Apple MacBook Air With M2 Chip Review: Lightweight Build and Supercharged Performance

Apple revealed a multitude of new hardware releases during its 33rd annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) last month, notably revamping the MacBook Air with its newly-powered M2 chip. The laptop, made popular by its slim design and versatile functionality, has been improved from front to back, marking one of the largest updates to the device since its original debut. The M2 chip, the latest generation of Apple silicon, is constructed using a second-generation 5-nanometer technology and boasts over 20 billion transistors. With that power, the chip is capable of supplying 50% more bandwidth than M1 and hosting up to 24GB of unified memory. Notably, M2 is able to provide up to 18% higher multithread performance over M1, thanks to a next-generation 8- or 10-core CPU and advancements in...

Nintendo acquires animation studio that’ll become ‘Nintendo Pictures’

Nintendo has acquired CG production company Dynamo Pictures, and will rename it to “Nintendo Pictures,” the company has announced. The new subsidiary will “focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP” and the “planning and production of visual content including CG animation.” The company’s IMDB page lists credits on dozens of titles, including motion capture work on Death Stranding and Persona 5, and post-production work on Metroid: Other M. The acquisition comes as Nintendo is gearing up for the most significant cinematic release in years; an animated movie based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise starring Chris Pratt. The film is currently scheduled to release in spring next year, almost thirty years after the last major cinematic adaptation: 1993’s live action Super Mar...

UK’s ambitious plan to overhaul online safety laws delayed by government chaos

For years, the UK government has been cooking up legislation to more tightly regulate online spaces. Provisions in the Online Safety Bill include mandatory age-checks on porn sites and jail time for tech execs who withhold data from investigators. Now, these ambitious and controversial plans have been delayed, as the Conservative government faces a leadership election after the resignation of Boris Johnson as party leader. The Online Safety Bill was due to be voted on by the House of Commons next week, but this vote has now been delayed until after parliament’s summer recess, according to reports from BBC News and other outlets. The delay is — in theory — temporary, but could prove fatal for the bill if the next UK prime minister doesn’t consider it a priority, or if the next culture minis...

Nikon Stops Production of SLR Cameras After 60 Years

After 60 years of producing some of the industry’s most respected single-lens reflex cameras, Nikon has finally decided to end its run. According to reports, the esteemed Japanese company is seeing increasing competition from smartphone cameras which have evolved significantly over the past decade and has now decided to shift its focus on the older SLR technology to more digital-focused products instead, especially mirrorless models that offer unique features not often supported by mobile devices. Founded in 1917, Nikon adopted its current name some three decades later and began producing its first SLR by 1959. By the late ’90s, the company started offering DSLRs as digital sensors became more mature. Last year alone, it sold more than 400,000 SLRs, although the development of new DSLR mod...

Celsius Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

Just a month after locking up some $12 billion USD in cryptocurrency due to “extreme market conditions,” Celsius has declared chapter 11 bankruptcy. In what they called a “difficult but necessary decision,” Celsius justified its halt on withdrawals citing that it would have led to even more chaos with the accelerated withdrawals, giving those who acted first a full payout while leaving other customers behind while it attempted to pull funds from illiquid or long-term assets. This Chapter 11 proceeding will allow for the company to stabilize and restructure the business as it looks to maximize value for its stakeholders. Alex Mashinsky, Co-Founder & CEO of Celsius commented, “This is the right decision for our community and company. We have a strong and experienced team in place to lead...
