Nothing compares to the feeling of emerging from the salon with freshly painted nails. They may be small, but there’s something about having elegantly manicured talons that makes you feel more confident (not to mention significantly fancier). The only downside? The expense—particularly when you bring nail art into the equation. While the steady hand, creative flair and keen eye of your nail-art technician is undoubtedly worth every penny, keeping regular salon appointments can be costly. Which is why it’s worth practising some looks at home which will appease your nail-art craving between appointments. Nail art is known for being difficult to master, and that’s certainly true of some designs. There are, however, some options that’ll l...
As an editor at Who What Wear, I typically spend a lot of time looking at new-in products, so every month, I update this story with the pieces that have caught my eye or that I have saved to my wish list. For autumn, more than ever I’m leaning towards classic, quality pieces that feel really elevated and special, but crucially that I can wear for my more low-key 2020 plans including walks, afternoons in the pub with friends and for working at home. As several warehouses and stores shuttered this year, the fashion industry faces huge challenges and strains that pose an inevitable threat to businesses, reflected in the number of flash sales launching every single day. Many of us won’t be shopping in the same way this year, but even a like on Instagram or a message...
Heist The Fifty Tights (£22) London-based brand Heist has a lot of hype, as it claims to have created the perfect pair of tights. Out of the 23 tights I tried, these were my favourite, as thanks to the high thread count (5000 yarns of nylon compared to the average 500), they’re soft, and the stretchy waistband and removal of the gusset means they keep their shape and don’t droop (gone are the days of trying to find a quiet corner to subtly hoist up your saggy tights). You also don’t realise quite how annoying the centre seam and seams on the toes are until they are gone—the only seams on Heist tights are at the base of your foot, so they don’t snag against your toenails. They might be more expensive, however, with detailed washing instructions and the snag-free desi...
While I really do love and appreciate makeup and all of its beauty, what I really don’t appreciate is what it does to my skin. Just one day wearing a full-coverage base will likely leave my face dry, upset and plagued with breakouts. You see, while most makeup is designed to make you look your best in the short term, the skin likes to breathe, and makeup doesn’t necessarily allow for that. While a full-coverage finish was once all anyone wanted, as years have gone on, trends have moved toward a more approachable, fresh-faced look. And we’ve been championing it from the get go, because what’s not to love about natural-looking glowy skin? The issue, however, is that the majority of us still itch for a little bit of coverage. And thus, we enter the vicious cycle of wanting to ...
Bags, I’ll admit, probably aren’t on everyone’s shopping lists right now. But I still think they’re a real practical item to own—even if you’re not making the trip to the office or a brunch out with friends, they’re still useful for stashing your antibacterial gel, face masks and holding the usual keys, money and mobile. For this autumn/winter 2020 the emphasis is on classic trends that you’ll love for a long time to come—which is particularly important when we’re considering our budgets more than ever. For me, when applying this to bags, a great investment tote is all about finding one that a) you love and b) is so classic that when you wear it years later, it won’t look dated. Navigating the world of luxury vintage can feel like a bit of a minefield. Which items are worth investing in? Which will stand the test of time? And most importantly, how do you know if a product will hold its value? When it comes to making a luxury vintage purchase, all of these questions are valid musings, and luckily there are several experts out there who have the exact answers and insight you might seek. In the spirit of secondhand September, we tapped Fashion Director and Co-Founder of Vestiaire Collective, Sophie Hersan, to understand exactly which luxury vintage peices are worthwhile investments. “Unique vintage pieces always sell well and therefore tend to be failsafe investment pieces too,” Hersan explained. “Vintage Celine, Dior, Gucci, Nyl...

“Personally, I like to opt for something a little deeper in scent; much like the new Jo Loves Fig Trees candle,” Malone continues. “It reminds me of my early morning dog walks around the Serpentine in London. Blue skies, imagination, and a mezze of different tree colognes—total heaven. This autumn, I’ll be burning this candle and enjoying it with a warming mug of hot chocolate.” It seems Jo Malone and I are kindred spirits. While we both tend to gravitate towards complex scents with fruity notes, such as fig, pomegranate, and berries, there countless other fragranced candle options to choose from for the season ahead. Whether you’re a fan of puffers, trenches or oversized teddy coats, there’s no way to deny that the humble coat is an absolute necessity as we head into the autumn season. Thankfully, as per usual, there is plenty of inspiration to be had from the fashion crowd, proving that coats needn’t be an afterthought. We’re seeing a number of standout trends start to emerge as we settle into September, and each and every one of them can be worn now with light layers then bulked up for the winter months. We’re talking luxe leather trenches, which will look so good with jeans and chunky boots, checked coats, for plenty of punk-inspired vibes, oh and not forgetting the clean-lined appeal of the classic wrap ...
It’s OK, everyone, Kate Moss is here to save us from boring autumnal wardrobe dilemmas—and to give us a bit of an A-list style fix. During the pandemic there has been a distinct lack of celebrity outfits for us to have a look at but thankfully La Moss has come through when we need her the most. The model was spotted wearing an incredibly cool coat by Coach featuring the late artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work. This was paired with her trademark skinny black jeans and black jumper, then instead of flats, she opted for a pair of cowboy boots. All of this was finished off with a Chanel flap bag and a pair of classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers. If I opened your denim drawer right now, I bet I could guess some of the key silhouettes stored inside—straight-leg jeans, skinnies, and perhaps even an of-the-moment outlier like those “grandpa” cuts. But what’s one style that probably hasn’t surfaced to the top of the pile as much as of late? Flares. Sure, cropped flares have been well, cropping up, over the last few years, but the more polarising bootcut and bell-bottom styles (aka anti–skinny jeans) haven’t been as popular again until recently. That’s right, designers from Celine to Paco Rabanne reintroduced fresh flared jeans in their S/S 2020 collections as the next It denim pick for the forward set. And fun fact, celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Margot Robbie, andHarry Styles have already been following suit in ’70s-ins...
