I Just Tried On So Many Good Autumn Pieces at COS, Arket and & Other Stories

Stepping into an actual changing room still feels like a novelty after years of online shopping, so this month, to celebrate the reopening of shops, we are attempting a try-on-athon. We will be going into several changing rooms to road-test new autumn trends and give you our honest takes on the items that are actually worth investing in. On the high street, there are three stores that really excel when it comes to autumn dressing, and it’s no coincidence that they are all Scandinavian and have mastered the art of layering. I went into COS, Arket and & Other Stories to try on the new autumn collections and focused on easy-to-style staples that will make up a clever autumn capsule. I found an incredible trench coat, dresses you can wear now and later and so many beautiful card...

Controversial Fast Fashion Brand SHEIN Is Launching a YouTube Design Competition

China-based fast fashion retailer SHEIN is not shy of controversy. The brand known for cheap dupes of the latest fashion trends is launching a design competition series with YouTube. Airing on Sunday, 22 Aug., the SHEIN X 100K “Be Bold, Be You” challenge will be judged by a panel of Khloé Kardashian, Zendaya‘s stylist Law Roach, fashion designer Christian Siriano, LOVESEEN founder Jenna Lyons (previously creative director at J.Crew), and InStyle magazine’s style director Laurel Pantin. The SHEIN X 100K “Be Bold, Be You” challenge invites emerging designers to compete for $100,000 (£73,000) and a trip to LA for one-on-one mentorship with the judging panel. The Be Bold, Be You series features four episodes that will air weekly on Sundays from 22 Aug. to 12...

First rule of autumn? You can never go wrong with a pair of black boots. After all, they are the ultimate every-season shoe. From the cooler months to the festive season and well into spring and summer, a classic black boot is always in style. The amount of gorgeous black boots available online is literally endless, so we’ve narrowed down the best options by price and shape. We’re especially loving the offerings from cool mid-range brands Miista, Ganni, and Vince, while more affordable options from & Other Stories, Mango, and Urban Outfitters are simply gorgeous. Pr...

Hair Experts Predict These Will Be the Biggest Hair Trends for Autumn

While most of us are still desperately clinging to the final weeks of summer, industry experts have their sights firmly set on the season ahead as they make their predictions for the biggest autumn trends in the worlds of beauty and fashion. And with so many trending hairstyles emerging in 2021 already, I was particularly keen to find out what’s in store for our strands as we head into autumn.  “In summer, we all love to experiment with our hair, trying out different styles from braids to beachy waves and opting for shorter haircuts that are less maintenance,” says Callum Standen-May, creative stylist at Bond Shoreditch. “However, in autumn, some of us can find it difficult to find the right hairstyle or cut that wil...

Here’s How 8 Women Are Styling August’s Hero Buys

Here at Who What Wear, we love discovering a hero buy. You know, the kind of item that pops up on your feed over and over again, worn by people whose style you adore. I like to imagine the cult item with a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants vibe, appearing in one location and then another, styled in different ways on different people and looking chic all the same. This month, in particular, it feels as if two very specific hero buys have become virtually omnipresent online. The first is Arket’s Striped Cotton Jumper, which has become a choice staple for chic Londoners on days when the weather just won’t cooperate, and the second is Rixo’s Rickie Printed Shirt, which has been seen on those lucky enough to escape for some sun. While the two items are drastic...

I Love Zara, But These 8 Other Stores Are Just as Good

When shopping on a high-street budget, it’s all too easy to fall for the trend-smashing charms and regular arrivals at Zara. After all, we’re only human. The Spanish superbrand works fast and efficiently and never appears to miss a beat when it comes to the items we want in our wardrobes at any given moment. In many instances, Zara can be credited with setting retail trends that other affordable stores follow. (Remember when every brand scrambled to produce a loose-fitting polka-dot midi when that dress took off a couple of summers ago?) Right now, the store’s shoe collection is strong, and the vibrant colours are giving many of us the feels. But there are other shops that provide the same level of inspiration and excitement. If you want...

I Found My Perfect Pair of Jeans—Here Are 5 Ways I’m Styling Them for Autumn

I’ve often gravitated towards a more minimalist style, so my wardrobe consists of chic basics that I can rewear. While my style tends to vary based on my mood, I like wearing neutrals the most, as I find it easier to mix and match different styles together to dress a piece of clothing up or down. That said, the item I want to talk about today is white jeans. It can often be a divisive piece. For a long time, a lot of people have been frightened of wearing them, not least because they can get dirty quickly. They can also be off-putting because some are unsure of how to style them and believe they’re only good for the summer months. But I have one pair of white jeans, and they are so versatile and have taken me through each season. The straight fit from Nanushka is my i...

I’ve Been Recommending This £7 Sunscreen to Everyone I Know

As a beauty journalist and all-round beauty lover, I’m quite spoilt for choice when it comes to which skincare and makeup products I want to wear. But while I’m sure that some people enjoy mixing and matching the products in their daily rotation, I’m a creature of habit and tend to stick to formulas that I already know and love. However, when it comes to certain products, I’ve found that a little experimentation is key—SPF being one such example. Of course, I totally understand the importance of wearing sunscreen daily—and bang on about it constantly to friends and family—but I’ve had quite a journey finding an SPF that I truly love and is suitable for my skin tone. Because here’s the thing: As someone with dark skin...

I’ve Tried Everything From Milk Makeup, and These 15 Products Are the Best

When cool New York City–based beauty brand Milk Makeup landed in the UK back in January 2019, beauty editors—myself included—went into overdrive. Despite the fact that the brand only launched stateside in 2016, I felt like I’d already spent a lifetime begging my American friends to hit up Sephora on my behalf for my Milk Makeup fix. And I clearly wasn’t alone—Milk Makeup accumulated an incredible 17,000-person waiting list on Cult Beauty. Yes, this was one beauty brand that had some serious social media hype, and I was already obsessed. Milk Makeup is all about good ingredients, clean formulas and payoff that you can actually see. Every product is cruelty-free, paraben-free and 100% vegan. Many of its products come in the form of twist-up stic...

33 Game-Changing ’60s Fashion Trends We Still Love Today

If someone from the future were to take a peek inside of our wardrobes, they’d have a pretty hard time determining what year it is. This season alone, we’ve got wide-leg denim that looks as if it has come from the ’70s, ’90s accessories like chunky loafers and nylon bags, and statement-making ’80s puff sleeves all thrown together. However, if there’s one decade that quietly overarches them all, it’s the 1960s. Every season without fail, on and off the runway, some aspect of ’60s fashion is referenced. For example, for the past few winters, we saw loads of fashion people wearing white boots—a classic item from the era—as well as bold floral prints. But that’s not where the influence of ’60s fashion ends. It was a mom...

10 New-In Autumn Buys I Really Love This Week

As several stores shuttered over the past 12 months, the fashion industry faces huge challenges and strains that pose an inevitable threat to businesses. Many of us won’t be shopping in the same way right now, but even a like on Instagram or a message of support can provide a boost for these brands. I certainly don’t want anyone to feel like they have to buy more right now, but at the same time, after working in the fashion industry for nine years, I want to support the brands and pieces that I love and treasure. As an editor at Who What Wear, I typically spend a lot of time looking at new-in products, and so every week, I update this story with the pieces that have caught my eye and that really stand out. The weather this week has seen us all return to our knitwear and raincoa...
