The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is currently shopping for $1 billion to revamp Nigeria’s biggest refinery located in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. To realise its plans, the nation’s oil company is already in high-level discussion to raise the money via a prepayment deal with trading firms. If the financing is successful, the long overdue rehabilitation of the refinery should reduce Nigeria’s hefty fuel import bill. It would also mark Nigeria’s second oil-backed financing since the COVID-19 pandemic that has added to the difficulty of finding investors as fuel demand is sapped by lockdowns and renewable energy is gaining ground over fossil fuels. The money would be repaid over seven years through deliveries of Nigerian crude and products from the refinery once the refurbis...

After Twitter Suspended His Account, Facebook Is Indefinitely Banning Donald Trump From Posting

Source: SOPA Images / Getty After all of the racist and outright crazy sh*t that he has said on Twitter that many have warned would eventually lead to yesterday’s bootleg coup, social media companies have said enough. With only 14 days remaining in his nightmare term, Donald Trump, who has been pushing the norms to the limit, has finally done something that both Democrats and a sizeable number of Republicans can agree was absolutely crazy. Why Access to Technology is Critical for Farmers in Africa

The African continent is home to an estimated 65% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, an abundance of fresh water and about 300 days of sunshine each year, according to the World Economic Forum. However, the reality is that the agriculture industry is mostly made up of the older African generation — who often discourage their children from working with the land.  So despite seemingly ideal farming conditions, African nations spend close to $65 billion importing food — a number that is expected to grow exponentially within the next decade.  The African Development Bank (ABD) believes that this is unsustainable and unaffordable — noting that the secret to the continent’s economic viability and growth is to equip farmers, as well as the next-generation, with training, advice an...

The Lagos State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party has advised Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to strive hard to provide satisfactory dividends of democracy to residents of the state in 2021. The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos, while assessing Sanwo-Olu’s performance in 2020. “As a constructive opposition party, the year 2020 was not satisfactory in terms of dividends of democracy to Lagos residents. “Most of the local council chairmen performed below average, Sanwo-Olu should look into that because the chairmen are putting too much pain on the people due to their abdication of duties. “We are indeed very anxious to take over government as an opposition party in Lagos,” Gani said.
