Last December, Moses Sumney debuted a video for a love song called “Polly” from his newly announced double album græ. It was about as unadorned a video treatment as possible: Sitting in front of his computer’s camera in a black t-shirt, framed by a white wall and some guitars, Sumney stared into our eyes while the song played. He did not lip sync as usual. Instead, he took a few deep breaths and began to weep, tears running down his cheeks. Every so often he gulped for air, but otherwise he remained still, and he never broke eye contact. Sharon Van Etten and Josh Homme Cover ‘(What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding?’
Sharon Van Etten and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme have teamed up for a cover of Nick Lowe’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding.” You are probably familiar with Elvis Costello & the Attraction’s 1978 version of the song and Bill Murray performed it at during a karaoke sequence in 2003’s Lost in Translation. Anyway, Homme has been laying low, so this is his first new musical contribution in a bit, though he’s going to appear on the upcoming Run the Jewels album on a track with Mavis Staples. Katy Perry Drops Surprise New Single “Daisies”
In 2019, cotton candy-hued provocateur and heir to the Cyndi Lauper throne Katy Perry released two of her strongest singles in years, if not ever: “Never Really Over” with its hypnotically synthesized hook, and the adorably awkward just-friends paean “Small Talk.” But no album has materialized since 2017’s Wokeness Witness. That is about to change; the pop singer just dropped a surprise single, “Daisies,” her first release of 2020. The video, shot during quarantine, sees the singer performing the song in daisy. It was directed by Liza Voloshin. As for the album, tentatively titled KP5, it is set to be released on Aug. 14 via Capitol Records. You can watch the “Daisies” video below. [embedded content]

New Band Mrs. Piss (Chelsea Wolfe and Jess Gowrie) Announce Debut Album, Share Two New Songs: Stream
Mrs. Piss, courtesy of Grandstand Media Singer-songwriter Chelsea Wolfe and multi-instrumentalist Jess Gowrie have formed a new band, the sardonically dubbed Mrs. Piss. The duo’s debut album, Self-Surgery, is out May 29th, and they’ve shared two new songs, “Downer Surrounded by Uppers” and “Knelt”. Mrs. Piss reconciles a long musical relationship between Wolfe and Gowrie, who once played together in a band called Red Host in the early 2000s. The idea to form a new band came when the two were touring together for Wolfe’s 2017 album, Hiss Spun. In the pre-coronavirus world, Brad Paisley would have been kicking off his summer tour this weekend. Instead, he’s taking his show to the Internet. But unlike the virtual acoustic concerts that have flooded the digital space since sheltering in place began two months ago, he is putting on a full-production arena show with his band.
