Social Distancing Ignored in 5,000-Person Electronic Concert in Nice, France Over the Weekend

Ignoring many of the social distancing guidelines shared by the world’s medical community, a large group of people in France gathered for an outdoor concert over the weekend. While some underground events have been broken up for hosting around 100 people, the concert in the city of Nice attracted over 5,000 people, who gathered to see a performance from hometown artist The Avener. French news station France 3 Provence-Alpes obtained footage of the party, which displayed a packed crowd with few people wearing masks or practicing social distancing. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, released a statement on Twitter addressing the event and shared his regrets that mask guidelines were not upheld by attendees. Yesterday’s event at #Nice06 complied with government guideli...

SLIPKNOT’s JAY WEINBERG On Replacing JOEY JORDISON: ‘I’m Not Gonna Emulate Anybody’

SLIPKNOT‘s Jay Weinberg spoke to Spain’s The Metal Circus about the pressure he felt about joining a band that he discovered when he was a pre-teen, through his father Max, of Bruce Springsteen‘s E STREET BAND, and leader of the house band on Conan O’Brien‘s talk show. Asked if he felt like he had to walk on eggshells when he first came into the group more than six years ago, Jay said (see video below): “I wouldn’t say I was walking on eggshells. For me, I understood my role in the context of a band changing its dynamic dramatically, working on new songs without two of its founding members [drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray]. That was huge for a band that had, at this point, existed almost 20 years or something. It wasn’t like walki...

No New BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION Album Before 2022 At The Earliest

In a recent interview with “The Eddie Trunk Podcast”, guitarist Joe Bonamassa spoke about the possibility of a fifth studio album with BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, the band he formed with vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, THE DEAD DAISIES), drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN), guitarist Joe Bonamassa and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, ALICE COOPER, BILLY IDOL). Joe said (hear audio below): “We had on the books, we were gonna attempt a record in January 2021, but the timeline got pushed back. So it’ll probably be a year from there — at the end of 2021. But, yeah, we’re still a band, and we still all text each other and talk and stuff like that. “I listened to Glenn‘s new track with THE DEAD DAISIES [‘Unspoken’], and I ...

JOHNY CHOW Says Everything Is Split Equally In STONE SOUR: ‘It’s A Really Great Vibe’

Bassist Johny Chow, who joined STONE SOUR in 2012, told the “Not These Two Fucking Guys” podcast that he was “always a hired gun” in the previous bands that he was in, including CAVALERA CONSPIRACY. “The reason why STONE SOUR is so special to me, man, is because it’s been so many years since I haven’t been a hired gun,” he said. “And that’s what you start out doing. You’re just jamming in a garage with your buddies — you wanna be a part of it; you wanna play your own bass lines. “[Being a hired gun is] a double-edged sword, man,” he explained. “It’s, like, ‘Oh, you had a shitty tour? Fuck you — pay me.’ ‘Oh, your bus broke down, and now we’ve gotta… Fuck you — pay me.’ [A...

Kim Kardashian Shares a Sweet Throwback Video of Kanye West in Honor of His Late Mom’s Birthday

Kim Kardashian honored her late mother-in-law, Donda West, with a sweet tribute to mark what would’ve been her 71st birthday on Sunday (July 12). The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star shared a vintage video of husband Kanye West singing his song “Hey Mama” off 2005’s Late Registration via Twitter and Instagram Stories. In the clip, the rapper can be seen smiling broadly as he sings and dances alongside Donda in a home kitchen. West told Oprah Winfrey in 2005 that he wrote the tune for his mother in 2000. “It’s one of my favorite songs,” he said at the time. The rapper has previously performed the song on Mother’s Day 2019 during a special edition of his Sunday Service events. Donda died in 2007 from post-surgery complications. She was 58. ...

Roy Orbison’s Newborn Great Granddaughter Already Rocking His Signature Glasses

Roy Orbison’s granddaughter Emily Orbison has welcomed a baby girl, and she’s already paying tribute to her late great grandpa. The family posted the happy news with some adorable photos on the official Roy Orbison Twitter account Sunday afternoon (July 12). “We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Ruby Kate. She was born on June 20,2020 at 11:36am. Ruby is Roy Orbison’s first great grandchild. Welcome to the family, Ruby!! We love you more than anything,” the announcement said. In the pictures, baby Emily joins the family tradition of wearing cool dark glasses — and looks pretty cute doing so. Orbison, who passed away in 1988, had started wearing his trademark glasses while on a U.K. tour with the Beatles in 1963. As his sons recounted in their book The ...

Jarvis Cocker Says Fame Is Kind of Like Pornography

Jarvis Cocker gave quite the graphic analogy in a new interview. During a chat with The Sunday Times, the Pulp frontman compared fame to pornography. And honestly, it makes perfect sense. “It was a very strange time for me because I’d achieved my lifetime’s ambition and then found that it didn’t satisfy me,” he said when reflecting on the celebrity that followed Pulp’s 1995 hit “Common People.” He continued by saying fame “reminded me of pornography. Of how pornography takes an amazing thing – love between two people expressed physically – and kind of grosses it out.” The time was a confusing one for Cocker, who recalled thinking “What am I gonna believe in now?” He clearly figured it out though, because 25 years later and the 56-year-old is still making music. On Saturday, Cocke...

Margo Price Premieres New Album That’s How Rumors Get Started: Stream

Country singer-songwriter Margo Price has released her third album, That’s How Rumors Get Started, on Loma Vista. You can stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify. For a high-definition listening experience, you can sign up for a 60-day free trial of TIDAL HiFi. That’s How Rumors Get Started was initially slated for release on May 8th, though like many musicians, Price postponed the date due to the coronavirus pandemic. But fans can rest assured that the wait is worth it: in our  album review, we called it a “valid look at what it means to make a country record in a modern landscape of country-pop,” making it feel expansive enough for everyday listening. It’s a theme that is evident in the LP’s previously released singles, “Letting Me Down,” “Stone Me,” and “Twinkle Twinkle”. T...

Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, and 9th Wonder have released their debut self-titled album as Dinner Party. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. In a press release, the band’s origin story is explained as the intersection of authentic connection and musical camaraderie. “Dinner Party is years of friendship, shows, dinners, conversations, laughs and life experience, all converging into one moment,” it reads. “Dinner Party is a metaphor — a group, a project, a spirit, an imprint of time — and also the name of the album… Dinner Party is invite only, but it’s for everyone.” The supergroup of neo-jazz virtuosos and hip-hop producers was unveiled several weeks ago by way of “Freeze Tag”, their lead single. While Dinner Party is only seven songs long, it takes its time ...

Top 5 Covers of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide”

The tale of Fleetwood Mac (the Reader’s Digest version, anyway) can be told in two parts. There’s the blues rock version of the band, which featured a revolving-door of guitarists and gradually transitioned into softer rock over several records, and then there’s the pop powerhouse the band became famous as once guitarist-singer Lindsey Buckingham and vocalist Stevie Nicks joined for the outfit’s self-titled 1975 record. It’s the landmark album that would give the band its first huge success in America and result in several fan favorites like “Rhiannon” and “Landslide”. The album began a string of records lasting into the late ’80s, including Rumours in ’77, where the group, despite plenty of inner turmoil, could seemingly do no wrong musically.
