Charlie Hunnam is set to portray murderer and body snatcher Ed Gein in the third season of Ryan Murphy’s Netflix anthology series, Monster.
The news was announced during the Los Angeles premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story — the second season following DAHMER. Hunnam’s role, Gein, was also known under the names the Butcher of Plainfield and the Plainfield Ghoul as he terrorized his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin between 1947 and 1957. He was found to be exhuming the corpses from the graveyards and creating keepsakes out of them, and he also confessed to killing two women but authorities believe he was responsible for other killings.
Prior to Hunnam’s portrayal of Gein, however, fans of the anthology series can stay tuned to The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The show, which premieres September 19, is based on the true story of the Menendez brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murder of their parents. The prosecution accused Lyle and Erik of killing their parents for their inheritance, however the brothers have always alleged that they committed the crime after experiencing a lifetime of physical, emotional and sexual abuse from their parents.
