Ten years after the release of their first single, “Offline Dexterity,” UK-act Disclosure are releasing their most accomplished work to date. Following the success of 2016’s Caracal, the duo took a year off to soak in life and allow the music to come to them. The result is today’s release of the 11-track album ENERGY, via Capitol Records. Disclosure have garnered nearly five billion streams and five million album sales to date, but on this third album, they prove their art is well beyond chart comparison and destined for longevity. Disclosure originates from Reigate, Surrey, England, but since their debut 2013 album Settle and its follow up, Caracal, were respectively nominated for Best Dance/Electronica Album at the Grammy Awards, they’ve spent mu...

Within the scope of electronic music, there are producers, and then there are producers: artists, really, whose motivations fall neatly in line with a fascination with sound design, a hunger for sonic exploration and—most importantly—an enchantment with music and its creation. There is perhaps no finer example of the latter than Danish-born artist Galimatias, 29, who, for the last five years, has relentlessly worked to refine and expand his toolbox of music-making skills. He even moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to “focus on [his] craft” following the breakout success of his debut EP, Urban Flora, with Alina Baraz. The resulting music culminates in today’s release of Renaissance Boy, a sophisticatedly arranged and aurally effortless debut solo album crediting Galimatias for the fir...

The band has shared the new song “King Of Misery”, which was co-written by DISTURBED‘s David Draiman. Check it out below. “‘King Of Misery’ is a track that we hope all people can relate to at some point in their lives,” explains singer Blake Bedsaul. “It’s about being aware that your life is spiraling out of control and warning everyone around you that if they stay, you’ll only drag them down with you. We are the rulers of our own domain but there are certain life lessons that you can only learn in the struggle. At that point, we all become the ‘King Of Misery.'” Guitarist Zach Bedsaul offered f...

The official music video for the disc’s second single, “Underneath The Scars”, can be seen below. KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono said: “‘Underneath The Scars’ is a bulldozer of a track that will surely ignite the world’s metalheads into straight headbanging madness. We look forward to bringing this beast live when the time comes. “Since all the KATAKLYSM members live in different states and countries as well as all the travel restrictions in place, there was no way we could get together and film another concept video as we had planned. So we dug up some unreleased foota...
Blue Chips is a monthly rap column that doubles as a scouting report. Each month, SPIN selects a new starting five, a group of rappers who could be Rookie of the Year candidates turned Hall-of-Famers or forgettable flashes in the pan. Only the passing seasons (and the number of streams) will tell. To read previous columns, click here. Big Yavo – “Country Boy” [embedded content] The list of rappers who claim they “don’t write” grows every day. The implication seems to be that every song is spontaneous, one-take with no punch-ins, re-recording, etc. This is patently untrue. Jay-Z — one of the first to vocally declare he doesn’t use a pen — cleared up that misconception long ago. Big Yavo (pronounced yay-vo, not yah-vo) first gained attention outside of his native Alabama when he released “No...
The Flaming Lips have shared a slew of videos in the build-up to their upcoming album, American Head, and today, they added to that stunning array of clips with “Mother Please Don’t Be Sad.” The lyrics, based on singer Wayne Coyne’s teenaged near-death-experience, include the poignant “I didn’t mean to die tonight / but those robbers were so fast / their guns and their anger and I lost the fight. “ The song’s socially-distanced video was filmed safely during quarantine in the band’s native Oklahoma and directed by Coyne and longtime collaborator George Salisbury. Watch the video below. [embedded content] Additionally, The Lips have created a series of mini-documentaries highlighting songs from American Head. Written and performed by Chuck Willis and released as a 1956 single, “It’s Too Late” is a languid torch tune that verges on doo-wop — it’s prom slow dance bait. Willis’ singing and the over-stylized arrangement lends a febrile schmaltz to what should be a heartbreaking conceit: The narrator’s love affair is an extinguished flame. There’s simply no more there, even if the song — which seems to end before it’s even begun — isn’t all that broken up about it. Nearly a decade later for his Sings Soul Ballads LP, Otis Redding cut a drastic reinvention. The lyrics were altered dramatically; among many other changes, “you”s were largely replaced by “her”s and “she”s, so the speaker might be mourning his loss to someone at a bar, as opposed to a chagrined lover trembling in his bed. So too ha...
Source: Brandon Bell / Getty Looks like NBA players striking in the middle of the NBA Playoffs in the name of social justice might’ve worked a bit. Days after Jacob Blake was shot by an unnamed police officer in Kenosha, Wisconsin, authorities finally released the name of the trigger happy law enforcement officer hours after the Milwaukee Bucks began a day of NBA playoff boycotting. According to The Guardian, Rusten Sheskey was finally named as the police officer who shot an unarmed and unaggressive Jacob Blake in the back in front of his children, in turn sparking days protests in the streets of Kenosha, Wisconsin. The 7-year veteran was recorded on video holding on to Blake’s white shirt as he made his way to his car before Sheskey inexplicably pumped 7 bullets into his back after he ope...
