DOROTHY Releases New Single, Announces Headlining Tour

“Gifts From The Holy Ghost” is the album that Hungarian-born vocalist/writer Dorothy has always wanted, and has perhaps been destined to make. Born from a sense of divine urgency, it is her most bombastic and gloriously, victorious rock and roll work yet. Each song built on triumph — the unshackling of chains, the slaying of demons with a sword of light — the album is a healing and remedial experience, made to unify listeners and point them towards a life full of purpose. Dorothy‘s unforgettable vocal performance is soul-baring, and her powerful resilience is palpably heard throughout “Gifts”‘ entirety and especially on its moving new single “Rest In Peace”. She reveals, “‘RIP’ is about breaking free from oppression, burying...

GENE SIMMONS Weighs In On BRITNEY SPEARS’s Conservatorship Battle: ‘No One Should Have Any Say Regarding Her Finances’

KISS bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has seemingly thrown his support behind pop singer Britney Spears in her conservatorship battle, which saw her finally speak out last year after 13 years locked into a guardianship that left her few freedoms, including financially. Britney and her family have been at war over her conservatorship, which controlled her personal affairs and estimated $60 million estate from February 2008 until its termination in November 2021. Earlier today, Gene took to his Twitter to share a TMZ article about Britney‘s estranged father’s request for her to sit for a deposition, and he included the following message: “Ok. Not usually an area I comment on. But here goes. @britenyspears_earned her money the hard way — she worked for it…No one, including pare...

DAVID COVERDALE Has ‘No Idea’ Why LED ZEPPELIN Reunion Isn’t Happening: ‘I Would Love For JIMMY PAGE To Have His Dream Fulfilled’

WHITESNAKE leader David Coverdale, who collaborated with Jimmy Page on a well-received album nearly 30 years ago, was asked in a recent interview with the “Radio Forrest” podcast whether it’s fair to say that Robert Plant is the lone holdout for another LED ZEPPELIN reunion. Despite promoter-led attempts to get the band to reform for a series of concerts, Plant remains committed to his new musical direction in the roots and blues-based “Americana” field. Coverdale said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “That’s not my territory at all. All I can tell you is that I would love for Jimmy Page to have his dream fulfilled to once again tour with LED ZEPPELIN. And Jonesy [LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones] — they’re great. And Jason [Bonham] ...

Nija Has Penned No. 1 Hits For Plenty Of Pop Stars — Now It’s Her Turn

By Alex Gonzalez These days, Nija Charles doesn’t have much time to sleep. In between business meetings and sessions with artists for whom she is penning and producing tracks, the New Jersey-born multi-hyphenate is booked and busy. With a resume boasting platinum tracks for artists like Ty Dolla Sign, Ariana Grande, and Beyoncé, she has become one of the industry’s most in-demand songwriters. After years behind the boards, Nija (as she’s known professionally) is finally at the forefront with her debut EP Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You, out today (January 28). Days before the EP’s release, she has been dealing with antsy fans demanding an update on the project, and perhaps even making “hella threats on [her] life,” as she tweeted. (Given the state of Stan Twitter, which she often lurks, this ...

Bop Shop: Songs From Joy Oladokun, Denzel Curry, Euphoria, And More

Denzel Curry‘s tenacity is undeniable. In the video for his first new single of 2022, he stands alone in the desert, dripping sweat, proclaiming, “Clear a path as I keep on walkin’ / Ain’t no stopping / In this dirty, filthy, rotten, nasty little world we call our home.” The subject matter (and accompanying visual) is relentless, but the music is laidback and smooth, allowing all the urgency to emanate from Curry’s rapid-fire delivery. The refrain “keep on walkin'” becomes like a mantra, something to repeat in the midst of ongoing crisis. —Patrick Hosken You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Red Hot Chili Peppers Tease… Something

Red Hot Chili Peppers are up to … something. The band posted a cryptic video across their socials this morning. Flea wrote: “Been nurturing the feral animal for quite a while, it’s about time to set her free.” If new music is on the way, it would be the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first new material with guitarist John Frusciante since their 2006 album Stadium Arcadium. pic.twitter.com/oRxtGEMR2i — Red Hot ChiliPeppers (@ChiliPeppers) January 28, 2022 The Chili Peppers are currently on a massive global tour, which they teased late last year. The band reunited with on-again, off-again guitarist John Frusciante in late 2019 in a surprise move. Frusciante left the group in 2009 and was replaced by Josh Klinghoffer. With Klinghoffer, the band recorded two albums, I’m With You in 2011 and ...

Meshuggah Unleash “The Abysmal Eye” as First Single from New Album Immutable: Stream

Meshuggah have offered up “The Abysmal Eye,” the lead single from their forthcoming album Immutable. “The Abysmal Eye” is a robust crusher and one of the strongest metal songs we’ve heard in 2022 thus far. Indulging the Swedish band’s extreme prog tendencies, the track melds dynamic grooves and technical riffs into a hypnotizing haze of sinister dissonance. Consider us thoroughly satiated. Meshuggah teased us with a snippet of audio when they initially announced the April 1st release date for Immutable, leaving fans clamoring for new music. Their first new song in nearly six years, “The Abysmal Eye” was clearly worth the wait — the fruits of an album cycle that almost didn’t happen. Sean Penn: “Cowardly Genes” Have Made Men “Feminized”

Sean Penn seems to never stop talking, and if you accidentally find yourself agreeing with one thing he said, you need only wait for the next dollop of unasked-for wisdom to drop like a turd from his mouth. In a new interview with The Independent, Penn decided to launch an unprovoked attack on the trans community, bizarrely claiming that “cowardly genes” have left modern men “feminized.” Penn was promoting his latest flick, Flag Day, alongside his co-star and real-life daughter, Dylan. “I think that men have, in my view, become quite feminized,” he said. “I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt...

Drakeo the Ruler’s Family Filing $20 Million Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Live Nation

The family of late rapper Drakeo the Ruler (born Darrell Caldwell) announced on Thursday (January 27th) they are filing a $20 million wrongful death lawsuit against Live Nation and other organizers of the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival, where he was fatally stabbed backstage in December. The case will be filed next week. In a press conference, the family’s attorney James Bryant played a video that surfaced online of the backstage melee that led to Drakeo’s death. “Mr. Caldwell was essentially lynched by over 40 to 60 people, and as you also saw, Mr. Caldwell had no security,” Bryant said. “That video ran for a full minute and you didn’t see one security officer there. The video you saw was one of the last few moments of Darrell Caldwell’s life.” Bryant also cited Astroworld, Travis Scot...

BounceBackMeek’s West Side Story

Blue Chips is a monthly rap column that highlights exceptional rising rappers. To read previous columns, click here. If you know Stockton, California’s high homicide rates and the gang activity, poverty, and institutional neglect that account for them, Louis Park seems located in a different zip code. The lush, green park is interspersed with towering trees, barbecue pits, picnic tables, handball courts, and baseball diamonds. Docks jut into the bordering San Joaquin River, where BounceBackMeek and his friends go boating during the summer, their most private conversations partly spoken in Khmer. For Meek, the 24-year-old grandson of Cambodian immigrants and one of the brightest talents in Stockton rap’s first golden age, Louis Park is a sanctuary. “That’s a safe place for us. I can hav...
