Back with yet another memorable collaboration, Rezz and fknsyd have created an ethereal reimagination of Eurythmics’ all-time classic, “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This).” “Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)” is a haunting rework, utilizing fknsyd’s otherworldly vocals while implementing Rezz’s near-perfect production. It’s not the Canadian producer’s usual fare, however, as she’s ditched the bass-heavy sound we normally hear in favor of a plucky arrangement of synths. The slower, eerie feel of the rework befits both artists as well as the original lyrics of the song. Earlier this year, Rezz unveiled her third studio album, Spiral, to much praise from the electronic music world. The LP included her hit single with D...
Angel Olsen has released a stirring cover of Bob Dylan’s “One Too Many Mornings” from his classic 1964 album The Times They Are a-Changin.’ Olsen’s rendition is featured in the season finale and soundtrack of the Apple TV thriller based on Lauren Beukes’ best-selling novel, Shining Girls. The series stars Elisabeth Moss as a Chicago newspaper archivist with a traumatic past. According to a press release, all streaming royalties from the song will be donated to Everytown for Gun Safety, a nonprofit organization fighting for gun control. For Olsen, the melancholic and sparse rendition of “Mornings” sounds right in line with material from her forthcoming album, Big Time (June 3 via Jagjaguwar). Olsen released its third single, “Through The Fires,” which followed March’s “All The Go...
It’s been two and a half years since Lucasfilm closed its latest trilogy with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but during the annual Star Wars Celebration event at Anaheim Convention Center on Friday we got an update on the cinematic future of that galaxy far, far away. In an interview with Total Film, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that the next feature film will come from the cracked mind of Taika Waititi, and that they are targeting a release in 2023. Kennedy explained that it would come “not [in] 2023, but late 2023,” which makes sense, since the three latest movies — The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, all landed in December. She added, “We haven’t locked anything in.” She didn’t offer any details about the plot, timel...
Bruce Hornsby has enlisted Danielle Haim on his new single “Days Ahead.” “Remember how we used to be/ Connection that our friends could see/ Remember when we tried to learn German/ I told you what I learned today/ That this all too shall pass away/ It sounded like a stale, stale sermon,” the two sing, with the Haim frontwoman mostly on backing vocals, before jumping into the track’s chorus. The song’s music video was self-directed by Hornsby during the pandemic. The lyrical narrative plays out with a feuding older couple who call an elaborate dollhouse home. Related Video “Days Ahead” is featured on the singer-songwriter’s new album ‘Flicted, which also dropped today in full via Hornsby’s very own Zappo Productions/Thirty Tigers. The 12-track LP follows 2019’s Absolute Zero and 2020’s Non-...
The next season of Saturday Night Live is going to look a little different from what we’re used to, but not every one is leaving. Following the news earlier this month that Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and Kyle Mooney were all departing the show, Weekend Update anchor Michael Che said he “[doesn’t] have any plans to leave just yet.” “I think I’m staying,” Che told The Ringer’s Bill Simmons on his self-titled podcast. “I never know, it’s hard. Once the season’s over it’s best to not to make decisions like towards the end of the year because all you want to do is get out of there, you’ve had your fill. But August or September is usually a different story. I don’t have any plans to leave just yet.” Simmons did poke fun at Che’s indecisiveness, as the comedian has ...
