SuperM Blast Onto ‘Ellen’ With Explosive Performance of ‘One (Monster & Infinity)’: Watch

SuperM appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday (Sept. 23) to perform their new song “One (Monster & Infinity).” Taking the stage in a separate, socially-distanced studio, the K-pop supergroup — which includes NCT 127‘s Mark and Taeyong, WayV‘s Ten and Lucas, Shinee‘s Taemin and Kai and Baekhyun of EXO — danced their way through the performance with energetic, swaggering choreography. “Alright, no games, watch me deliver every time/ Catch me in the latest, driving spaceships/ One way, we going up, ain’t no decline/ Landing in the matrix, tryna break it/ Hands up if you feeling me, yeah/ All the way to infinity, yeah/ Aim high, we going up, there’s no decline/ So if you’re aiming anywhere, aim high,R...

Gus Dapperton Learned How to Leave Control Behind on Orca

Gus Dapperton isn’t about the facade that musicians — or anyone famous, really — are superheroes. And like everyone else, they deal with mental health issues. “[Musicians] are usually afraid to portray … to a large audience if they’re suffering or if they’re feeling depressed,” Dapperton tells SPIN. “I think it’s important to just express those feelings to everyone. The more you talk about it, the more helpful it becomes.” With his recently issued second album, Orca, Dapperton wants fans to consider assumptions about their favorite musicians or celebrities. Even the record’s title, he shares, derives from an Orca whale — a creature whose outward appearance may disguise its internal suffering. Dapperton (real name Brendan Patrick Rice) bounces through gritty, introspective lyrics on th...

The 50 Best Songs of the Year 2000

The year 2000 looms large in pop culture history: the Y2k non-scare, the Seinfeld “Newmannium” episode, the “In the Year 2000″ sketch from Conan O’Brien’s original late-night show, the Hulu series PEN15. And just like, say, the grunge-defined 1991, the year immediately conjures specific sounds: gleaming teen-pop, earnest radio rock, the Neptunes and Timbaland. There’s never a bad time to revisit this music. But in the middle of a pandemic, with America on the verge of collapse, it feels extra comforting — a blast of nostalgia for a time when you could safely exit your home, visit your local mall’s Sam Goody and buy Mystikal’s “Shake Ya Ass” CD single. For this list, our only criteria was that the songs appear on albums or soundtracks released in 2000. Here we go. 50. Papa Roach, “Last Reso...

Sad13’s Power-Pop Memories, Anthony Ramos’s Feel-Good Exhale, And More Songs We Love

Every now and then, I get this itch to drop everything, change my hair, and become a dancing gay Brooklyn bartender à la Coyote Ugly, never mind the fact that I can’t dance. I thought I might be alone in my disputatious daydreams until I heard Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club.” The rising pop starlet has been charting her takeover since signing with Atlantic Records as a teen, and the dusty yet decadent single is a promising sign of what’s to come. In a rhinestone cowboy hat, Roan starts off slow with visions of “a special place where boys and girls can all be queens every single day,” letting the soft keys give way to a triumphant electronic chorus reminiscent of Kacey Musgraves’s “High Horse.” Her voice reads as hallowed as the halls she sings about, and there’s a palpable electricity in ...

DEVILDRIVER‘s music video for the song “Wishing” can be seen below. The track is taken from the band’s recently announced double album, “Dealing With Demons”. The first volume — titled “Dealing With Demons I” — drops on October 9 via Napalm Records and marks the California metallers’ first release of new, original material since 2016’s acclaimed “Trust No One”. Representing the onset of a final purging of the themes that have long possessed frontman Dez Fafara and DEVILDRIVER‘s music, each track on “Dealing With Demons I” illustrates a different demon to be dealt with or released. As “Dealing With Demons I” explores the purging of a different demon per track, “Wishing” illustra...
