Back in May 2020, Kaskade and Project 46 reunited for “Chains,” dropping a nostalgic progressive house anthem reminiscent of their larger-than-life 2013 collaboration “Last Chance.” Harnessing the soaring sound of “Chains,” Kaskade has now manifested it into a new “Chilled” version that arrived by way of his own Arkade banner on September 10th. It transports the track to the beguiling world of his patented “Redux” sound, which is rooted in deep house and downtempo electronica. “Chains Chilled” dials down the BPM of “Chains” from 127 to a more hypnotic 118, using elegant piano chords and heady bass plucks in the drop to deliver a refreshing take on its euphoric predecessor. 2020 has seen the electronic ...
Following the release of his first-ever ambient album MMXX, Diplo partnered with The Smithsonian‘s AirSpace podcast for a series of one-of-a-kind, limited capacity stargazing concerts. Debuting the series on September 8th and 9th, he played out the record at the “Under Ancient Skies: A Night of Ambient Music and Stargazing” show in Pioneertown for his fans, who were able to melt away under the glittering California night sky. When he announced the initiative on August 31st, Diplo mentioned “one more surprise up our sleeve.” It seems that surprise was an appearance from Flume, who shared video from the unique show via Instagram. Flume can be seen playing the keyboard alongside Diplo and Secular Sabbath on a stage retrofitted with an abundance of plants and a cl...
Fresh off the announcement of the enormous lineup for his virtual edition of Lost Lands, what more could Excision possibly have in store for us? The dubstep fan-favorite took to social media today to post a cryptic countdown timer, sharing nothing but the equally mysterious caption, “Coming Soon,” as well as a link to a website with a timer. The website simply reads, “Coming soon from the Excision team,” which doesn’t help fans one iota in their mission to figure out what he has planned. The site does allow visitors to subscribe to his newsletter, so they’ll have to settle for the notion of being among the first to know about what’s going on when X decides to spill the beans. It’s important to note that the timer will sputter out on...
The organizers of London’s Junction 2 Festival have officially unveiled the event’s 2021 lineup and it does not disappoint. After taking a year off due to the impact of COVID-19 and switching gears to the 3D digital market, they plan to bring the fest back to Boston Manor Park bigger and better than ever on June 4th and 5th, 2021 with some of the biggest names house and techno have to offer. The weekend will begin with sets from Four Tet, Honey Dijon, Jon Hopkins, Joy Orbison, Nina Kraviz, and more. Saturday’s lineup is just as impressive with performances by Adam Beyer, Amelie Lens, Blawan, Mind Against, and Maceo Plex, among others. If you are looking for a festival to plan out your return to live events, Junction 2 should be at the top of your list. Th...
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game — Complete Edition Ten years after its initial release, Ubisoft has announced an updated version of the beloved sidescroller Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game. The new Complete Edition will arrive sometime during the 2020 holiday season. The Complete Edition includes the original game and all the accompanying downloadable content, which unlocks new playable characters (Knives Chau and Wallace Wells!), minigames, and PvP battles. Up to four players can join together locally or online, piloting the roles of Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, S...
Earlier this summer, New York City collective MICHELLE returned with “Sunrise”, their first single since 2018. Today, the R&B-inspired group of mostly queer PoC are releasing an alternate version of that song featuring new contributions from British poet and bedroom pop artist Arlo Parks. This new collaboration doubles down on the feel-good warmth of the original track, breezy, sunbaked melodies and all. Its air of longing — specifically for someone who’s definitely not worth a second chance — also remains, but is further emphasized by Parks’ additional verse. Although just 20 years old, Parks has earned a reputation for brutally raw and honest songs — including perhaps one of the most devastating of the year — and she shows that same self awareness here, recognizing that she needs to ...
Conway the Machine has unleashed his new album From King to a GOD on Griselda Records. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. This is Conway’s third release of the year, following on his EP collaborations LULU (with The Alchemist) and No One Mourns the Wicked (with Big Ghost LTD). Those projects were short and hyper-focused. In contrast, From King to a GOD is an expansive effort, with the Machine picking grimy throwback beats from The Alchemist, Hit-Boy, Daringer, Erick Sermon, Beat Butcha, DJ Premier and more. The list of featured MCs is perhaps even more impressive, including Con’s brother Westside Gunn, his cousin Benny the Butcher, and hard-hitting rappers Method Man, Freddie Gibbs, DeJ Loaf, Lloyd Banks, Havoc, Flee Lord, Armani Caesar, and El Camino. A new report from the RIAA (Record Industry Association of America) found that vinyl album revenues of $232 million accounted for 62% of total physical revenues (CDs, vinyl), marking the first time vinyl exceeded CD sales since the mid-1980s. By comparison, $129.9 million was spent on compact discs. That said, vinyl sales still only accounted for 4% of total recorded music revenues. In total, revenue for the music business increased by 5.6%, totaling $5.7 billion in the first half of 2020, due to a growth in streaming revenue (paid subscriptions were up 24% and overall streaming revenue was up 14%). “These are historically difficult times: the live music sector is shut down; studio recording is limited, and millions of Americans are out of work across the broader economy,” RIAA chairm...
About a year ago, Australian middle-part heartthrob Ruel told MTV News that for him, “songwriting is exaggerating to an extent.” On his latest, the technicolor, soulful “As Long As You Care,” his exaggeration is so seamless, you’d be forgiven for believing the 17-year-old is actually a time traveler. The neo-soul groove he rides propels everything upward, even as the sound cheekily looks backward. “As Long As You Care” has one amazing hook, coupled with sonic candy that makes his upcoming third EP, Bright Lights, Red Eyes (out October 23) one to watch. —Patrick Hosken You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online.
