Introduced during the same time as Riot Games‘ League of Legends and Valve’s DotA 2, S2 Games’ Heroes of Newerth was a major competitor in the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game genre. Developed as another reimagination of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne’s custom map Defense of the Ancients (DotA), the beta for HoN was released back in 2010 as a full-priced game. Eventually, HoN was re-released a year later for free to match the free-to-play structure of its competitors. Despite its technical aspects, the game has been criticized for its steep learning curve and harsh critical community. Heroes of Newerth eventually could not stand to compete with its rivals in the MOBA genre as the years passed. At the start of the week, the Heroes of Newerth servers were officially shut down. Th...
Developers for the upcoming Gotham Knights game have hinted that the game will have a reaction if players were to enter an online game with the same character. In an interview with GameInformer, executive producer Fleur Marty and game director Geoff Ellenor said that the team is “leaving it up to the players,” claiming that some players would want to stand out from others. In contrast, some players “don’t care.” Co-op games will often allow you not to have the same characters or pay no attention to details that two of the same characters are present. It seems that Gotham Knights will be taking a different path, adding a fun aspect to the concept of having two (or more) of the same characters present at the same time. Fleur said that while he does not want to spoil anything, he claims that ...
By Lucas Villa Blue Rojo is leaving a colorful mark on Latin pop music. As the Mexican-American singer continues to take the genre to new places by fusing seemingly disparate elements of electronic and punk with reggaeton, he also lyrically pushes boundaries as an openly gay musician. Seeking to find himself after a few years of fleeting fame, Blue’s authenticity as an artist led him to sign with Universal Music Group last year. After releasing an album about being in love with a straight man, he continues to stay true to himself with his latest single “Soy Tu Payaso Papi 3000.” “It’s a dream to sing about gay love,” Blue tells MTV over Zoom from his home in Mexico City. “It’s so hot. It’s super passionate. It makes me feel alive. It’s what I...

At the old Mayan Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, fans are wound up for a smoldering night of jagged, turbocharged punk and deep blues. The Kills have come to reignite the present and reflect on their past amid the room’s angular, pre-Columbian temple decor and packed dance floor. At stage left is singer Alison Mosshart, with a mane of startling platinum, wailing to the riffs of “Murdermile,” a bleak tune from 2005. She grabs her mic stand and snaps her head forward and back, convulsing to the raw bursts of guitar from her creative soulmate, Jamie Hince, now blasting through his amplifiers. Together, Mosshart and Hince pause between riffs to growl and purr, “It’s a train wreck/You got me on the wrong track, honey.” This is only their third night back in the spotlight since 2019, part of a ...

The Mars Volta are back. The band has shared its first new music since 2012’s Noctourniquet in the form of “Blacklight Shine,” and has also revealed dates for its first tour in a decade. “Blacklight Shine” finds Mars Volta principals Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zaval at their most accessible, as it rides a Caribbean-flavored vibe far removed from the frenetic art-rock for which the group is best known. The music is showcased in a short black-and-white film that features Caribbean dancers. [embedded content][embedded content] As for the reunion tour, it kicks off Sept. 23 at The Factory at Deep Ellum in Dallas and wraps Oct. 21 at the Hollywood Palladium. The Mars Volta last performed in July 2012 at the HMV Forum in London. And though “Blacklight Shine” officially came out today...
