Kate Middleton went to plenty of official state dinners at Buckingham Palace as the Duchess of Cambridge, but yesterday marked her first as Princess of Wales. And she certainly rose to the occasion. This particular banquet was for President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, and Middleton was a sight to behold in a white, cape-style dress by Jenny Packham (a favourite designer of hers for formal occasions), complete with pretty embellishment on the shoulders and neckline. The eye-catching sparkle didn’t stop there, as Middleton, who is said to have received much of Queen Elizabeth’s jewellery upon her passing, paired the dress with the pearl-adorned Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara and dangling pearl earrings, both of which once belon...
Anyone who works in fashion will tell you that a huge (and joyful) part of the job is giving shopping advice, whether that’s where to find the cosiest knitwear, the crème de la crème of coats or this season’s most wanted item. I often find myself dishing out shopping advice over dinner with friends, at family reunions or sometimes even to ladies I meet on the bus. Often, people will expect me to tell them the hot product of the moment (the trend du jour, if you will), but my advice is always the same: Invest in your capsule wardrobe with high-quality, timeless pieces. Thankfully, Ralph Lauren is offering 30% off selected pieces for Black Friday. The offer will run from 23 November until 28 November, and just to make it even more tempting, the brand is offering free shippin...
My top pick, however, has to be the brand’s Mason Pants. The perfect wide-leg trousers—and I don’t say that lightly. I’ve tried a lot of wide-legs in my time and these are the only pair I’ve actually invested in this year. They were so good, in fact, that I bought them in both beige and black, and now I’m rarely spotted without them. Unsurprisingly, they’re one of the brand’s best-selling hero products, and come in eleven colours as well as petite and extended sizing options. Made from unbelievably comfortable TENCEL™ Lyocell, a more sustainable fabric that also happens to fall perfectly, there’s no bulky pockets or unflattering pleats in sight. Kaia Gerber is also a fan—she was spotted wearing her brown pair to the farmer’s market in LA earlier this year. She’s right, they’re ...
Year in, year out, as autumn rolls around you can always guarantee two things–one, leather will always come back into fashion, and two, you will see me in knee high boots. Why? There’s a variety of reasons, but there’s something about the style of the long boot that instantly elevates any outfit. For that reason, knee-high boots are, hands down, my favourite boot silhouette, and although they’ve never officially been out of style, it seems like leather knee-high boots are one of the only styles that matter for autumn/winter 2022. As a stylist for over 10 years, I’ve dressed women of all ages, sizes and backgrounds. And something I often get told is that they think they’re ‘”too old” to wear something. My reply? Wear whatever makes you feel good. Because wearing what you love will instantly give you the confidence to pull off any look. With that being said, though, there are some particular trends that I always believe work on absolutely everyone, no matter your age. Party season is in full swing, so to give you a helping hand, I’ve found five timeless looks that are guaranteed to work for every upcoming occasion in your busy diary. Whether it’s a black dress—my mum in her 60s, myself in my 30s and even my niece who is 8 owns one of these—a jum...
Foundation is a very personal makeup preference for every person who wears it. Some prefer a lightweight coverage that gives the skin a subtle tint, whereas others may favour a full-coverage formula for a flawless finish. Your skin type can also have a big influence on what foundations work for you. Mattifying and oil-control formulas may be better suited to oily or acne-prone skin types, whereas dry skin types may fare better with hydrating and oil-based textures that nourish the skin as your wear them. The good news is that there are so many foundations out there, with many brands now offering a diverse range of shades to achieve a perfect match. The bad news is that it can be overwhelming to find a foundation that fits your needs and your budget and works with your s...
When the no-trouser trend appeared on the runway in September, I knew right away that it would be controversial and, therefore, a huge hit in fashion. Moreover, when brands such as Victoria Beckham, Bottega Veneta, and Khaite are the ones responsible, you know a trend has legs—pun intended. With none other than Kendall Jenner having just debuted the buzzed-about look that started it all, it appears my predictions were spot-on. Seen in L.A. between shoots for the luxury retailer Fwrd, where she’s creative director, Jenner wore a chunky navy-blue sweater with black briefs and heels—no trousers in sight. The bottomless ensemble came practically straight off Matthieu Blazy’s Bottega Veneta S/S 23 runway, be...
November proudly welcomes in the festive season with red wine and sequins—yes that’s exactly what I think of when the end of year countdown begins. I may no longer be a party girl in the going ‘out out’, wearing 6 inch platforms and ordering food at 3am way, but I will proudly be embracing all those joyfully, carefree looks in my own way this season. Think sequin trousers with long sleeved tees, sexy lingerie-style slips with masculine coats and silky bias cut midi skirts paired with oversized knits. This is my dressy/casual capsule and a working wardrobe of textures that will carry you through from your morning coffee to that evening glass of wine. All of these factors that make M&S great also mean it’s one of the best places to find expensive-looking pieces to help you build an elevated capsule wardrobe on a budget—something I think we’re all striving for right now. As proof, and to help you shop wisely as we head into winter, below I’ve pulled together four timeless cold-weather-ready outfits you can turn to again and again this season—entirely from M&S (although your friends might not believe you when you tell them that). Think smart layering options and versatile party looks to have on rotation. You may already own versions of the various elements at home to substitute in, so in that case all you need to do is bookmark this article for outfit inspo. But if you’re looking to add some ...
Whenever I’m in need of fresh outfit inspiration, there are a few places I always look, but one that never fails is the street style and posts of some of London’s best dressed. Always effortlessly cool but with firsthand understanding of the UK’s fluctuating weather, London women manage to toe the line between putting their own spin on timeless classics and setting new, unexpected trends, so where better to look to breathe new life into the humble pair of jeans than the streets of the capital? From Burnt Oak to Brixton, the trend du jour is the looser, straight-leg style for a menswear-inspired look (sorry, skinnies), and thanks to Instagram, I’ve found some particularly good ways to wear it. Whether you’re a denim devotee or a new con...
Celebrity hair colourist Justin Anderson (who tends to the hair colour of Jennifer Anniston and Margot Robbie) summed it up best when I asked him about his hair colour predictions for this season. “I think that hair colour should always suit you; it should suit your lifestyle and it should suit your skin tone,” he said. “Think: when you see someone walk out of a workout and their hair is just a beautiful, natural colour that suits them, even if they’re not wearing any makeup—that’s good hair colour. It just works with every part of your lifestyle.” And other hair colourists feel the same way. “Recently, I’ve noticed hair trends have shifted to more subtle seasonal themes, and now more than ever, clients are looking to make ...
Ever since I first discovered gel nails, I’ve been a loyal fan. However, there is something to be said for the fun and flexibility that nail polish can bring. Sure, it’s not as long-lasting as gel, but if you want to switch up your colours more often, then removing the varnish is much quicker and easier than taking off gels. And with so many trending nail designs to try, polish makes it easier to experiment. I’m giving my nails a break from gels at the moment, and I’ve been rummaging through my collection of nail polishes to get my nail colour fix. And I have to say not all nail polish brands are created equal. I want my nail polishes to be long-lasting with minimal chipping, and they need to dry pronto because I somehow always end up smudging t...
