Drake gave just one day’s notice before his surprise new album, Honestly, Nevermind, hit streaming services Friday (June 17), and yet it’s already become Apple Music’s biggest dance album in history by breaking the platform’s record for first-day streams worldwide, according to a news release by the streaming service. What’s more impressive? It only took one hour to do so. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Honestly, Nevermind marks the 35-year-old rapper’s seventh studio album to date, featuring 14 total tracks and just one guest artist on “Jimmy Cooks,” the project’s final track which sees assistance from 21 Savage. The only warning he gave of the record’s arrival was a strikingly simple Instagram photo of the album’s psychedelic cover a...
The Libertines will release a souped-up version of their landmark debut, Up the Bracket, on October 21, via Rough Trade. Lambchop have announced a new album. It’s called The Bible and it’s out September 30 via Merge in North America and City Slang for the rest of the world. To preview the record, the band has shared the lead single, “Police Dog Blues.” Kurt Wagner explained in a statement that he wrote the song after witnessing the unrest in Minneapolis in 2020 while listening to the Blind Blake song “Police Dog Blues.” Check it out below. Accompanying “Police Dog Blues” is a music video directed by Isaac Gale, who generated it on the Unreal 3D graphics engine. “We took the police dog from the song title literally and imagined a city, post cop-apocalypse, overrun by German Shepherds just kinda doing their thing,” Gale said in a statement. “White privilege and apathy in the face of disastrous reality. Welcome to the Walkerverse. Alan Walker has officially released the first installment of his forthcoming album, complete with three previously unreleased tracks. Released June 17th via Sony Music, Walkerverse Pt. 1 is a microcosm of Walker at his finest, blending melodic bass and future house with orchestral melodies and bright, euphoric synths. “Adventure Time” (with Philter) kicks it off with grandeur, welcoming listeners into Walker’s universe with a cinematic build and epic progressive house drop. Then there’s “Somebody Like U” (with frequent collaborator Au/Ra), a bright and airy fist-pumper that bridges the elegance of a ballad with the energy of slap house. In the song’s official music video, its ethos pairs perfectly with fo...
We’re tuned to expect specific sounds from our favorite artists. Go to an Excision show and you’re getting an abundance of ground-shaking bass and dubstep growls. Seeing Armin van Buuren entails a bright mix of progressive house and trance. But once in a while, major artists surprise us with stark deviations from their established sounds, like Dillon Francis trading his moombahton style for deep house or deadmau5 eschewing his signature electro flair in favor of obscure, pulsing techno under his TESTPILOT moniker. It’s rare to see an event dedicated to artists exploring their left-field tastes though—something Louis The Child hope to change with their latest event concept, “Alter-Ego,” a multi-stage takeover of the Brooklyn Mirage. “We wanted to create an event where artists ar...
With his sophomore album, Party Favor felt the need to take one step back in order to move two steps forward. Despite a successful career path thus far by all accounts—one that garnered the producer over half a billion streams in the process—Favor found himself feeling a desire to disrupt his own status quo. At its core, RESET achieves exactly that. While his bold new chapter is finally reaching the public’s ears, the album touches on some of the producer’s limiting beliefs, including tormented feelings of anxiousness and the existential pressure that comes with being an artist. The album starts with a splash of cold water on the barnstorming “With Regard to Your Speakers,” a tone-setting introduction that bellows with ominous growl synths. The opening act is rounde...

Following BTS’ announcement of a “hiatus,” their management label HYBE Co. lost $1.7 billion in market cap, a massive dip that did not reverse even after the group clarified, “We are not disbanding.” The company’s stock price plunged a whopping 28%, The New York Times reports, reaching an all-time low of about $108 (139,000 won) per share. HYBE, which was founded as Big Hit Entertainment and which rebranded in 2021, made about $1 billion last year, with BTS alone accounting for a 58% increase in revenue over 2020. The news is seen as a bearish sign for South Korea’s economy, where BTS contribute about $3.5 billion annually. The Korea Culture and Tourism Institute had thought that the Bangtan Boys would generate even more income as pandemic restrictions loosened, n...
