Lzzy Hale says she has “already succeeded in besting” HALESTORM‘s 2018 album “Vicious” with the material she has been writing for the follow-up effort. “Write…redraft…write… ok …there’s something special…follow it…finish it!” she wrote in an Instagram post on Friday (August 14). “I can’t wait for all of you to hear these new tunes myself and the boys have been cooking up. “If You are your own worst critic… like I am… you know how good it feels to be so proud of a little piece of music, to chase down in mid-air something that excites you and turn your thoughts into life. “I feel like I’m writing the best songs I ever have … and have already succeeded in besting...
RATING: 8/10 If you’re a fan of heavy music, there is seldom a shortage of exciting music that fits the bill. Then, of course, there are bands that make the vast majority of so-called heavy bands sound like absolute lightweights. PRIMTIVE MAN definitely fit into that category, and for those who have enjoyed (if indeed ‘enjoyed’ is the right word) the band’s efforts to date, it will come as no surprise whatsoever that “Immersion” is so absurdly crushing that it may make you laugh out loud. But not for long. The Colorado crew’s singular vision continues to reimagine doom as a suffocating act of internalized violence, rather than some groovy, psychedelic thing with handclaps and bellbottoms. “The Lifer” says it all: the kind of seven-minut...
Liverpool’s Cavern Club was the site of nearly 300 Beatles shows before the British Invasion, and now it “could close forever” in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Friday, Mayor Joe Anderson warned that despite the UK beginning to reopen music venues with reduced capacity, the historic venue is in danger of permanently closing if its bid to the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund falls through. “The fact that the world-famous Cavern could close forever because of Covid-19 should bring home to the Government how much our hugely treasured music industry is in peril. This virus has caused unimaginable pain and grief but it’s proving to be an existential threat to our cultural scene,” Anderson told The Liverpool Echo. “The prospect of losing a national jewel like the Ca...
House music connoisseur Chris Lake is back with his third release of 2020, an edit of Josement‘s “All Night Alone.” The Black Book Records founder has an ear for discovering underground tracks, which often leads to pure magic. Lake shared that the edit was originally intended for his live sets, but even though that purpose has been put on hold, it has now found new life to brighten up your weekend. Hearing what the track was originally made for explains the simple, yet poignant adjustments made to the original. He expertly filters the vocals, beefs up the hi-hats, and enhances the production to better suit his hard-hitting live shows. If you close your eyes, it almost feels like you’re there, awkwardly trying to mouth the indiscernible lyrics. The UK prod...
Though the COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the live music scene due to the cancellation of major tours and global festivals, innovation and adaptation are rapidly taking place in an effort to save the industry. The UK’s new pop-up venue, Virgin Money Unity Arena, is leading the charge toward building back to normal, recently hosting the nation’s first socially distanced concerts featuring English indie rock artist Sam Fender. The venue has implemented policies every step of the way to ensure crowds remain segmented throughout the experience. Cars were parked two meters apart and each party was guided separately to their seating area. The grounds were populated with 500 raised metal platforms, which hosted groups of up to five individuals. Mask weari...
Tiësto and Vintage Culture have just the “pick me up” needed to cruise through late weekend nights with their brand new collaboration “Coffee (Give Me Something).” The new single is fueled by pitched down vocal hooks and bubbling melodies capable of commanding a club dance floor. As the track builds, the vocal hook repeats in an earnest request to “keep me up like coffee” as the song breaks out into a stimulating sequence like a metaphorical “shot in the arm.” It’s the type of offering to bring listeners to their feet as an entrancing set of descending melodic riffs provide the perfect gateway to getting lost in the moment entirely. Falling in a similar creative vein to his recent singles “God Is a Dancer” and R...

Seven long years after its initial release, The Weeknd’s Kiss Land reached the top of the charts this week. In honor of the surprise achievement, the R&B singer has now dug up “a few songs and ideas that didn’t” end up making the final tracklist of that 2013 album. Abel Tesfaye shared these previously unreleased songs and outtakes during episode 9 of his “Memento Mori” radio show on Apple Music on Friday. He called the reveal a “special thank you episode to the fans for showing so much love to kiss land this week.” Amongst the demos and alternate versions is a remix of Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence cut “Money Power Glory”, as well as a demo of “One of Those Nights”, a track which appeared on a deluxe edition of Juicy J’s 2013 album Stay Trippy. Other demos include “Angel Face”, “For You...
