MICHAEL SWEET Wants STRYPER Fans To Listen To Full Albums, Not Individual Songs

In a brand new interview with Metal Express Radio, STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet spoke about the fact that streaming is the primary method of music consumption for many around the world. In particular, a recent study from Deezer found that more than 50 percent of people listen to less albums than they did five or 10 years ago, with listeners having more choices about how to listen to a mix of music by different artists. “I’m not a fan of [services like] Spotify,” Sweet said (see video below). “I don’t know anyone at Spotify, anyone on the board. It’s not to be disrespectful to them or to say something nasty about their business, but I’m just not a fan. And for many reasons. And I’m not a fan of [individual song] downloads. “The thing I...

The National’s Bryan Devendorf Drops Surprise Debut Solo Album Royal Green: Stream

It’s been over a year since we last received a proper album from indie rockers The National. But it’s not as though the band’s members haven’t kept busy. Both brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner recently worked on Taylor Swift’s new folklore LP, while frontman Matt Berninger is gearing up to drop his first-ever solo record this fall. Now, drummer Bryan Devendorf is joining in on the fun, as he’s just surprise-released his debut solo album, Royal Green. Per a statement from the percussionist, this new effort was co-produced in Brooklyn with Nate Martinez. National bandmate Aaron Dessner contributed to the record, as did frequent National producer and arranger Josh Kaufman. Royal Green also looks to be Devendorf’s official solo moniker, as that’s the artist name credited across all streaming pl...

10 Bill & Ted Quotes You Probably Say All the Time

As Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan get ready to face the music in their long-awaited third and final adventure — um, Bill & Ted: Face the Music — it’s worth taking a minute to reflect upon just how much this unlikely duo have rocked their way into our pop-culture lexicon. When writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon first stumbled upon the idea of combining the time-traveling fun of Back to the Future with, let’s say, the party-time excellence of “Wayne’s World” and the surfer slang of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (anachronisms be damned!), little could they know that their good-natured, bumbling teens and their fledgling band, Wyld Stallyns, would, as they do in the franchise, go on to change the world forever. Editors’ Picks Whether you’re air guitaring in most-triump...

Sevendust Unleash “Blood from a Stone”, First Original Song from Upcoming Album: Stream

Sevendust are gearing up to release a new album called Blood & Stone, and the Atlanta-based metal act has unleashed the first original song from the upcoming set. The band previously released a cover of Soundgarden’s “The Day I Tried to Live” as the first single from Blood & Stone, but “Blood from a Stone” marks Sevendust’s first original tune since their acclaimed 2018 album All I See Is War. The track has a vintage Sevendust vibe, with thick, moving riffs from Clint Lowery and John Connolly; heavy rhythms from bassist Vince Hornsby and drummer Morgan Rose; and powerful, soaring vocals from Lajon Witherspoon. “’Blood from a Stone’ was inspired by the endurance and threshold of our band, the wins and the losses, the good and bad years. That we have more to give, more to say an...

Chadwick Boseman Made a Career of Playing Strong Black Men

For four years, Chadwick Boseman battled colon cancer in private. No one outside of his very tight, supportive circle knew of his diagnosis. To the rest of the world, he was a supremely talented actor on the rise, delivering an instantly iconic performance as a superhero, embodying a future Supreme Court Justice with due dignity, and illuminating the experience of war. He was known for playing strong characters on the big screen, and we only saw a hint of how truly strong he was in his own life. Yet this was Boseman’s way — “to be young, gifted, and Black.” His talent came with a graceful understanding of the culture he was representing in his roles, no doubt emboldened by his experience with life’s mortal mutability. Whether he decided to keep his illness private for personal peace or to ...

Leaked Images Suggest Spotify Is Working On a Virtual Concert Feature

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced a rapid switch from in-person to virtually hosted events overnight. While platforms such as YouTube and Twitch have had the infrastructure to host such events for a number of years, it seems the surge in demand for remote events has grabbed Spotify‘s attention. Screenshots from Jane Manchun Wong, an engineer with a history of uncovering features from major tech companies before they are rolled out, suggest Spotify is beginning to build out its infrastructure for the livestream event era.  Wong’s photos show fans may soon have the opportunity to search for virtual events an artist is playing, just as they would today for in-person concerts and music festivals. A move to expand its footprint in the virtual events arena makes sense ...

The First Ever Music Festival for Ants is Going Down This Weekend

A consortium of international music festival brands have announced their plans to throw a collaborative live music event for ants.  Yes, ants as in the insect. An audience of scavenging six-legged creatures will be attending the world’s first Antyfest, featuring performances from the artists who would have played the festivals live in the absence of the pandemic.  Miniature replicas of festival stages from around the world will be outfitted with a screen, which will stream a mix of both live and taped sets from the performing artists to an estimated 8,000 ants. The horde of insects were attracted to the stages for the taping of the event with the promise of food and subsequently released back into the wild. Among the festivals participating are Pohoda in Slovakia, Busan Roc...
