Report: Leicester looking at experienced PL ace to replace £50m-rated first team star

Leicester City are looking at Ryan Bertrand as a potential replacement for Ben Chilwell. The 30-year-old has just one year left on his deal at Southampton and Brendan Rodgers is keen on snapping him up for cheap as per Daily Mail. Ben Chilwell has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer and he is likely to fetch around £50m. Bertrand would be a decent replacement in the short term but Leicester should really look to aim higher. They could be in the Champions League next season and they will need better full backs than the 30-year-old. Bertrand could be a solid back up option for a club playing in the Champions League. It will be interesting to see if the Foxes manage to sign him. Southampton do not want to sell him and they are looking to tie him down to a new deal. Leicester will h...

‘Would be incredible’, ‘Make it happen’ – Some Spurs fans react to Mourinho’s interest in £50m star

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi. The player is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund and he has been excellent for them. Hakimi is expected to develop into one of the best right-backs in the world and he would be a tremendous addition to Mourinho’s defence. We covered reports yesterday that Spurs have made enquiries for the player. However, the move seems quite unlikely. It would be a massive surprise if Real Madrid let him leave permanently. Hakimi is the future replacement for Carvajal and Zidane will not want to cash in on him. It will be interesting to see if Spurs submit an offer for the player in the coming weeks. The Londoners are expected to have a limited transfer budget this summer and there is no way they can tempt Real Madrid w...

Director wants to ‘find a solution’ regarding reported £27m Everton target

Lyon sporting director Juninho has said that talks over the future of reported Everton target Memphis Depay have started, as quoted in Goal.com. Depay, who has been on the sidelines since December due to a serious knee injury, is out of contract at Lyon in the summer of 2021. According to Calciomercato.com, Everton and AC Milan are interested in signing the former Manchester United forward this summer. The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that French club Lyon value the Netherlands international at €30 million (£26.77 million). Lyon sporting director Juninho has raved about Depay, and he has said that talks over an extension to his contract have started. Goal.com quotes Juninho as saying: ”When you lose a big star due to injury a year and a half from the end of his contract, i...

Report: Rangers working on two deals for strikers ahead of summer transfer

According to The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell, Rangers are working on two deals for young strikers as manager Steven Gerrard looks to boost his squad for next season’s challenge. While the duo are expected to play a role in the senior team if signed, Rangers also want them to be a part of the development squad too. Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes remains on the Light Blues’ radar, but there has been no approach to his club, and it will be interesting to see what happens going forward with Celtic also keeping tabs on the Australian. Florian Kamberi could also be looked following his impressive loan spell, but other clubs are interested in him and have inquired about his services to Hibs. Rangers have made two first-team signings thus far, with Ianis Hagi making his loan move permanent while C...

Noel Whelan reckons 23-yr-old PL attacker could be ‘an option’ for Leeds this summer

Noel Whelan believes Che Adams could be an option for Leeds United this summer. The Whites tried to sign him in January but the deal collapsed at the last minute. Since then, Adams has not had too much game time at Southampton and he could be available for transfer. As per Football Insider, the Premier League club could sell the 23-year-old for a fee of around £10m. Leeds will need to improve their attacking options if they secure promotion this summer. They cannot rely on Bamford to deliver every week. Che Adams could prove to be a decent signing for Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Whelan claims that Leeds are aware of the fact that Adams could be signed for cheap this summer and he is an option for them. He said to Football Insider: “He has not had too many opportunities at Southampton. “Before w...

Report: Agents ‘trying to convince’ Spurs and Chelsea to sign £80m player

Barcelona are desperate to offload Philippe Coutinho in the summer. Despite scoring 21 goals in 76 matches since joining the club from Liverpool for a reported transfer fee of around £142m, Barcelona feel they’ve seen enough of him. The Brazilian joined Bayern Munich on loan where he duly impressed. However, despite scoring nine goals and providing seven assists, Bayern are unwilling to sign him permanently. Barcelona just want to get rid of him, and they are willing to lower their asking price to £80m. Even then, it’s a huge amount, and especially with the global economic situation affecting football finances, no clubs would be willing to pay that amount. And that leaves Barcelona in a spot of bother. Coutinho has attracted interest from the Premier League, with the likes of Che...

