Dance Into the Weekend with Dillon Francis’ Eclectic “Tomorrowland Friendship Mix”

The People of Tomorrow are in for a treat after Dillon Francis flexed his selection chops with his brand new “Tomorrowland Friendship Mix.” The Platinum-selling electronic superstar has dropped a guest mix on One World Radio, delivering an eclectic set brimming with the quirkily kinetic sound synonymous with his fan-favorite brand. The hourlong mix is a whirlwind of sun-kissed deep house bops and tech twists on a bevy of popular tracks from the likes of Akon, Sean Paul, Flume, and many others. Kicking things off in style, Francis begins with a monster unreleased remix of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” by Nitti Gritti. He goes on to seamlessly intertwine house music with the precision of a seasoned vet, interpolating Tchami‘s “Bor...

New Biography Explores the Life of Wendy Carlos, Trans Woman Who Helped Develop the Moog Synthesizer

A new biography exploring the life of legendary electronic music composer Wendy Carlos has hit the shelves. Written by Amanda Sewell, music director at Interlochen Public Radio, the eponymous book offers an in-depth look into the fascinating life of the 3-time Grammy Award-winning musician. Carlos, whose pioneering developments in music production helped spawn the seminal Moog synthesizer, was also one of the first public figures to come out as a transgender woman. Robert Moog dropped the curtain on his bespoke synthesizer in 1964, introducing a sleeker, more compact version of the convoluted, analog wired walls of music studios at the time. Carlos went on to harness the power of the Moog synth to record her Switched-On Bach LP, an album that reconfigured Johann Sebastian Bach’s ...

Julia Stone Reveals New Song “Unreal”, Produced by St. Vincent: Stream

St. Vincent (photo by Ben Kaye) and Julia Stone (photo by Brooke Ashley Barone) Julia Stone returned this past July with her first solo single in eight years, “Break”, produced by St. Vincent. It turns out there’s quite a lot more to come from this pair, as a “greater body of work” is eventually coming down the line, according a statement. As another preview of this larger collaborative project, Stone and St. Vincent are now sharing a new track called “Unreal”. Not unlike her previous offering, Stone again sidelines her folk roots here, leaning further into synthpop territory. It’s a new look for the veteran Australian songwriter, but one that works in much the same way acts such as Sylvan Esso have built electronic music using the foundation of folk stylings. According to Stone, this late...

I’m Thinking of Ending Things “Explained”

If you’re reading this, you’ve likely finished Charlie Kaufman’s i’m thinking of ending things, and you’re probably wondering what the hell you just watched. You’re not alone. The general consensus from everyone who’s seen the film is that it’s a dense, labyrinthine meditation on, well, a lot of things. The film chews on memory, ego, grief, time, loss, and the laundry list of existential woes rattles on. It’s all permeable enough that the takeaways to be had are nothing short of infinite, and the film is very self-aware about that notion, so much so that one could argue that was Kaufman’s meta intent. But that’s always been par for the course when it comes to Kaufman. His ironclad resume speaks to a cinematic tradition of turning everyone’s minds into puzzle pieces — and that’s why anythin...

Zeal & Ardor Announce New EP, Unveil Singles “I Can’t Breathe” and “Vigil”: Stream

Zeal & Ardor have announced a new six-song EP titled Wake of a Nation. In advance of the EP’s October 23rd release date, the avant-metal act has unveiled two tracks, “I Can’t Breathe” and “Vigil”. As implied by those titles and the EP’s artwork — featuring two police batons — it’s a politically charged record from Zeal & Ardor, composed during months of unrest in the United States following the death of George Floyd in police custody and other similar incidents. The group had originally planned to release an album next year, but these songs couldn’t linger and were unleashed without hesitation. As frontman Manuel Gagneux wrote on the band’s Facebook page: “Wake of a Nation‘s intent and context should be obvious. I like to revel in ambiguity and in room for interpretation. This is n...

Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood (1975) Yesterday, September 3rd, Donald Trump held a campaign rally in Fred Rogers’ hometown of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. The 92-year-old retired pianist spoke her mind in an interview with The Daily Beast, saying of Trump, “I think he’s just a horrible person.” While Joanne has served as a brand ambassador in the 17 years since her husband’s death, as her son told the New York Times last year, “She has always been her own person.” That includes more active political stances. “Fred tried to stay pretty quiet about politics, basically because his program was for children,” Joanne said. “I’m alone now. I don’t do a prog...

Dr. Dre’s Wife Asking For $2M A Month In Temporary Spousal Support

Source: Karwai Tang / Getty Dr. Dre‘s wife may be on her way out of the legendary producer’s love life, but she’s not going without hitting him where it hurts. According to TMZ, Nicole Young filed legal documents asking the court for temporary spousal support from Dre at a whopping $2 million a month. Court docs show that Nicole is petitioning for $1,936,399 monthly in temporary spousal support, including an additional request for $5 million in lawyer fees, despite filing for divorce only two months ago. The documents also note that the amount requested is so she “can continue to enjoy the lifestyle she enjoyed during the marriage,” and requests the spousal support to begin retroactively from Sept. 1. The court documents go onto claim that while Young does not work, she was an im...
