Police nab eight suspects for rape, sodomy in Kebbi

The Police Command in Kebbi has arrested seven suspected rapists and one for sodomy in the state. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Agunbiade Oluyemi-Lasore, made this known while briefing newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. Oluyemi-Lasore, said that the arrests were made from May to June, adding that the period under review was challenging and eventful for the command. The police Commissioner said that in spite of the daunting challenges, the command was able to crack most of criminal syndicates terrorising the state and made quite a number of arrests. AGF Malami: Inmates on death row may get life

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), said on Tuesday that the Federal Government was planning a process of commuting the death penalty of condemned inmates with over 10 years on death row to life imprisonment. Malami who said this in Abuja at a press briefing on the achievements of the Presidential Committee on Correctional Service Reform and Decongestion, also said inmates awaiting trial for upwards of five years might be released. But he said considering the increasing number of incidents of sexual and kidnap cases, inmates who had been convicted for such offences would not be considered for release during the proposed exercise. EFCC: Court dismisses charges, acquits ex-NMA chairman, others

Justice Efe Ikponwonba of Edo State High Court sitting in Benin City, yesterday, dismissed the charges brought against former Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, Dr. Emmanuel Ighodaro, and two other executive members by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). Rivers State Governor and Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council for Edo Governorship Election, Nyesom Wike, has said the statement credited to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, that he (Wike) will be quarantined, was an admission of the plot by the party to use security forces to rig the Edo State election come September 19. Nigerian government frees 7,813 inmates in 18 states, FCT

The Federal Government, on Tuesday, said it has released a total of 7, 813 inmates from various Correctional Centers since the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Abuja, said FG took the decision so as to curb the spread of the virus among inmates. Malami said the Federal Executive Council had earlier in 2017, passed a resolution that directed the Federal Ministry of Justice to put in place measures to fast track the decongestion of Correctional Centres nationwide. Man sentenced to death by hanging for murder

File Photo An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile Ife has sentenced a 37-years old man, Oluleke Ogunyemi to death by hanging for alleged murder. Ogunyemi was said to have killed one Moshood Babalola on 17th of February 2010 at about 10am at a village called Agbedegbede in Ile Ife, Osun State. Ogunyemi was arraigned on 6th March, 2013 on two counts charge murder and conspiracy to murder an ofgence contrary to section 319 and 324 criminal Code Laws cap 34, Laws of Osun State. Google Rolls Out Dark Mode on G Suite Apps

According to the company, the new theme will “intelligently adjust the product interface and user-generated content in ways that can make it more usable in low-light environments and save battery life”. The new theme, which is expected to roll out to all users within the next two weeks, will come about automatically for users who’s Android system is already set to use dark mode.
