Here at Who What Wear UK, we firmly believe that you don’t need to part with serious cash to get your hands on that perfect mood-lifting look, and with the high street offering up plenty of winning spring buys right now (thank you, Arket, Mango, H&M et al), giving your wardrobe a refresh just got a little bit easier. Add to this the fact that the high street is longer reserved for transient trends (and instead, developing its offering of time-tested staples) and you’ve got yourself a winning combo. Case in point: On our wish lists this month is everything from & Other Stories’ perfect stripe knit to COS’s dreamy t-shirt dress. Together, they make the ideal new season capsule. So much ...

Once again, Nike Air Max Day (aka 26 March) is almost upon us and frankly, there’s only one way to celebrate it in style. Buying a new pair of Air Max is an annual tradition at this point, so why should 2021 be any different? It shouldn’t, and we’re here to help. For those who don’t know, the Nike Air Max was designed by the American designer Tinker Hatfield in 1987, after he embarked on a trip to Paris and visited the Centre Pompidou for the first time. As explained by Sneaker Freaker, “Hatfield, who was trained as an architect, was taken by the building’s inside-out approach — with its structure wrapped around the building’s exterior. From this, came the idea to expose the inner workings of the shoe, and the visible Air window was born.” In...
Ever wondered whether a new beauty launch or trending product is truly worth the hype? If so, you’re in the right place. I Just Tried… is our beauty column where we test out everything from new formulations to cult classics to find out whether they’re really worth your money. Oh, and we’ll answer the most-searched-for questions so you don’t have even have to ask. It might seem like an unusual move for a woman who previously renounced makeup to launch her own beauty line, but Alicia Keys’s new brand is unlike any other. Lauded as an emo-beauty brand—that’s emotional beauty rather than a brand created for My Chemical Romance fans—Keys Soulcare bridges the gap between well-being and traditional beauty with a collection of skincare,&...
Since I started styling my textured hair more frequently and straightening it less often last year, there was something that I noticed about the curly advice out there: Curl gels kind of get a bad rap. Whenever I’d reach out to people for styling advice, they would recommend a curl cream to coax definition into my hair rather than a gel. Yes, using curl gels in the wrong way can lead to crispy, crunchy or stringy curls, but—trust me—adding a curl gel has been the best thing for my styling routine. For me, I like to use gels when I’m doing my braid- and twist-outs for any hope of getting definition into my thick, coily hair. And if you like to wash and go, then you can actually apply most curl gels to wet hair and work them throug...
With its pared-back nonchalance and minimalist silhouettes, The Frankie Shop isn’t one of those brands that fights for attention on the feeds of Instagram’s best-dressed. In typical French fashion, it’s a brand that somehow managed to garner a cult-like status without having to really try that hard, which is no mean feat in a digitalised fashion landscape that fights tooth and nail for those much-coveted clicks. Yet, once you’ve clocked the brand, you start to see it everywhere you go: An oversized blazer thrown over a pair of straight-leg jeans, a colour-pop tracksuit paired with velcro sandals or a clever cutout knit rubbing shoulders with a chunky chain necklace. Its success lies in its subtlety, but these pieces...

As I wait for my own pair of Favourite jeans to arrive, I have a few initial observations to talk you through. This goes out to all mainstream brands: I’d love to see more size options when it comes to denim (and everything else, of course). Jeans from & Other Stories start at 24 and end at 32. Per the size guide, the 32 should fit someone between a UK 16 or 18. However, in my experience, owing to my curvy frame, I almost always have to size up. And I know many women are the same. As for the aesthetic of & Other Stories’ jeans, honestly, I think they’re currently unrivalled. They look the authentic-vintage part, which is very difficult to achieve, and I know the cuts won’t date in a hurry (unlike those heavily frayed hems we all invested in in 2016). I...
Who did the PR for banana bread and stretchy waistbands this year? Because honestly, they’re the real winners when it comes to the pandemic. A year (!) into working from home, not only have I perfected my banana bread recipe but stretchy waistbands and I are very well acquainted. In fact, I’ve become so reliant on softer clothes that I’ve been wondering how my new wardrobe will work when we re-enter the more sociable world. There’s one item in particular that I’m reluctant to stop wearing, and that’s the perfect pair of grey joggers. Being an inventive fashion journalist, I’ve got the solution: Make them work with outfits that are also great for other activities that don’t involve anything to do with baking or sitting at a computer. When I bo...
It’s almost impossible to realise an aesthetic movement is being born — or reborn — when you are in the eye of a cultural storm. The pandemic is undoubtedly one of the most pivotal historic moments that we will have witnessed in our lifetime. The reflections that many of us have experienced while being isolated in our homes have inspired a longing to return to nature, a renewed appreciation in the therapy of making things by hand, and a criticism for fast fashion and the pace of the internet. The handcrafted trend is about to define the fashion and lifestyle of our generation. Taking inspiration from the arts and crafts movement of the late 19th century and 1960s subcultures, we look at the fashion trends that are responding to work-from-home culture, environmentalism, and antiracism...
I don’t want to bore you to tears with yet another “staple” to have in your wardrobe but I can’t talk about great versatile pieces without mentioning the striped shirt. Usually discarded in favour of the classic white version or a Breton, this top meets somewhere in the middle. I think people are often put off by it because it can appear quite corporate—unless that’s the vibe you’re going for of course. But I want to change your mind on that front and convince you that the striped shirt is actually very effortless and far more versatile than you realise. Whatever time of year it is, we all crave that “just got back from holiday” glow, don’t we? Whether it’s not having to wear as much make-up or simply just feeling like our best selves, the benefits of having a freshly bronzed glow can’t be underestimated. At this point, we’ve made it through winter and would normally be starting to get some rays of vitamin D again—but what if the spring sunshine has yet to emerge from winter retirement or, oh I don’t know, you’ve spent the best part of the last 12 months inside? We must, then, get resourceful—and that’s where tanning drops come in. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be.
