If you’re in the market for a new Alfa Romeo Giulia or Stelvio, we’ve got some good news. For 2021, Alfa Romeo revealed a mild restructuring of both trims and standard content across the range, with new colors thrown in for good measure. Let’s take a look. Where before there were seven disparate trims for both the Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV, there are now only four, with the base-level trim evocatively renamed “Sprint” for both; the Sport and Ti Lusso trims have been axed from the hierarchy. Aside from Sprint, buyers have the choice of Ti, Ti Sport, and 505-hp Quadrifoglio iterations on both the crossover and sedan. If you slide into a Stelvio Ti or Giulia Ti, you’ll find a standard dual-pane sunroof and 8.8-inch infotainment display. The Ti Sport...
The typical entanglement of tuner cars and the police involves Fast & Furious impersonators modifying cars to outrun other street racers and the cops, but who get caught anyway and go to jail for doing illegal stuff on the public roads. Today we stand witness to the exception to the normal tuner car-police relationship. This AC Schnitzer-tuned BMW M850i makes more than 600 horsepower but isn’t for outrunning the German Polizei—it’s actually for the German Polizei. The modded 8-Series is part of a German campaign called “TUNE IT! SAFE!” Essentially, the German police and AC Schnitzer want to encourage drivers of all sorts to customize their rides while being safe and respecting the rules of the road. The campaign has been around since 2005, and for 2020 AC S...
When you look at a machine like this and find out it’s the result of a risky, hare-brained business decision, you know you’re hanging with passionate car guys. That’s the ethos that drives Michael Hunt and Lee Clayton, the owners of TredWear. Their business revolves around permanent tire graphics that can be applied to any tire to dress them up. The best way in the automotive world to display your product is to build cool cars that embody the spirit of what you’re selling, so that’s what they’ve been doing, and as it turns out, this hare-brained idea is actually pretty business savvy. TredWear’s last creation, the “Tarantula,” was featured in the July 2018 issue of HOT ROD magazine and debuted on the 2017 HOT ROD Power Tour. The 1939 Ch...
When did you set up your own company? I worked with Threads for two and a half years, and then I set up my own company afterwards. I was ready for something different and to do something on my own. I wanted it to be boutique, small and bespoke. We do full wardrobe refreshes and then we also create seasonal wardrobes for our clients, do styling edits and source any pieces they are after. We also resell our clients’ pieces, so that we are also circulating that fashion. It’s amazing to be able to offer that service so we can take pieces off their hands, and then we put a small percentage to charity. Have you learned a lot about your own style by clearing other people’s wardrobes? ‘Oh my gosh! I did not have style at all—if you saw my photos in college it is hilarious. I also didn’...
There are few things I love more than scrolling through Instagram, spotting a chic outfit on a stylish woman and then realising the look is actually affordable. Whether it be high-street, vintage or from an independent brand, there’s something so satisfying about knowing an outfit looks luxe and expensive, yet is totally within reach. This phenomenon has happened to me a few times recently, only to discover the outfits in question were from Mango. From check blazers to leather trousers and of course, an abundance of sleek tailored coats, Mango truly excels in quality designs that look much more expensive than they are. And between Sylvie Mus, Marianne of Smyth Sisters and Yoyo Cao, so many of the chic women I follow also tend to agree. Whether you’re on th...
Outwardly, nothing about this Ferrari 458 Speciale is amiss. It is the incredibly desirable, high-performance, and lightweight predecessor to the 488 Pista and whatever insane(r) performance variant Maranello has cooking up for today’s F8 Tributo. However, if you were to, say, try shooting at this specific 458 Speciale with the intent of harming its occupants (and you’re not packing, say, a rocket launcher), you might be surprised when the mid-engine supercar shrugs off the attack. That’s because the red Ferrari pictured here is armored. See all 8 photos Why on earth would anyone armor a lightweight sports car? Doesn’t that kind of defeat the whole point of a lightweight sports car? Aren’t there plenty of Chevy Suburbans and other huge SUVs laying around for p...
If hydrogen fuel cell cars are your thing, there are a lot of good reasons to buy the all-new 2021 Toyota Mirai over the outgoing model. Now that Toyota has announced pricing, you have almost 10,000 more. The 2021 Toyota Mirai XLE starts at $50,495, which is almost $10,000 less than its forebear. Toyota has also added a second model to the Mirai line, the Limited, which features upgraded interior trim, rear-seat climate control, a panoramic moonroof, and a few other odds and ends, and lists for $66,995. See all 20 photos Regardless of trim, every 2021 Mirai includes complimentary maintenance for three years or 35,000 miles, as well as $15,000 or three years’ worth of hydrogen fuel, whichever you burn through first. Mirai drivers also get 21 days of free car rentals should they need t...
Once a market solely dominated by a certain multinational Swedish brand, the world of affordable interiors is one that has blown up over the last few years, in no small part thanks to the aesthetic aspirations of Instagram. Suddenly, the average person’s living space has the potential to accrue them followers in their thousands, and in turn, put them on the map in a way that only interior magazines could do in the past. High-street brands have wholeheartedly jumped on the interiors bandwagon—think H&M, Zara and French Connection Home—in order to provide style-conscious millennials with a way to beautify their homes without the four-figure price tag. Other smaller offerings, such as Rose & Grey and Audenza, have also followed, and now c...
Oh boy has 2020 been the year we’ve all done a lot of thinking. There’s nothing quite like a pandemic to really make you reassess a few things. Some of us embraced a simpler way of life, curtailed our shopping habits, and left our fancy dresses to languish in the back of our wardrobes, and decided that therapy came in the form of baking banana bread while watching the latest most-talked-about show on Netflix. There’s also nothing like a pandemic to make you feel a little nostalgic. Fashion has a tendency to look backwards and draw from previous decades’ styles and this year has drawn me towards various older trends from the ’60s to the ’70s and up to the ’90s. Data from places such as Vestiaire Collective and Depop proved that older trend...
I sealed the deal this week when I sent back a faulty puffer coat to its original home. I’m just not a sensible outfit kind of person, and it simply wasn’t meant to be. I didn’t want to reorder another one, I didn’t want to find something similar and I didn’t care to consider the reality that the rest of my winter wardrobe is highly impractical for the weather and lifestyle I lead. There are many days of the week where I’m on drizzly walks, schlepping about with a pram, a rucksack and some food shopping bags all whilst attempting to balance a coffee in whatever hand is miraculously free. Deep down, I need waterproof coats with hoods and I need flat boots. And most of all, I need to not be inexorably drawn to colourful outerwear, fluffy fab...

BMW M3 Full Overview This comparison test between the BMW M3 sedan and Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG was originally published on April 1, 1997. This comparison is between—inarguably—the two most desirable compact sedans ever built. The limited-production BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG are each so fantastic, so fundamentally tremendous, that this test could degenerate into a love-fest of praise. They’re quick, handle brilliantly, brake instantly, and are built with the structural integrity of a beryllium molecule. We could almost put the critical blinders on, engage WordPerfect’s excellent built-in thesaurus, and let the superlatives fly. Still, though this test will draw out the subtleties and distinctions, it will lapse into a few gooey gushes. Forgive us, we’re human. Neith...
