After a spike in COVID-19 cases during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, California Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered all movie theaters in the state to close immediately … again, reports Variety. The government mandate follows Newsom’s previous announcement that movie theaters in almost 20 counties, including Los Angeles County, would be closed for three weeks. After seeing the latest data, he decided to double down and closing all movie theaters across the state. Those numbers reveal that, over the past two weeks, California’s hospitalizations have risen by 28% and ICU admissions have increased by 20%. “This virus is not going away anytime soon,” explained Newsom during a news conference on Monday. “I hope all of us recognize that if we are still connected to some notion that somehow whe...
Leave it to His Holiness to make an entrance. The Dalai Lama’s newly released debut album, Inner World, hit the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s New Age album chart. Successfully moving 2,000 units in just its first week, the record also scored impressive placements on the World Albums chart (No. 8) and Album Sales chart (No. 98), as Billboard reports. Inner World pairs the Tibetan spiritual leader’s mantras and chants alongside ethereal, new age music composed by New Zealand artists Junelle and Abraham Kunin. The origins of the album date back to 2015, when Junelle delivered a handwritten letter to one of The Dalai Lama’s assistants, pitching His Holiness on the idea of coupling his teachings with original musical arrangements. Recalling their time together in the recording studio, Jun...
Hollywood continues to devour Stephen King’s latest collection If It Bleeds. Last week, it was confirmed that Netflix, Ryan Murphy, and Blumhouse are adapting “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone”. Now, according to Deadline, we know where the other stories are going. The book’s second story, “The Life of Chuck”, has been scooped up by Darren Aronofsky’s Protozoa. So far, the veteran filmmaker is only attached to produce, but the surrealist trifecta of a tale would be a perfect fit for the brazen auteur. Next up is Ben Stiller of all people, who has optioned the fourth story, “Rat”. If all goes to plan, Stiller would both star and direct the film, which follows a troubled writer who makes a Faustian bargain with, well, a furry critter. And finally is the titular novella featuring Holly Gibney. Details ar...
Kanye West may want to be president, but he has a long way to go if it’s actually going to happen (for a number of reasons). In the first piece of polling data to take into account the rapper/mogul’s candidacy, West is polling at a not-so-good 2%. Redfield & Wilton Strategies polled 2,000 registered voters in the U.S. and let’s just say that they’re not as impressed with West’s platform as he seems to be. Joe Biden leads the pack with 48%, with Donald Trump in second with 40%. When West is included in the poll, Trump’s number dips to 39% while Biden’s remains the same. On July 4, West issued his own declaration when he announced a presidential run. He was initially supported by Elon Musk, who has since walked back his endorsement following West’s interview with ...
Four suspects have been charged in the murder of rising rapper Pop Smoke. Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the charges on Monday. Two of the suspects, 19-year-old Corey Walker and 18-year-old Keandre Rodgers, face either life in prison or the death penalty if convicted. Two additional suspects, both of whom are minors, were each charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court. Jaquan Murphy was also arrested last week on attempted murder charges. At around 4 am on Feb. 19, the defendants are accused of breaking into a home in the Hollywood Hills that Pop Smoke, born Bashar Jackson, was renting. Multiple shots were reportedly fired and hit Jackson. After releasing the 2019 viral hit “Welcome to the Party,” he dropped MEET THE WOO&nb...
Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke was shot and killed in Los Angeles in February, but by May, talk of a posthumously released debut album was all but confirmed. And on July 3, that album indeed arrived as Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon, executive-produced by Smoke’s idol 50 Cent and featuring guest appearances by 50 himself along with Lil Baby, Quavo, DaBaby, Roddy Ricch, Lil Tjay, and more. The sheer force of the album, as well as Smoke’s legacy, is strong — on Monday (July 13), it hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the rapper’s first time at the top of the charts. His earlier mixtapes, Meet the Woo and Meet the Woo 2, had reached 105 and 7, respectively. His label head, Steven Victor, commemorated the album’s release by sharing behind-the-scenes clips of...
The actress Naya Rivera, who starred in six seasons of Ryan Murphy’s hit musical comedy Glee as the sharp-tongued cheerleader Santana Lopez, has died, according to a statement by a spokesman from Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. She was 33. Her body was recovered on Monday (July 13) from a lake outside of Los Angeles after going missing last week. Rivera was first declared missing on Wednesday (July 8) after going on a boating trip with her four-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, at Lake Piru. According to multiple reports, the actress had rented a pontoon boat around 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. Approximately three hours later, the boat was found by another boater with the young child asleep onboard, alone, wearing a life vest. An adult-sized life vest w...

After sharing a cryptic teaser and creating social media accounts in its honor last month, Tiësto is finally ready to debut his new side project, VER:WEST. Titled after his last name “Verwest,” fans have been eagerly awaiting to hear what the Dutch dance music veteran has in store. Luckily, the wait is almost over as he just announced that the first ever VER:WEST performance will take place at the Tomorrowland Around the World digital festival. Describing it as a “melodic house” side project, Tiësto spoke about his latest venture in a press release and shared how excited he was to show off a different side of himself. I would describe VER:WEST as melodic house music. It’s a lot deeper and more chill and a very different energy than Tiësto. I...
Red Rocks Amphitheatre was one of countless concert venues to shutter due to the impact of COVID-19. As those venues continue to toil away in the painstaking process of navigating the convoluted phases of reopening, many, like Red Rocks, are thinking outside the box. They say that when the air is thin, it makes your heart bigger—a phenomenon that many are desperately seeking in these harrowing times. The fabled Colorado open air venue, which is situated 6,450 feet above sea level, hosted the return of its “Yoga on the Rocks” series over the weekend and invited people to its sprawling property for some much-needed R & R. Those who have attended concerts at Red Rocks can attest that there is nothing quite like it due to its picturesque views and utopian fl...
After sailing the digital seas earlier in the year, Groove Cruise is back with another virtual event in the name of charity. Powered by Whet Travel, the “Virtual Sail Aways Live” event will be collective donations for the company’s COVID-19 relief fund in an effort to help artists affected by the pandemic. Through their previous streams, the organization has collected nearly $40,000, which will be distributed to the artists in need. This time, the boat will be rocking with live performances from Crystal Skies, Liquid Todd, Nurko, the appropriately-named duo Ship Wrek, and many more. In addition to the main lineup, Bryan Lubliner, Diskopretty & Friends, and Doc Brown will be hosting a special “night swim” after-hours event. In addition t...
POISON frontman Bret Michaels is working with Taran Butler, a 23-time Southwest Pistol League champ who has earned a national reputation as Hollywood’s go-to weapons trainer, on his first action/suspense streaming series tentatively titled “The Music Man”. Production on the show is set to begin when CDC guidelines allow, possibily in early to late fall. Video footage of the first day of training is available below. Back in 1998, Michaels starred in, directed and produced a psychological thriller film titled “A Letter From Death Row”. Sheen/Michaels Entertainment, his production company with actor Charlie Sheen, went on to produce “No Code Of Conduct”, “Free Money” and “In God’s Hands”. Michaels rose to fame in the 1980...