‘Final stage of the process’: Caulkin provides exciting update on potential NUFC takeover and timescale

In the latest ‘Pod on the Tyne’ podcast, The Athletic journalists George Caulkin and Chris Waugh have taken a lot of questions from the Newcastle fans, and most of them are related to the takeover. Caulkin, who is undoubtedly one of the best journalists around covering Northern football, has been providing regular updates on the takeover saga, either in the form of articles or on social networking site Twitter. He has been constantly in touch with both parties, the selling and the buying sides, but has admitted that it is frustrating. Caulkin admits that he is still very positive that the deal will go through but at the same time has refused to put a time scale on it. I think that’s unlikely. They’ll have wasted a lot of time and money. From what I’m told there’s a determination to see it ...

Report shares four questions EPL lawyers want PIF to answer before approving NUFC takeover

According to The Sun, the English Premier League’s legal team have tabled a series of questions for Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund to answer before a decision is made on their Newcastle United £300 million takeover bid. Passing the top-flight’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test is the only hurdle currently stopping the PIF from owning the St. James’ Park outfit, and they have been asked about the piracy claims linking them with beoutQ. Qatar’s beIN Sport insists that Saudi is behind the pirate satellite station, estimating it has cost them one billion US dollars in lost subscriptions, lost advertising revenue, legal fees and technical reports. The Premier League also have concerns over the Saudis human rights records and have asked about their role in the murder of dissident journalist Ja...

Chris Sutton’s four-word reaction as Edouard is named Celtic POTY

French striker Odsonne Edouard has been named as the Celtic Player of the Year for 2019-20 following an impressive individual campaign. The 22-year-old ended the season with 28 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, beating Fraser Forster, Christopher Jullien, Scott Brown, Ryan Christie, Kristoffer Ajer, Callum McGregor, James Forrest, Olivier Ntcham and Jeremie Frimpong to the prize. Edouard’s impressive campaign has caught the eyes of several Premier League clubs, but Celtic are hoping they can have him around for next season’s 10-in-a-row bid following the huge role he played in helping them land a ninth consecutive Scottish Premiership title. Hoops legend Chris Sutton has reacted to the Frenchman emerging as Celtic POTY thus on Twitter: No surprise… outstanding player&#x...

Report: Everton favourites to sign €25m-rated target, Toffees readying a bid for player

Everton remain interested in signing the French defender Jean-Clair Todibo. According to Sport (via Sportwitness), Barcelona want to sell the player this month and the Toffees are preparing an offer of around €20-22m plus variables. Apparently, the Spanish outfit are holding out for a fee of around €25m. In that case, an agreement should be reached soon. It seems unlikely that the move would collapse over a difference of €3-5m. The report adds that Everton are favourites to sign the player this summer. Everton could definitely use more defensive depth next season and Todibo is a top class talent. He has impressed during his loan spell at Schalke this season. The Frenchman is unlikely to get first team action at Barcelona next season and therefore a move to Everton would make sense. He need...

Report: Wolves looking to sign 28-yr-old attacker, talks already underway

Wolves are interested in signing the Espanyol forward Wu Lei. According to Marca, the player will be out of contract in December and the Premier League club are already in talks to sign him. It will be interesting to see if Lei joins them in the summer. Alternatively, he could wait until he is a free agent. Either way, Wolves are unlikely to have to spend a lot on him. The 28-year-old will add depth to Nuno’s side next season if Wolves manage to sign him this summer. He can play as the forward or in the wide areas. The Chinese international has four goals to his name this season. Lei is a good finisher and he could be the back up for Jimenez/Jota when needed. Wolves need to add more depth to their squad if they want to challenge for Champions League football. Also, they will need a bigger ...

Report claims when Premier League verdict on Newcastle takeover could finally be delivered

According to The Sun, the English Premier League won’t deliver a verdict on Newcastle United £300 million takeover until after the formal publication of the World Trade Organization of Qatar’s allegations of intellectual property breaches against Saudi Arabia. That is due in the next fortnight, and Newcastle fans will have to wait for at least two more weeks to know their fate as the saga continues. The WTO has ruled that the Kingdom is indeed behind beoutQ – a pirate pay-television broadcaster that simulcasts the programming of Qatar-based broadcaster beIN Sports – and has already submitted a 123-page report to the Premier League. The EPL legal team have continued to peruse the report, and its why the would-be Magpies owners are yet to pass the Owners’ and Directors’ Test. They have also ...
