Death Cab for Cutie Sets Off ‘Roman Candles’ Ahead of New Album
Death Cab for Cutie has unveiled “Roman Candles,” the first taste of music from its next studio album, Asphalt Meadows, due out on September 16 from Atlantic. The track is a bit discordant (and brief) by Death Cab standards, as it rides a variety of loud and distorted noises underneath frontman Ben Gibbard’s signature vocals in a succinct 2:10 running time. Gibbard says the song “is about the crippling, existential dread that goes hand in hand with living in a nervous city on a dying planet, and that the only way to be in the moment is to let it all go. The Smashing Pumpkins Announce Fall Tour With Jane’s Addiction
In a bill straight out of the alternative rock heyday of the early 1990s, The Smashing Pumpkins and Jane’s Addiction will team for a fall arena tour dubbed Spirits on Fire, kicking off Oct. 2 in Dallas. The Pumpkins broke the news this morning (May 11) on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show and will also perform and talk about the tour tonight on CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden. In addition, the Billy Corgan-led band will have their handprints immortalized in cement today outside the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, a Hollywood tradition that spans decades of show business. Long-in-the-Works Danger Mouse/Black Thought LP Due in August
A long-rumored collaboration between producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and The Roots rapper/lyricist Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) that has been in the works for more than a decade will finally see the light of day this summer. The pair’s album, Cheat Codes, is due Aug. 12 from BMG and is led by its first single “No Gold Teeth,” an UNCANNY-directed black-and-white video for which is out now. The 12-track Cheat Codes marks Danger Mouse’s return to hip-hop for the first time since his 2005-era work with the late MF Doom on The Mouse and Mask, credited to DANGERDOOM. Sony Believes It’ll Have to Slash Game Budgets In Order to Compete With Xbox Game Pass

Netflix’s Ad-Supported Subscription Plan, Password Sharing Fees Could Launch in 2022
Netflix could be rolling out its cheaper, ad-supported subscription plan as early by the end of 2022. According to reports, an internal memo supposedly revealed that the streaming service is looking to launch its newest tier by Q4 2022. Netflix is also looking to further crack down on password sharing this year, with the company already testing out a feature in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru that makes subscribers pay an extra fee in order for users outside of the household to use the streaming service. Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings initially announced the cheaper tier during an earnings call in late April.
