Nostalgix Unveils Nasty House Jam “Spice Girl” [Premiere]

90’s kids: whip out the Capri Sun, dump it into your morning coffee, and blast the newest single from house producer Nostalgix, who has dropped the curtain on her new single “Spice Girl.” While the track doesn’t sample the Spice Girls, it serves as an electrifying ode to the iconic 90s pop group with its spunky, intoxicating vocal refrain that urges listeners to “roll the dice.” With its seductive and forward-thinking sound design, “Spice Girl” represents a nasty house offering from the Vancouver-based young gun, who has been making serious noise in the genre over the course of the last year. “Spice Girl” expertly tightropes the line between filthy and groovy, as Nostalgix produces quirky, metallic bass patches and punchy drums, w...

Graves Responds to Allegations of Sexual Assault and Rape

Following graphic allegations of sexual assault and rape by two different women on Twitter, DJ and producer Graves has taken to the social media platform to respond. Graves’ response was precipitated by a deluge of tweets in support of two women on Twitter who shared their experiences with the Hawaiian artist, whose birth name is Christian Mochizuki. Just after midnight on June 10th, 2020, Twitter user @tiffanynonaka shared screenshots describing a traumatic sexual experience she encountered with Graves, who she explicitly calls out by name, at the age of 22. Following her initial allegation, Tiffany posted another tweet, which contained screenshots from an alleged second victim who had reached out to her. The second victim claimed to have been raped by ...

Grammy Award-Winning Rock Band Wolfmother Goes EDM in New Single “High On My Own Supply”

Swapping finger picks with future bass, Australian rockers Wolfmother recently unveiled their new single “High On My Own Supply.” The track represents a stark contrast from the award-winning band’s celebrated catalog of hard rock and metal, which was amassed by its prolific frontman and only continuous member, Andrew Stockdale.  Considering it represents the first time Wolfmother has deviated from their rock roots, the fact that fans have largely disapproved of “High On My Own Supply” does not take away from its brilliance. The track is a soaring future bass effort that takes a page out of MGMT‘s quirky, kaleidoscopic playbook, utilizing euphoric synths and vocal chops in its intoxicating chorus. The new single should open up a n...

Michael Stipe Joins Forces With Big Red Machine for New Song ‘No Time For Love Like Now’: Listen

Michael Stipe unveiled the music video for his new collaboration with Big Red Machine, “No Time For Love Like Now” on Thursday (June 11). In the song’s violet-hued visual, the R.E.M. frontman delivers a vocal take in the studio as he looks back on all the small things society took for granted before the days that words such as “quarantine,” “social distancing” and “coronavirus” became part of the everyday lexicon. “There’s no time for dancing/ There’s no time for undecideds/ No time for love like now/ Where did this all begin to change/ The lockdown memories can’t sustain/ This glistening, hanging free fall,” he sings over a synth-heavy orchestration led by Justin Vernon and The National‘s Aaron Dessner. “‘...

The 20 Songs of the Summer of the 21st Century, Ranked: Critic’s Picks

Every year, one song crowns Billboard’s Song of the Summer chart… but over the past 20 years, which Song of the Summer has been the most season-defining? The Song of the Summer is a concept that still captures the public’s imagination — the idea of one ubiquitous single that is intrinsically tied to the days of beach parties, cookouts and warm nights outside. Every year, Billboard launches the Song of the Summer chart to track the most dominant songs on the Hot 100 from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and every year, different sounds, voices and ideas rule pop radio (and, now, streaming services) to vie for the crown. There’s no formula to becoming Song of the Summer — looking back at the history of the chart, there have been dance hits and slow jams, rock singles and rap anth...
