Guru Meditation – Next Life

RATING: 8/10 The problem with micro-subgenres like digital grindcore is that, for most of us at least, there is only so much of the stuff one can consume before your brain gives up and sends you howling back to your SLAYER collection. There has always been much to be said for drinking too much coffee and listening to AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED at maximum volume, but it’s not something you would want to do every day. Ultimately, it takes a band with the creativity and eccentricity of Norway’s NEXT LIFE to make the combination of overdriven electronics and lightspeed extreme hardcore seem fresh and worth investigating further. With a considerable catalogue of deranged releases already under their collective cummerbund, NEXT LIFE already have a sturdy reputation among those who obsess ...

Walter Lure, Co-Founder of Punk Pioneers Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Dies at 71

Walter Lure has died at the age of 71. The guitarist is best known for co-founding the Heartbreakers with New York Dolls’ Johnny Thunders. Though they only put out one album — 1977’s L.A.M.F. — the New York band is credited for pioneering punk. Los Angeles music venue Starwood wrote about Lure’s death in a Facebook post. “Walter Lure (April 22, 1949 – August 22, 2020) our dear friend has passed away,” it reads. “Walter was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer in July 2020, which spread rapidly and he died from complications related to the cancer at the age of 71, peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by family. He was much loved by all and respected for all he contributed to the world of music.” Lure left the Heartbreakers shortly after L.A.M.F.‘s release and beca...

Nirvana’s ‘Something in the Way’ Soundtracks Dystopian ‘The Batman’ Trailer

“Punk rock” is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Batman, but Matt Reeves’ reimagining of the Dark Knight shows a grittier side to the beloved superhero. Warner Bros. hosted a panel at DC Fandome Saturday night to give fans a look into The Batman, including its first trailer, and they picked the perfect song to soundtrack the clip: Nirvana’s “Something in the Way.” The iconic Nevermind closer weaves its way throughout the trailer, intertwining with Michael Giacchino’s movie score and dialogue from the film while highlighting the dystopian feel of Reeves’ Gotham City. As Stereogum points out, Nirvana syncs are not all that common nor easy to come by. When “Something in the Way” was licensed for Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2005 war movi...

Name after the Colombian singer-songwriter’s nickname of “Juancho” (short for Juan Luis), Maluma recorded the majority of the songs during quarantine with longtime producers The Rude Boyz (Kevin ADG and Chan “El Genio”). “All I could do during lockdown in Medellin was work alone in my studio,” Maluma told Billboard in an exclusive interview. “That’s why this album has so much of my true essence; because I did so much of it alone.” Following the release, Billboard spoke to Maluma about the album and broke dow...

Bright Eyes Return with New Album Down in the Weeds Where the World Once Was: Stream

Bright Eyes have returned with their first new album in nine years, Down in the Weeds Where the World Once Was. Stream it below through Apple Music or Spotify. Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and Nate Walcott released nine albums from 1998 through 2011. Together they led an indie rock revolution off of Dylan-esque folk tunes, but by the time of 2011’s The People’s Key, Oberst had somewhat soured on his earlier work, calling it “rootsy Americana shit.” In retrospect, perhaps they just needed a break. Oberst especially has been busy these last nine years, pumping out solo records, founding Better Oblivion Community Center with Phoebe Bridgers, and then co-writing five songs on her outstanding new album Punisher. While Oberst helped Bridgers become a star, she’s now returning th...

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Already Linked to Multiple Coronavirus Cases

No one saw this coming: the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has been linked to at least seven new cases of the coronavirus, with many more likely to come in the days ahead. On Thursday, the Panhandle Public Health District confirmed seven new cases of COVID-19 in South Dakota and nearby Nebraska “tied to the rally,” according to NBC News. Meanwhile, ABC 5 News reports that local Sturgis officials are planning to conduct mass testing of its residents next week in an attempt to mitigate a possible outbreak of infections from the rally. South Dakota health officials say they’ve seen a 43% increase in positive coronavirus cases over the past two weeks, with 125 new cases alone confirmed on Thursday. Upwards of 450,000 people attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally earlier this month, making it the...

Megan Thee Stallion Confirms Tory Lanez Shot Her

Over a month after it was first reported that Megan Thee Stallion was shot in the foot, the “WAP” rapper has confirmed that it was Tory Lanez who pulled the trigger. News broke in mid-July that Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, had been arrested for suspicion of possession of a concealed weapon. Megan, né Megan Pete, was in the vehicle with Lanez at the time and reported suffering glass wounds on her feet. However, the very next day, she took to social media to reveal she had actually been shot in both her feet “as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me.” At the time, the Los Angeles Police Department said Megan had not reported any crime. Over the next few weeks, however, she continued to discuss the experience, including surge...

AmeriFilms LLC is a Los Angeles-based film production company.
