of songs to drop in their live sets. The goal of “Laidback Luke’s Bootlegs, Mashups, & Re-edits” class is to show beginners how to make edits of songs in order to be more original and obtain their own DJing style. “Bootlegs, mashups and re-edits have always been a part of what DJs do, and what I have done, and I have taught many DJs and producers some of the skills in this course privately over the past 20 years,”...
As if 2020 wasn’t wild enough already, Vin Diesel just emerged and asked the EDM community to hold his beer. The action movie star is taking a break from his franchise roles to partner with global super-producer Kygo to release his debut single “Feel Like I Do.” The Fast and Furious actor has showcased his love for all things tropical house with the new track, written and produced by Petey Martin and released on Palm Tree Records. “Feel Like I Do” has all the elements of a contemporary sun-soaked pop EDM track. The sugary synths and snappy bass lines pair rather nicely with Diesel’s vocals. For being his first venture into the music industry, he hit the nail on the head, creating a track that would blend seamlessly into any beach club playlist. We ...
By the mid-80s, Prince was a global superstar thanks to the worldwide success of 1984’s Purple Rain. So when he started work on his follow-up — eventually released on March 31, 1987 as the double-LP Sign o’ the Times — it came amidst a creative tsunami that saw two more classic albums with his longtime band the Revolution (1985’s Around The World in A Day and the following year’s Parade), the 1986 film Under The Cherry Moon and three ultimately shelved titles (Dream Factory, Camille and Crystal Ball). For those who worked closest to him during this period, including Revolution keyboard wizard Matt Fink (aka Dr. Fink), longtime engineer Susan Rogers and bassist Levi Seacer, Jr., it was astounding to see such a voluminous output from Prince during this time. “His creativ...
Until today, Tory Lanez had remained largely silent about allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot back in July. Now, though, the rapper born Daystar Peterson has finally broken his silence on the matter, but not by publicly apologizing or even issuing a simple statement. No, instead the Canadian MC has released a whole damn album denying Megan’s claims and bemoaning their impact on his career. Quick recap: Tory Lanez was arrested in mid-July on concealed weapons charges. A few days later, Megan revealed she’d actually been shot in the foot prior to his arrest. About a month after that, the “WAP” rapper confirmed rumors that it was indeed Lanez behind the trigger. Which brings us to last night. After disappearing from social media following the arrest and shooting, Lanez ret...
Indoor spaces are still a high-risk area during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It’s an unfortunate reality that has already cost the film industry $20 billion this year, despite some theaters choosing to reopen this summer and others suing for not being able to. But now, Alamo Drafthouse has a new workaround option that falls squarely in the middle: rent an entire theater for yourself! According to Entertainment Weekly, the beloved Texas-based theater chain is allowing patrons to rent out an entire theater for themselves — as well as “their pandemic pod family and friends” — for $150. An additional charge of $150 minimum is also applied for the group’s food and beverages, which are served directly to moviegoers in their seats by staff members wearing masks. This option will be available...
One of our favorite rappers to emerge this year has been Bfb Da Packman. After first appearing in June’s Blue Chips, our monthly column on new hip-hop, we spoke with Packman earlier this year about his rise from being a star regional rapper to possibly something bigger. Packman went to L.A. earlier this year, which led to him teaming with Wiz Khalifa in the studio. Today, we hear the results of that collaboration: “Fun Time.” Throughout the song, the affable Packman shines by mixing hilarious, topical lyrics as only he can. (Seriously, what else would you expect from the “Free Joe Exotic” rapper?) There are few emcees who can blend TikTok and PornHub at one point, then later sneeze and rap “Oh, Lord / I don’t got corona.” In the video, the Houston-via-Michigan rapper slips back and forth b...
It’s hard to say what a ‘typical’ movie plot for offbeat auteur Miranda July might be, but it still comes as a bit of a surprise that the latest offering from the writer/director of such Criterion-approved fare as Me You and Everyone We Know and The Future is a film about a family. Then again, Kajillionaire stars a different kind of kin: a trio of emotionally stunted con artists intent on maintaining an off-the-grid, glamor-free existence. Shifting between depictions of parent-child disagreements (relatable!) and scenes about robbing the terminally ill (less relatable!), Kajillionaire is a delicate, deft balancing act; it’s hard to imagine anyone without July’s distinctive vision and exacting attention to nuanced performances — the chemistry of discomfor...

Libra season is upon us, and so is The Libra era for T.I.. On his 40th birthday on Friday (Sept. 25), the rapper announced the title of his upcoming album, The Libra, which not only nods to his star sign but also stands for The Legend Is Back Running Atlanta. In conjunction with the announcement, T.I. unveiled his dynamic new video for “Ring,” featuring Young Thug. The clip finds Tip as a therapist and Slime his patient who has outgrown “the hostilities you’ve harbored from past activities.” Young Thug rejects how the “chaos” of his life affects him, and insists that he loves it. The duo then delve into the stirring track, trading verses against a background of luxurious cars and stunning women. Watch the video below. [embedded ...
