White House organizes harassment of Twitter employee over fact-checking of Donald Trump’s tweets

The White House has set its sights on a single Twitter employee after the company attached a fact-checking link to two of the president’s tweets containing lies and misinformation related to voter fraud. The charge was led on Fox News Wednesday morning, with Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway targeting Twitter’s head of site integrity, Yoel Roth, after digging up some tweets that were critical of Trump, Conway, and the administration. Conway called the employee “horrible” and directed listeners to go after him. “Somebody in San Francisco go wake him up and tell him he’s about to get a lot more followers,” she said on air. Immediately, the call was picked up by right-wing personalities and Trump supporters, who began sharing screenshots of the employee’s tweets. Roth is already facing a torrent...

Arsenal sanction sensational Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang swap deal

Arsenal have been linked with a sensational swap deal involving Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, while Mikel Arteta is intent on signing Philippe Coutinho, all in the Euro papers. Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal will let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in a swap deal for Ousmane Dembele. Barca are willing to cut their losses on Dembele this summer and sell the forward for €50m, while the LaLiga club’s interest in Aubameyang is well documented. The Gabon striker’s contract expires next summer and Arsenal do not want to lose him for free and so are considering an exchange deal for Dembele. Arsenal have been tracking the injury-hit Dembele for some time and Mikel Arteta wants to get the former Borussia Dortmund man a chance in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Spanish outlet ...

Ademola Lookman concedes penalty as Hertha Berlin hold Leipzig

Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg was sent off for two bookable offences midway through the second half. Leipzig took the lead for the first time in the game when Patrick Schick fired home in the 68th minute following a howler from Hertha goalkeeper Rune Jarstein. Hertha made the numerical advantage count as Matheus Cunha was brought down in the box by Ademola Lookman, allowing Krzysztof Piatek to equalise eight minutes from time. Cashless and Contactless Payments Beyond COVID-19

The emergence of COVID-19 has made the need for digitising payments more critical than ever before and for this to be a success, electronic payments need to offer similar benefits to those afforded by cash. Globally, economies are in various stages of development having either started developing, replaced or are busy replacing daily batch payment systems with real-time systems that execute payments in seconds with the flexibility to meet the needs of the future digital economy. The drive towards digital payments and lowering the reliance on cash is not new to South Africa’s payments market. There are several mechanisms already in place to enable this and banks, card companies, fintechs and retailers are all involved in rolling out digital, non-touch payment mechanisms. Contactless cards us...

Use of Cloud Collaboration Tools Surge Across the World and So Do Attacks

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed companies to adapt to new government-mandated restrictions on workforce movement around the world. The immediate response has been a rapid adoption and integration of cloud services, particularly cloud-based tools such as Microsoft Office 365, Slack and other video conferencing platforms like Zoom. A new report by security firm McAfee shows that hackers are responding to this mass migration to these platforms with an increased focus on abusing cloud account credentials. After analyzing cloud usage data that was collected between January and April, from over 30-million enterprise users of its MVISION cloud security monitoring platform, the company estimates a 50% growth in adoption of cloud services across all industries. Some industries, however, saw a much...

Twitter Labels President Trump’s “Potentially Misleading” Tweets

Image sourced from Al Jazeera Twitter said Tuesday that it added a label to the United States (US) President Donald Trump’s tweets for containing “potentially misleading information about voting processes,” a rare move that shows the social media company is taking a tougher stance against misinformation. Twitter reserves these labels for tweets that contain information flagged by the website as false. It’s the first time that Twitter has displayed such a label on one of Trump’s tweets. That same Tuesday, Trump tweeted “There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-in-Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent,” a claim that has been debunked by fact-checkers and news organizations. He continues his remarks in another tweet, stating that it will be a “rigged election.” Mail-in-Ballots ...

7 Techniques Cybercriminals Could Use to Steal Your Private Data

Cyber threats do not rest and they continue to evolve as bad actors develop new attack techniques. Good cybersecurity hygiene requires more than a strong password to avoid compromise. The most important thing is to know how exactly cybercriminals may attempt to gain access to your data. Here are seven techniques they might try: Password Spraying: A form of brute force attack that targets multiple accounts in which adversaries try multiple guesses of the password on a single account that often leads to account lockout. With password spraying, the adversary only tries a few of the most common passwords against multiple user accounts, trying to identify that one person who is using a default or easy-to-guess password and thus avoiding the account lockout scenario. Key logging attack: By insta...

No masking it: Joe Biden eyes stark contrast with Donald Trump over virus

Joe Biden squared off with Donald Trump on Tuesday over the wearing of masks one day after the White House challenger emerged from coronavirus-imposed lockdown donning one while the president attended two events bare-faced. By wearing a mask at a Memorial Day ceremony in Delaware — and by changing his Twitter profile to a photograph of him donning the black covering — Biden signalled he is putting the coronavirus front and center during the US presidential race in a nation increasingly divided over the pandemic. After the president mocked him for his protective mask, Biden hit back, blasting Trump as an “absolute fool.” It appeared to mark a new front in the war of words between the rival politicians. Trump also attended a somber Monday ceremony honoring America’s fallen, in Baltimore. Ins...

Aminu Zang: I’ll unite with Senators Jang, Useni, Mantu for PDP victory in 2023

A candidate for the Chairmanship of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Hon Aminu Zang, has said that he would reconcile all aggrieved factions and unite with Senator Jonah David Jang, Gen Jeremiah Useni (retd) and former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu to bring the party back to power in 2023. Zang described himself as a neutral force who desires to lead the party to power if entrusted with its leadership. The aspirant stated this yesterday during a briefing with reporters in Jos, adding that Jang and Useni remain a strong political block that must be united to give Plateau people a purposeful leadership. ‘Primarily, I came to contest the Chairmanship of the PDP because I have all it takes to unify the party as it were; take it or not, there are feuding interests a...

South Korea’s unification minister visits estuary to renew commitment to inter-Korean cooperation

Unification Minister Kim Yeon-chul is to visit an estuary of the Han River near the border with North Korea on Wednesday in an effort to renew South Korea’s commitment to jointly using the waterway with the communist nation. Under a military agreement signed at a 2018 summit between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, the two sides agreed on the joint use of the Han River estuary along their western border and conducted joint waterway research. But the project has stalled since the no-deal summit between the North and the United States in February last year. The unification minister’s visit to the estuary is seen as aimed at sending a message to the North that it remains committed to the project. “The visit has been arranged so that (the minister) can see for himself...
