Zedd Featured in Star-Studded Alien Ant Farm Music Video

In the most unexpected crossover of the year, Zedd was featured in the newest music video from 90s nu-metal band Alien Ant Farm. On the band’s latest track, they covered Wham!‘s 1984 classic “Everything She Wants.” While they’re certainly no stranger to providing rock spins to pop songs, they decided to take their music video in a different direction and feature tons of special guests. Although many of the featured cameos were fans or bands from the same era as Alien Ant Farm, EDM lovers’ ears perked up when they saw one of the biggest names in the genre appear. For those having trouble finding the electronic music easter egg, the brief shot of him smiling and playing air drums happens just after the 1:50 mark.  Surprising to some, Zedd su...

Killer Mike on How White People Can Help: ‘It Is Being a Part of Fixing It Always’

Last Friday, Killer Mike delivered a powerful, poignant speech directed at protestors in Atlanta. And on Monday night, he went on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert to expound on those points. In the segment, he discussed the speech from Friday, where he and T.I. spoke at Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ press conference after spending a day promoting their food truck in the city before the protests. “He spoke and then beckoned me to speak,” Mike said. “All I said was purely in my heart.” He went on to mention grassroots groups like New Georgia Project, Movement for Black Lives, the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. The Run the Jewels rapper outlined what he called “Homework for all of White America.” “If there’s a riot going on in the streets, you gotta start to und...

Pussy Riot Share New Song “1312” Railing Against Police Brutality: Stream

This past week has been rife in police protests, rampant looting, burning buildings, and a blatant lack of equality following the death of George Floyd. During all of this, President Donald Trump has been, to quote Taylor Swift, “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism.” So it was only a matter of time until politically driven punk group Pussy Riot stepped in to write “1312”, a new song about ending police brutality. “1312” sees the Russian group collaborating with Argentinean artists Parcas, Dillom, and Muerejoven as a form of solidarity — similarly to their Vic Mensa track “Hangerz” — to honor “the bravery and strength shown in front of abusive police forces” at Chilean protests. Musically, “1312” is a hybrid of blown-out grunge beats, throat-scratching screams, punk rock br...

Disney Deploys Stormtroopers to Remind Patrons of Social Distancing

While Disney World in Orlando won’t reopen until next month, the House of Mouse recently revived the outdoor shopping center at Disney Springs. New coronavirus safety measures include reduced capacity, mandatory face masks, and a pair of bumbling First Order stormtroopers reminding patrons to maintain social distancing. In a video posted by Attractions Magazine, the stormtroopers are much closer to entertainment than security. They stand above visitors on a balcony, pointing prop guns skywards, while scripted dialogue is piped through loudspeakers. Even from the few snippets, their distinct personalities come through. The male trooper is a grating brown-noser, while the female soldier hates her job and wishes she could be anywhere else. This tension between them provides an excuse for...

Rush’s Alex Lifeson Doesn’t Feel “Inspired or Motivated” to Play Music Following Neil Peart’s Death

Next week marks six months since the death of Rush drummer Neil Peart, however, bandmate Alex Lifeson is still finding it hard to return to music. In a recent interview, he said that not only has he barely picked up his guitar, but that there’s currently little “motivation” to make music in general. “It’s been difficult,” Lifeson recently admitted on the sports radio program Talkin’ Golf (via Rolling Stone). “After Neil passed in January, I’ve played very little guitar. I just don’t feel inspired and motivated.” Fans of the legendary rock band have wondered whether the surviving members would forge ahead without Peart, but it sounds as though that won’t be happening anytime soon. “I don’t know if the motivation is there for us to really do anything now,” noted Lifeson. “We’re cer...

The Weeknd Donated $500K to Racial Justice Initiatives: ‘Please Give What You Can Even If It’s a Small Amount’

The R&B star also challenged major labels and streaming services to “go big and public” with their donations. The Weeknd is urging his nearly 23 million followers to follow his lead in donating to nonprofit organizations committed to racial equality. On Monday (June 1), the star detailed receipts of $500,000 in donations he split between Black Lives Matter Global Network, Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp and National Bail Out. “Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” he captioned the Instagram slideshow. “Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount.” In a follow-up post t...

Anuel Speaks Out in Support of Black Lives Matter

Anuel has spoken out against systemic racism and police brutality while expressing his solidarity with the black community. In his thought-provoking message posted on social media, the “Keii” singer calls out police brutality sharing personal moments of when he’s seen acts of racism during his time in prison. “In prisons, I have seen the racism against our African-American brothers and toward us Latinos,” Anuel writes. “I have lived it. If a black or a Latino person were to kill a police officer, we would spend the rest of our lives in prison. We cannot stand idle. They should sentence that police officer who killed George Floyd to life in prison.” Anuel joins multiple Latin artists like Amara La Negra, Zion, Prince Royce, Becky G, Reside...

Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globes Sites Commemorate Black Out Tuesday

Both the Grammy and Emmy sites urged visitors to support Color of Change and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. The lead stories at the sites tied to the Grammy Awards and the Emmy Awards on Tuesday (June 2) didn’t have anything to with awards or nominations, but with social justice. Visitors to www.Grammy.com were greeted with this announcement, set against a stark black background: “The Recording Academy stands with our members, colleagues, creators and the entire music community as we observe ‘Black Out Tuesday’ on June 2. We will use this day to reflect, as we know we can all be better…do better. “We recognize and embrace the responsibility that we all have in the fight against racial injustice. The Academy will join our colleagues in the music industry t...

HHW Gaming: Judge Tosses Out Maryland Players Jared Nickens & Jaylen Brantley ‘Fortnite’ Lawsuit

Source: The Washington Post / Getty Epic Games just scored a victory in one the lawsuits levied against its game Fortnite. The insanely-popular and highly addictive video game Fortnite came under fire when it was accused of jacking popular dances and selling them as “emotes” in the online shooter. Former Maryland men’s basketball players Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley saw U.S. District Judge Paul Grimm in Maryland toss their lawsuit against the game. ESPN reports that Grimm ruled on Friday (May.29) “that the Copyright Act preempts claims that Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley filed in February 2019 against Epic Games Inc., creator of the wildly popular online shooting game.” Initially, Nickens and Brantley claimed that Epic Games “misappropriated their identities” when the North Carolin...
