It’s no secret that activewear can—and frankly, should—be worn outside of the gym. The eternal ease of perfect-fit leggings and a non-wired bra is reason alone, but for me, it isn’t just a case for comfort. It’s an argument for style. Some of the world’s best dressed are those that embrace athleisure in their everyday wardrobes. Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, Rihanna and Ashley Graham (to name a few) are amongst those that are often captured on the streets sporting their gym kit. Arguably, this aesthetic was popularised by Princess Diana and her now-iconic oversized sweater and cycling shorts, which she’d wear to and from the gym. But let’s make one thing abundantly clear: I’m not just talking post-workout wear. I’m suggesting actively selecting activewear as a choice of dress, rega...
If the snow outside is anything to go by, cashmere season is well and truly upon us and I for one am here for it. Traditionally, when shopping for the best cashmere jumpers, you would have to head to some pretty expensive designer brands, but thankfully today the choice is endless. From high street to high end, there’s a cashmere jumper to suit every style and budget this year. Think bright colours, winter whites, boxy silhouettes, puff sleeve details and of course stripes. Whatever cashmere you’re in search of, I can almost promise it is in my edit below. But why is it that everyone from editors to celebs, stylists to influencers and grandmas to 20-somethings love cashmere? For me, a cashmere jumper is up there as one of my mos...
As much as I love scrolling and saving endless nail art ideas on Instagram and Tik Tok, I’ll admit that when it comes to my own manicure, I’m a one block colour kinda gal. So when I was tasked with putting my investigative beauty journalism hat on to find the nail colours that will be everywhere in 2023, it was a thumbs up from me—both featuring a fresh coat of Chanel Rouge Noir polish, naturally. My first port of call was hitting up pro nail artist Alyx Lippiatt, whose aesthetically clean-and-cool-girl manis have graced the likes of Lauren Silverman and Jamilla Wyatt. “The metallics we are currently seeing everywhere in fashion will carry on through to next year in the form of solid chrome nails rather than the more subtle glazed look,” Lippiatt explains. “I also think...
My sartorial needs right now are simple: to be warm and comfortable. So that means nothing is coming between me and my jumpers at the moment. Still, after pulling on my favourite cream cable-knit jumper for what feels like (and probably is) the 500th day in a row, I’m in need of some fresh inspiration on how to style it as we head into spring. Okay, I know what you’re thinking. Jumper-and-trouser outfits are hardly groundbreaking—they’re one of the most basic combinations out there. But aren’t the simplest things always the most effective? I certainly think so. Putting jeans, leggings and joggers to one side, I was keen to discover how fashion people are assembling their jumper-and-trouser outfits for spring in an attempt to make my own ensembles more polished (though no less com...
One of the best things about entering into a new season is new season shopping, and new shopping means the potential for some great new outfits. There’s nothing I love more than putting together fresh looks with some of the high street’s very best pieces, and as a stylist turned shopping editor, it combines two of my favourite things–assembling outfits and getting to share with them you, dear reader. And may I say, this winter has outdone itself as being one of the most inspiring yet. From the year’s unexpected smash hit–the balaclava, to the boots we’ll inevitably be wearing for many more winters to come, this season has given us a lot of notable moments, and it just so happens that you can shop them all at CO...
Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills was the artist behind the sound of Dior’s Fall 2023 runway show soundtrack. Affectionately known as “The Wizard,” Mills partnered with fashion designer Kim Jones for the science fiction-influenced collection. The Dior show, which went down Sunday, December 4th, was aptly titled “Celestial.” Flaunting bright, futuristic and otherworldly fashion in front of the Pyramids of Giza, the runway could’ve easily been a Cercle show. Throughout the show, Mills’ tracks “Step To Enchantment,” “Gamma Player,” “Microbe” and “Daphnis (Keeler’s Gap)” accompanied the flashy walks. Jones mentioned that techno is a perfect complementary genre for the elements of the 75-piece as...
The bodycare category has been booming since the pandemic, but now it’s evolving beyond a ‘skincare-as-selfcare’ mindset, and into something much more functional and targeted. Traditionally the preserve of ‘medical’ over-the-counter brands, previously ‘taboo’ concerns such as body acne, keratosis pilaris (chicken skin), dermatitis, and pubic care will be tackled head-on and given the same treatment that facial skincare concerns have been getting for years. “I think the interesting thing with this movement is that it’s been completely bottom-up,” says culture and trends analyst Alex Bee. “Built on the foundation of ‘body positivity’, which has now, quite rightly, morphed into body acceptance, consumers themselves have been demanding that brands start to talk openly about t...
If I were to sum up fashion at the moment it would be nostalgic. Since the large fashion houses began sorting through their archives to revive long-forgotten silhouettes and icon pieces (think the Prada Re-Nylon or the Fendi baguette) the fashion scene has been looking back for the trends of tomorrow. In terms of clothing, we’ve watched the the cargo pant revival, trending corset tops and even oversized silhouettes come back into style that are all reminiscent of 90s and 00s style. Evidently, footwear got the memo, leading the shoes of the moment to be “old” styles, notably the return of ballet flats, riding boots and leggings, and even kitten heels. In the trainer world, brands have looked even further back to reissue decades-old gems that are returning, reinvented, to join...

Last year, I spent more time than I’m willing to be honest with myself about thinking about Totême’s draped fringed wool jacket. You know the one—the versatile cover-up with the slightly oversize silhouette, contrast whip-stitched edging and chic, built-in scarf. The one snapped up by so many stylish types, including Monikh Dale, Anouk Yve, and Jessica Skye. For months, I deliberated about purchasing it for myself. Initially, I wanted to analyse how much wear I would get out of it—I don’t buy anything unless I can picture myself wearing it constantly. Once I had confirmed that it would work well with my existing wardrobe, and just as I was about to add it to my basket, Totême unveiled a new colour to consider. It hadn’t occurred to me that I needed anything other than the black iteration. ...
As far as celebrities go, Olivia Wilde is one that we always look to for denim inspiration. She wears jeans a lot—even on the red carpet from time to time. Flared, straight-leg, baggy, skinny—you name it and she’s worn it. But for a day out and about in Los Angeles earlier this week, Wilde wore a style that’s new for her, and it’s one that always comes back around: sailor jeans. Sailor jeans are basically high-waisted jeans that are fitted at the top and wide-leg toward the bottom. They often have details such as patch pockets, double buttons, and trouser hems, and they can very easily be dressed up or down. Like skinny jeans, they often have stretch in the denim, so if that’s what you love about skinny jeans but are ready for a change, perhaps W...
